Since it looks like my new found passion for quality cigars is going ot be with me for a while I've decided to make my won Humidor.
I have a buddy of mine who is a hardwod floring installer and gives me his scrap which is what I am going ot makew the box itself out of (yes I know its gonna weigh a ton)
I figure on lining it with the spanish cedar from old cigar boxes which I can get from my local Shop Rite (which now sells imported cigars)
Question is. How do I go about seperating the paper from the Cedar?
Any ideas that wont warp the wood?
BTW
My current favorites are the "Bolivar Robusto Crystal"
And the Partagas Black label
Having fun trying them all.
When I buy I usually get 1 of what I know I like. and two I've never tried before
Decided Onyx is WAY overrated

Use a power planner.

I didn't know won needed to be kept climate controlled.
-
I have a custom made humidor.... Made from hardwood, could easily hold 1000 large cigars...top "shelf" is actually a removeable humidor itself...the rest of the cigars go into shelves in the lower section...
Anyway - it's all lined with spanish cedar. Rather than try to salvage the thin cheap pieces, just buy what you need. It's not that expensive and it will be thick enough to shape.

Thats the easy way.
Besides I've been having a hankering to tinker with something.
Plus the wood is free
And I may be able ot get hold of some exotic woods as well for future projects should this turn out well
such as
Brazilian Cherry
Australian Cypress
Jarrah
Padauk
Teak
etc
As well as your standard Oaks Cherrys and Walnuts
And it sure beats spending a couple hundred dollars on a real quality Humador
When I can build one for less then $50
If this one turns out well Im going to make another one with the top being a Chessboard with a Drawer for the peices underneith

you need good quality cedar or cypress for it's moisture retention properties but it can't be western red cedar. the better humidors are fabricated from middle eastern or mediterranian cedars IIRC. I'll ask my dad for you tomorrow and post his suggestions.

Given the quality of your spelling, punctuation and word choice here, I'm beginning to wonder just what kind of cigars you have been smoking.......
:huh

I've always been horrid at spelling
I'd be the very first to admit that.
But probably about 2/3s of my errors here in all areas. Have more to do with typing too fast and not double checking what I've typed before I put it up.
The following is a classic example of exactly that
