This is question for the other women pilots, not a question for the guys...
Hi,
I just got a forum private message from one of the H2H guys asking me a question I often get from guys new to Aces High.
I always laugh when I am asked this and actually feel a little flattered.
Their question is... "Are you a man or a woman?"
I always answer truthfully. Sometimes the guy is a real creep and sometimes they are just surprised a woman would actually be here flying and shootin down guys. LOL
How have you handled this in the past?
Any funny stories?

I haven't met any creeps at all, and been playing a few years.:)

Awe, come on. You know that ain't true 64. You should go back & delete that before the time limit.

Hi TxMom,
Most of my AH experience to date has been in H2H... nuff said.
I am just now starting to fly in the MA and am a paying subscriber.
There are some very cool people who fly H2H but also the unknowns who wander in off the streets and have no clue about manners.
You would not believe some of the things some of those new guys say.
That is one of the main reasons I started hosting an H2H arena... so that I had the ability to eject the ill-mannered ones.

Thank you very much 64, I appreciate you having deleted that.

your welcome.
-
Yes, thanks 64kills, for deleting that.
I appreciate a well intentioned heads-up but naming names in the forum is not a good thing to do. I have taken to always running the recorder in my arena.
Any direct issues with anyone in particular will be deal with by HTC following their receipt of a film in the event of a real problem. :aok
99.9% of the guys are very respectful... a few are not and they know who they are.

Here is a little something for the guys who have a hard time with women flying combat:
Chick Fighter Pilot Assn (CFPA) (http://www.fighterchicks.com/)
Their association statement:
"We are a small group and we recognize that, but the point of the CFPA is not to set ourselves apart. We are, first and foremost, Fighter Pilots. That's our priority."
These women do it for a living! Bravo!
I would love to get some of them into flying Aces High! ;)

Yeah, that's probably another one you'd want to go back & delete before the time limit 64.

not that it has too much to do with this thread, but do you know that the Air Force Thunderbirds have 2 female pilots? the first one, Capt. Nicole Malachowski also got her start in CAP. she was also the first ever female fighter pilot appointed to a military show team. we were actually able to get one of our female cadets from our CAP squadron a 1-1 interview with her.......VERY cool.....
I would love to get some of them into flying Aces High! ;)

Hi 1ltcap! Nice to meet you John
I was aware that Capt. Nicole Malachowski is a BA member and got her start in CAP but I didn't know there were two of women flying in the Angels.
It's ironic but I was also a member of CAP many moons ago, when I was still in middle school (I was an Air Force brat), but unfortunately they didn't have a plane to fly of all things so I dropped out after a short time.

Actually, it's freakin' embarassing watching the "men" on AH fall all over the women. The overt flirting makes me laugh out loud. Many's the time my squad and I were listening to some poor AH pilot sweet talking the local woman on range.....

actually it's the Thunderbirds........Capt. Malachowski is Thunderbird 3, and Maj. Samantha Weeks, is Thunderbird 6......she's also the opposing solo, which i think is one of the harder positions to fly.
You used to be in CAP?? dam!!! re-join!!!:D you've no idea the fun you're missing......i'm mission qualified scanner, and in about 3 weeks will be qualified observer.....working next on mission transport pilot..it's just been taking awhile, because i keep getting distracted by making sure the kids are learning/having fun.....htese cadets are the only kids i have...so i have 17 kids, once a week for about 2 hours. i've had em flying r/c models at our club, working on model rockets now, and teaching em about homeland security. soooo much to do.....and soooooo fun.....

Hello bj229r,
I have to agree with Shrew on this one. Computer games are, to me, uninteresting and boring. It is beyond me what guys see in them. ohh well
Flight Simulation I don't consider a game. Combat Flight Simulation with real people is way beyond any "computer game".

