Workers in the US are still more productive per person than any
others in the world
Meanwhile, the US figure is boosted by Americans working more
hours per year than workers in most developed countries.
Looks like we work to much now...
Using a different measure of value added per hour worked,
Norway comes out on top, followed by the US and then France.
Must be some viking kind of measurement, to bad they don't explain what the difference is....

Basic math at work (just an example)
US worker produce 1 unit per hour and work 50 hour per week productivity is 50
Norvegian/ugly surrender cheese eater monkey(frog) produce 1.4 unit per hour and work 35 hour per week productivity total is 49 (and so topped by the US worker).
got it ?
ps : the productivity per person is not time dependant.

you still lose.

Time spent on vacation/living/enjoying/relaxing and beeing with the family is alot more important to us than to work as many hours as possible :)
Life should not be about work but everyone is entitled to disagree.

Nilsen,
That's a great philosophy, but a couple years ago when the US was farther down the list, you said "haha you lazy Americans".
I know you're just kidding (mostly anyhow) but it's weird that no matter how the US places on studies like that, Americans are either fat dumb and lazy, or maniacal over-achievers who don't know how to really live. With everyone giving us crap over every stupid little thing, why does anyone wonder why some of us snapped and started shooting back?

This is just using the GDP per capita figure. Not really indicative of worker productivity.

Probably GDP per capita over hours worked. It's not rocket science you know.

"measure of value added per hour worked'
read the link.

You're boring number guy :

Instead of being a not so clever oneliner use your brain and read the document.
or do like the BBC journalist plagiarize the press release http://www.ilo.org/global/About_the_ILO/Media_and_public_information/Press_releases/lang--en/WCMS_083976/index.htm

So which is it? Is America number 1 and Ireland second or is it bloody Norway again?
Whatever the measurement, France is up there in both measurements. Not bad for a country that works a 35 hour week and takes the entire month of August off on holiday. You must be doing something right eh Straffo?
I'm not surprised Ireland is number 2 to America, (just). We swallowed whole the America system and it works great. Long hours, lowish taxes. We could easily be the 51st state. But we just take more holidays than you Americans. We like our time off.
-
The French types that I know work 60 hours a week and then some at weekends. Same for the Belgians and a fair few Brits. How manange to have a family I don't know.
I've an opportunity to move to Brussels and work in that environment, and I'm not sure I want to...

lolz, using the GDP means that more massive the federal deficit....magically the more productive the citizens appear.
If the Canadian government had an annual deficit of eleventy bajillion dollars, using the GDP...Canadian citizens would be the most productive people in the universe.

I think you have me confused with someone else.
We have however had this discussion before. I think it was this spring and the outcome was about the same. USA on overall productivity top and Norway on productivity per hour. Kinda does not make sense calling Americans lazy if they work the most hours. :)
-
we have too many mexicans who work long hours but get nothing done.

So, is there an option to get another month of vacation each year and be considered lazy again?
-
I get more than a months vacation every year and only work 4 days a week every other week.

^ exactly. Don't think I'd want to be the most productive, if it meant working 40 hour weeks (minimum) plus unpaid overtime, and 2 weeks vacation allowance. Screw that.
-
beetle... I think that it is illegal to have unpaid overtime here... it even has to be posted at every job site.
