Title: Does anyone here make custom decals for model kits?
Post by: Treize69 on September 02, 2007, 07:14:53 PM
I'm trying to do a 1/48 scale model of a P-51B that noone does markings for, does anyone here make custom decals? Theres programs that automatically size the markings to the proper scale based on measurements and you then print them onto blank decal sheets, but I don't have access to a printer, so I don't have the programs.

I'm doing it in invasion stripes, the way it would have looked on its last mission, but I have all the markings I need besides the WD-D and the s/n (42-106575).

Can anyone help me, or point me to a third party who can? All I need are the codes and serial number, the plane didn't have any noseart or name on it. Just 8 kill marks, and I have those from another kit.

Yo Treize
I feel your pane when it comes to the decal situationSupercale makes a couple of decal sets that include US serial numbers and Lettering. They have them for USN and USAAF that I saw.Its just a matter of makeing sure they are the correct size and type. They can be found at most hobby stores.I found these at Squadron.com.Check it out.

It appears the letter are out of stock at the moment. If your in no hurry they will prolly restock them soon.Or ya can try one of the other on-line hobby shops.Im lucky I have a Hobby shop near me that deals nation wide.Usualy I can walk in and get most of this stuff.the place is called Stevens International.they have a web page as well.

Go to a garage sale and buy a printer.  I see several every weekend.
I just bought a brand new HP 3845 for $5.  I'd say you'l find a used printer in at least 1 out of 10 garage sales.

Nuke did it for the model of Quitch.

Looks great too; extremely well done nose art.