Tnx for correcting me ... yes BlueBirds! ohh... opps... ThunderAngels lol
uhhhh Thunderbirds! thats it!
Sadly... I am a lil'bit dyslexic on some things. Please forgive me.
I would watch the guys fly with those radio control airplanes when I was young. It was fascinating to watch but I was too shy to ask them to teach me to do it and was afraid I would break it anyway. So I just watched.
On CAP, the AFB hosting the CAP I joined had previously changed missions from Bomber Training to Security Training... some sort of Cripto (sp?) stuff... all very hush hush. Therefore, there was a lack of pilots to support CAP and thus is was just a shell of its former self. too bad... I really wanted to fly.
Interestingly, back in the day... B-24 and B-25 crews were trained there.
That’s great on mentoring the kids!!! I am sure they appreciate it very much. Do you have any girls in your CAP squadron? If so, you may be mentoring a future CFP (ChickFighterPilot).
As I mentioned before, I am an Air Force Brat... Dad was a 30-year man so all us kids grew up with av-gas/jp-3 in our blood. I have a niece who has served in Iraq and a brother who has gone TDY to Saudi many times. Hi Talon!

All I want to do is fly and have a good time and learn ACM.
Most guys, 99.9%, are very respectful! Thanks for speaking up...
It's that 0.1% that give guys a bad name and that isn't fair to the other 99.9%.
If 99.9% group ChkSix the 0.1% group about this when it happens, it will make the AH Skies a lot more friendly. All I can basically do is ignore it and hope it will stop.

hehehe...funny thing is.....i fly the r/c models too!!! i have 2 t-34's, a p51D, an extra 300, and a few others.....along wiht a helicopter. ya shouldn't have been shy about asking though....most people in the r/c hobby actually long for new people to teach, and we ALL break em sooner or later.....i've had i think over a dozen crashes in the 6 years i've been flying models....some have more than that
yes, we have..or had 3 female cadets...one who is also an air force brat.....she's the one i mentioned that we got an interview with Thunderbird 3.....and it was amazing the change it made in her.......could see and hear it. her dad was re-assigned to somewhere in the mid-west, so we lost her. we did however make her promise to come back and show off a bit when she gets to fly the fun fast stuff!oo yea...she likes harleys and mustangs too.....kinda screams fighter pilot, huh?:D we have another female, who it seems is going to head to the coast guard....she REALLYn want's to fly helicopters....so right now i'm working with a friend of mine that owns a helicopter flight school trying to get him to donate some time in a heli to/for her. the only other female cadet is a ground pounder.....:D
i don't know how old you are...but if you've got a pilots lisence, you can fly for cap.....you'd just have to take your check ride all over again with a CAP examiner.....and any missions you fly are FREE flight time:D

