We seem to have an ever growing number of players with "connection issues". Far be it from me to be able to accurately articulate all the complex variables involved (thats what skuzzy is for:)). At some point it does effect gameplay for the rest of us...and yet ALL of us occasionally have a fubar connection.
We have a variety of "report" functions...could we add one for "connection". Every time I log in it seems we have a few players...dont know if its always the same guys or not. But if a guy accumulated a 100+ connection "reports" in a tour it would give HT and crew (if they are interested) a starting place to examine the issue.
It's becoming more and more common for me to encounter a "warper" on almost every flight. Today on 3 hops in a row I was involved with multiple cons in a 1 on many and invariably my 1st "target" convientely went warpy 15 seconds into the fight. Given the reality that you need to knock down your 1st target before your engaged by the next two this is an issue. And of course your SA goes to hell since you dont really know where the guy is.
It's impossible for me to say with any certainty that an individual pilot (or squad) has a higher instance of this problem...but a reporting system would provide HTC with the raw data to determine the nature of the problem and provide technical help to those constantly afflicted...which would greatly increase the enjoyment of the vast majority who seem able to avoid this problem 99.8% of the time.

Lately I've been seeing a whole lot more 'sky skippers' that seem to bounce around quite a bit.
The weird thing is that it's never any green ones.
Maybe it's a game code or server issue.
-
whole lota stutters after the last update and patch.
was the smoothing code tweaked any?
-
I have notice this also. It seams to deterioted over the past month. Last night i couldn't take the warping for them same three guys over and over i just logged off. I pm'ed more than once to inform them that they need to re log but got no reply.
Warps are something we all deal with but if your connection is that bad you must resolve the issue for the health of the main environment.

Me to, and just hauling out the accusations isnt fair and might not be correct. But I do think its reached a point where its affecting game play alot. When something reaches a point that its a common ongoing almost unrelenting topic on range, ch4 and even 200 then I think its prudent to at least try and offer meaningful suggestions. If the collected data shows a true random distribution then its simply life on the net. If we see clusters then HTC might be able to isolate anything from a specific service provider or hardware comonent or driver combination...or might find other factors involved.

agreed lots more warps and, stuff like guys on your 6 warping like mad while still getting hits on you, and your not able to pfreform any evasive manouvers
-
How ya gonna report when all you see on the icon is "P51" or "spit" ?
You kinda need a name to report, and that's not usually available on warpers. If you kill 'em you get the name, but most times their "warps" allow them to avoid death, so you don't get the name in the buffer to use in the report.
-
Film it and find out in film viewer.

When their dead...

No question that can be an issue. you can film it and take a quick peek after the sortie...also a majority of guys are identified...many times just by asking. I'm viewing this as a "technical issue"....
If a subscriber reaches a point where he hits the "threshhold" then maybe he gets a request for info on ISP, build, OS, drivers etc...over a few tours you'd get enough info to see the statistical distribution of the probelm with enough accuracy to gauge the scope and possible source of the "problem" IMO....

While I agree that this is a serious issue, this really puts a lot of work and responsibility on a very small software shop.
-
If it's not linked to the TIME you witness it, it's going to be abused 100% I promise you.
If you have to film it, quit, go to the film viewer, look up a name, what's to say you can't forget about it and report it the next day?
Or to just report people you dislike? This has happened several times with the existing report tools and certain individuals, and certain squadrons.
It's not a good system, IMO.

There is zero work (or almost zero) involved in collecting data. Can it be abused....sure. However the underlying reality is the issue is real and growing IMO...
Once you have some data then you can evaluate the nature & scope of the problem. All i'm doing is suggesting a way to have the community collect the data...if its not usable to do abuse etc then so be it....

Select the player concerned by tagging his ac then hit the report connection function. Your FE has all the data the server needs to identify the player once you have told your FE which player you are on about.

As others have mentioned, it usually seems to be the red guys that warp - very rarely the green ones.
Also, and this is just my observation, it seems like they start warping when you come into gun range or have them in your sights - not when you're 3k out or so . . .
-
Tilt, that's one way of doing it.
Humble: The point of collecting data is to act upon it. In THAT regard, it will be abused to bring on unwarranted action by HTC when they review it and see, say, 100+ reports on "player x" when all 100 were from 2 large MA squads with a vendetta

But that is true for the current "reports" that we have ... it's HTC job to separate the wheat from the chaff. I would not dismiss this idea based on what "might" happen.
Currently I am seeing slide shows even in small furballs in the MW arena ... I was not experiencing any of that prior to this latest upgrade.