"Don't give up on your dreams or let others tell you what you can or can't do," she said. "The only limits you have are the ones you impose." -Captain Jessica Rhyne, 23nd Fighter Squadron, USAF
CheckSix,
TIGERESS
Following from http://userpages.aug.com/captbarb/fighters.html
Female fighter pilots take on challenges full throttle.
by Staff Sgt. Elaine Aviles, 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs
SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany (AFPN) -- Female fighter pilots are a special breed. They are willing to crack into a male-dominated field, take a $30 million aircraft, fly at mind-numbing speeds and head straight into the face of danger, all the while knowing they may not be coming back.
But most will say they are happy to do just that, because they get to fly.
"And we get paid for it," said Capt. Jessica Rhyne, 23nd Fighter Squadron here. "I feel incredibly lucky."
Rhyne is an F-16CJ Fighting Falcon pilot. Her job is suppression of enemy air defenses. Each time she flies a SEAD mission, she puts her life and her aircraft on the line to launch high-speed anti-radiation missiles on target. She travels to the hot spots of the world, where she relies partly on her state-of-the-art equipment and partly on her wits to survive.
Just 10 years ago, her job was not open to women. Although women have been entering pilot training since 1976, before 1993, government officials did not believe women had the "right stuff" for combat.
Rhyne always believed she did. Her dream to become a fighter pilot, then an astronaut, crystallized after a trip to the Kennedy Space Center when she was 12. However, because of the "no women in combat" law, her dream seemed unattainable. But, she remained determined.
"I entered the Air Force Academy and tried to convince my congressman to give women a chance," said Rhyne. "He told me that families were not ready to see their sisters and wives coming home in body bags."
Rhyne was not buying it. Then, in 1993, the secretary of defense permitted women to enter fighter pilot training.
Rhyne was accepted and has never looked back. She has been a pilot for more than nine years, has accumulated more than 800 hours of flight time and two Operation Northern Watch combat missions.
But she is the exception rather than the rule. Out of more than 12,000 Air Force pilots, only about 460 are women. Female fighter pilots are even rarer, with 46 Air Force-wide, according to the Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. Spangdahlem AB currently has three female fighter pilots, Rhyne; 1st Lt. Leigh Noel, 22nd Fighter Squadron; and Capt. Michelle Vestal, an A-10 Thunderbolt II pilot from the 81st Fighter Squadron.
"Thanks to women like Captain Rhyne, I was able to become a fighter pilot without a second thought," said Noel.
Noel is the newest female pilot here. After joining the Air Force as an acquisition officer, she decided to tackle the challenge of pilot training.
She has been combat mission ready for two weeks, having just wrapped up more than two years of training, which started with a year of generalized pilot training, and culminated with training in an aircraft "specialty." Other classes she took ran the gamut from water survival to posing as a prisoner in a POW camp.
Male or female, fighter pilot training is not for the faint of heart.
"The training is tough," said Noel. "If you're ultra-sensitive, you're in the wrong profession."
"Women fighter pilots are tough," she said. "You have to be. You have to be willing to kill people and be ready to die."
With initial training complete, Noel gets as many flight hours as she can. She also spends a lot of time studying. Fighter pilots have to know about every piece of equipment on their aircraft, plus understand the nature of intelligence threats and study mission plans.
Eventually, pilots work their way up the ranks, progressing from flight lead to instructor-pilot, and then, for some, evaluator.
Right now, however, fighter pilots are focusing on current military operations. Many pilots from the 22nd and 23rd FS are already deployed supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Aware they may be next, Rhyne and Noel train constantly. They recently flew a training mission together, along with 1st Lt. Corinne Gilliam, a 23rd FS female intelligence officer.
The officers were playing out an Operation Iraqi Freedom scenario. Gilliam rode along in the two-seater trainer to get a first-hand look at the threats she briefs pilots about.
"I never flew with other women before," Rhyne said. "It's definitely an indicator of the changing face of the Air Force."
The captain said she hopes the trend continues.
"I think women should go for it," she said. "Being a fighter pilot is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference."
Although her girlhood dream of becoming an astronaut is limited by her eyesight, Rhyne appears satisfied with her life's path.
"Don't give up on your dreams or let others tell you what you can or can't do," she said. "The only limits you have are the ones you impose."

Tigress, i hope you realize i was joking? betty flies on our channel, and yeti69 is a female in out squad. she flies with TSM. Also i'm in the military, USAR. The strangest thing i ever saw was a female in a flight suit, dont know what she flew, was walking to the latrine. We started taking incoming mortar fire, so we all crouched and ran for a bunker. She was about 20 feet from me, a mortar hit about 30 meters from us, kickin up all kindas stuff.............she turned looked and kept right on for the latrine! I think she broke stride once during the impact, that was about it. So i have no issue with women.

A well kept secret of the Allies during WWII was... almost one thousand women flew combat missions in WWII against the Axis.
They had their share of Fighter Aces among them.
Also, some of the bravest women combat pilots were found with the all-female 588th Night Bomber Air Regiment, known as the “Night Witches.” Despite being equipped with slow, obsolete PO-2 biplanes, during the course of the War, they conducted an incredible 24,000 missions behind enemy lines, and delivered 23,000 tons of bombs from their fragile wood-and-fabric aircraft. Though their casualty rate was high, so was their recognition by a grateful nation. A total of 30 citations for “Hero of the Soviet Union”, Russia’s highest honor (The USSR's equivalent of the USA's Medal of Honor), were given to women in the Soviet Air Force, 23 of which were earned by the 588th “Night Witches.”
An image of Night Witches' Polikarpov Po-2/U-2 Aircraft (http://pratt.edu/~rsilva/witches.htm)
Most of their Po-2s were unarmed except for their ordnance, but some carried a 7.62mm machine gun on a swivel-mount in the observer's position in the rear.
BTW, the Po-2 was a WWII stealth bomber... The Po-2 would pass often undetected by the night fighters' radar, because of the mildly radar absorbing nature of the canvas surfaces, and the fact that mostly they flew near the ground. German planes equipped with infrared seekers would not see the little heat generated by the small, 110 horsepower engine.
Searchlights, however, were another story. The Germans at Stalingrad developed what the Russians called a "flak circus". They would bring out the flak guns that had been hidden during the day, and lay them in concentric circles around probable targets, and the same with the searchlights. Po-2s crossing the perimeter in pairs in the straight line flight path typical of untrained but determined Russian flyers were usually ripped to pieces by the Flak 37 guns. The 588th, however, developed another tactic. They flew in formations of three. Two would go in first, attract the attention of the searchlights, and when all of them pointed to them in the sky, separate suddenly in opposite directions and maneuver wildly to try to shake them off. The German searchlight operators would follow them, while the third bomber who was farther back snuck in through the darkened path made by her 2 comrades and hit the target unopposed. She would then get out, rejoin with the other two, and they would switch places until all three had delivered their payloads. It took nerves of steel to be a decoy and willingly attract enemy fire, but as Nadya Popova said: "It worked."
They had served so exemplarily throughout the whole war that they participated in the final onslauqht on Berlin.
I, for one, would like to have such a stealth bomber in the MA with no little red dots following them around on the enemies radar! ;)
From what I have read, the 109s and 190s stall speed was faster than the Po-2's top speed, which made shooting down the agile Po-2 very difficult.
Question: Now, why was the role of women pilots kept such a secret during the war? hahahahahaha...
Answer: Some men's egos can't handle being bested, or defended, by a woman...
A real man can give credit where credit is due.

His name is BEARING3 and he has been PNG'ED from the BBS at least three times coming in with shades accounts so he can harrass people. I am not the only one. The h2h pilots know him well. I feel sorry for him.
Mentalguy clued me in on him initially and I was also warned about him by Denholm. I finally give him persona non grata status on my server.
Bearing, please knock it off... ok?

Hi Mark,
Thank you for being supportive... it helps.
Yes I have, many times... sigh.
He wants h2h to return and he is taking out his fustration on everyone he can focus on here. I am not the only one. But because I am a woman, he gets particularily nasty with me.
This is exactly the reason HTC accounts need to be locked directly to BBS accounts. It validates who a person is in real life and provides real incentive to behave in the forums.
In the MA, people also act out... usually a passing temper issue but they are held accountable for their actions if HTC received actionable information such as a screen shot or film and can and do sever their access to AH.
With the BBS, there is no accountability at all. People who enjoy causing trouble simple get around the system and keep creating new BBS accounts after HTC bans them. Prehaps a ban of the IP or IP group might work.
Prehaps HTC contacting the offender's ISP and their local law enforcement might work.
This is never going to end till HTC takes action to ensure accountability for behavior of repeat trouble makers on the BBS.
I understand than HTC wants new accounts and thus requires no real life authentication of new user's personally identifying information for the two week free access to the MA.
Thus free access to the BBS helps cement a budding AH addiction :) but...
There can be a free access forum section or a seperate forum and the real forum unaccessable completely unless a person has a real subscription.
HTC ended h2h because of various abuses by people without accountability.
Now h2h trouble makers are focusing on the forums.
If HTC doesn't do something that works... I, in the end, will be left with no recourse but to withdraw from the BBS entirely so he can't find me.
And that is exactly what he wants.

i speak from experience when i say this....there r idiots in here, and ALOT of them, but there are also ALOT of really cool peeps in here also. you cant let one bad egg run you off here. if it is the case that he gives u a harder time cuz u are a female then that means he is prolly some middle age guy livin in his moms basement that hasnt had contact with a female body part since birth and doesnt know how to act toward them. i put up with ALOT of crap on this game in the almost 3 years of flyin and i used to b quiet and not say much but i have learned that you have to bite back. you cant take no crap from these idiots. i will admit that i dont do screen shots or recordings UNLESS they are really really makin me mad or doin somethin ignorant, then i will. you will notice that alot of the AH community in any of the MA's have your back if someone starts in. so dont leave the BBS over this moron. <>