That's because you're usually paying better attention to the red guys. I've seen plenty of green ones warp too.
Generally speaking I tell them they might want to relog, and, generally speaking, most people will do so.

Last week ish on ch200 I saw some people askin' a player who's name I didn't know to relog as they were warpy. Over an hour I prob. saw said player told they were warping on 1/2 a dozen diff. occasions.
I upped a field about to get hoarded by the Bish. (as always) and lo' and behold there is said player 3k from me warping all over the place. (it was just the two of us and they were constantly zig zagin' all over the place)
I told them over range they were warping, and typed it out on country incase they upped from a diff. field.
THEIR (the warpers) reply was that I was a cheating spy for the Bish (snicker) and the only reason I would care if they are warping was to help the bad guys shoot them down. (and on and on and on. was quite the rant)
Geeez... try to help somebody.

It frustrating for sure..
One night I was in an osti shooting at an A-20. He appeared to pass by without firing a single shot. I was tracking him (missing the whole time, but doing my best) only to watch him pass, appear to go underground, pop back up above ground me looking at the tail of the plane. Then and only then, his shots hit me and I was in the tower.
My squadie had the same thing happen.
There should be a limit on just how much lag you can have and not be kicked off.

Well, there's always one of them :)

ive been getting some really bad screen freezes while fighting...and discoed when im fighting near a CV
-
Bah, this is the current state of the MA. Once every 2 or 3 shorties you find one that conveniently warps when you are behind him but flies nice and smooth when he gets behind you. Sometimes, you fly by them and a few seconds latter you hear the pings and you blow up.
I wish it could be fixed but there is not match that can be done. UDP is unreliable, but it allows for games like this to be made (easier and cheaper)
-
i dont lose udp when near a CV i get the white screen of death =/

Every year, about this time, I have to make this post.
Folks, before going off the deep end here, and assuming this has something to do with the patch, also consider this. Every year, for as long as I can remember, the Internet gets stupid around this time. School just started. Never fails.
There are two distinct times of the year when the Internet shifts into stupid mode.
1) Just as school starts here in the U.S.
2) Just after school lets out in the U.S.
You can set a watch to it. It is one of the more reliable indicators of what to expect from the Internet. Both periods usually peak about 3 to 4 days after the starting incident, then they slowly trail off and the Internet gets back to normal within a couple of weeks.
We happen to hit the peak time for 'Internet stupid' with this patch. Not saying there may not be an issue with the patch, but right now it is virtually impossible to tell the difference between 'Internet stupid' and the patch.

been saying that all along, but i am getting older kids getting smarter is that me?

i totally agree, I have played for several years and the Summer time allways gets new users. Excellent for earnings for the bottom line. Children do not reallize, not getting into parental controls kids will dissapear, Winter comes, hmm a few straglers, but for the most part all the people been true still play that is when it is clean. alot of people know if i host i even so sick and tired of listen to these kids

I am on a dialup in Oman , there are only 2 providers here , omantel and narwas they use edge .Now Omantel does offer broadband , but not where i am , and Narwas's egde doesnt reach here either so im stuck with an unreliable dial up , so yes i am probably one of the guys you see warping .
I know this can be a pain in the backside , take it from me it is for me also , but short of not playing what else is there ????
-
I'm warping, go ahead and report me... but where I'm currently at my only internet option is satellite, and it aint no joy on my end when it starts. Everything is fine untill midway through some flight I'll lose UDP and as soon as I die or land I'll log.
-
Hmmm by reading the title I thought this thread is about abuse of the ".report" command by evil squads... :D

I usually have a solid connection, but for the past week I get random disco's about 3 times a night. Im on a wireless network, but my card is reading at a good/excellent connection.

Wireless' idea of "excellent" and AH's are two different things.
Problem comes mostly from variance in delay. AH adapts well to even very slow connections, but gets unhappy when pings shoot way above where they were before. Wireless does this routinely, just from variation in signal quality. They don't mean a thing when you're downloading web pages, but they turn into warps and disconnects when you play AH. Just for yucks, when you' in game check out your net status now and again. You might be surprised at the spikes.
Wired is the way to go.
-
not having problems at all with variance... i get a flicker every now and then.. otherwise its showing as flat in net variance. log in to a ping going between 42 and 65 at arena select.. but you're right.. im gonna wire it up soon anyway.. doing ICS with my xbox 360 just isnt cutting it
