Title: Setup for Aug 7th and the following week: Der Grosse Schlag
Post by: Panzzer on September 05, 2007, 04:10:09 AM
It's based on "Der Grosse Schlag" scenario rules (http://ahevents.org/images/stories/scenarios_images/200710_derGrosseSchlag/rules.html), with changed radar settings (for playability purposes) and planes will also be available at all fields - except for 163 and 262.

Der Grosse Schlag - November 1944 - The next Aces High Scenario in October 2007

Allies (Rooks):

and Me-262, Me-163 (only at A29, A31, A46, A54)

Arena Settings:
Contrary to the scenario design, planes are enabled at all fields except for the 163 and the 262, and radar is enabled to find the fights.

All ack at 1.0

History:
During September and October 1944 the armies on the eastern and western fronts advancing on Germany have ground to a halt.  Both fronts had seen huge gains in territory in the last months.  This success had led to the outstripping of supply lines so the operational tempo slowed on the ground.  This reduction in ground operations allowed the Luftwaffe to reduce it’s own operations to the bare minimum, except for sorties in defense of Germany proper.

The German aircraft industry had reorganized and in September produced 3,821 new combat aircraft.  Four out of five of these aircraft were Messerschmitt 109s and Focke-Wulf 190s.  This increase in production produced an excess of aircraft in the frontline units.  All 15 Gruppen deployed in France had suffered heavy losses. They were completely re-equipped with the influx of new production aircraft.  There was also a simultaneous expansion of the single-engined day fighter Gruppen from 1900 aircraft to 3000 by the middle of November.  Each day fighter Gruppe in the west expanded from three to four Stafflen, each with 10 to 16 aircraft.  This recovery and increase in fighters was to come as a surprise to the Allies.

The Gruppen on the western front fell back across the Rhine to bases in Germany.  Also several units where pulled back from the Eastern front and the Balkans into the Reich.   These units were reequipped with the new production aircraft and brought back to strength with replacement pilots who had been given specialist training in attacking bombers.  However the combat of the past year had severely depleted the pool of experienced leaders.  Only a few of the best leaders are left after the hectic combat of the winter of 44 and the slaughter over France after the invasion.  These were a valuable asset not to be risked lightly.

Generalleutnant Adolf Galland was thus presented with a force reinvigorated and ready to strike a decisive blow against the allied bombing offensive.  Operation Der Grosse Schlag (The Great Blow) is about to commence.

Thanks to Fencer and the CM's for all the hard work on planning this one.

wow!  How interesting!

No p47N though?  I have not flown it yet.  Is it not the right time frame for this?

I would love to see it included if possible.  Sounds like the perfect setup for it.

Can't wait for the 262.

I'm surprised there are no 110s in these setups.

Thank You Panzzer,
I was hoping for this setup........you are using the same Map design ( rhine Terrain ) as well? I assume....

the Scenario does not have P47N models or any 110's in it......

this will really help all the scenario registyrants I would think/hope and might even show a raise in AvsA numbers possibly.......

TC I had a hard time deciphering your post.  Do you mean that it will positive not to have those two planes?  If so that is fine.  Just wondering what the negative is.  I could care less about the 110 of course.  I guess for buff interception it could be useful but is that something it was used for in 1944?

Was the P47N used in this theatre and was it used as a buff escort?

THe historical rosters are available thru various web sites. I'm flying with the 78th and the website devoted to the group shows P47-D25's as well as -40's. I saw no N's on the roster. Browsing thru I did see alot of P-51K's...

While the 110G was certainly in service in 1944, it isn't featured in the scenario, and Panzzer is trying to give the scenario guys the chance to practice with what they'll be flying there.

The 47N never saw service in the ETO; it was strictly a PTO plane, and one that appeared quite late at that.  However, we've occasionally used it in the AvA as a substitute for the 47M, which did appear in the hands of the 56th Fighter Group during the last few months of the war in Europe.

why water down an AvA setup because of what's going on the SEA?

No 110's, no P47N's, but I'm sure they'll be in the next Rhine setup after this one.

TC, yep, Rhine terrain, similar setup as in the scenario.

Storch, I don't see it as watering down, more along the lines of "let's try something different for a change", hoping to attract some more dedicated players to the AvA. I know you'll miss your 110G, but you could try something else for a change. ;)

The LW did not use the 110 in the intercepts of November 1944 that the scenario is depicting.

Now, I dropped in here for the following..

Thanks AvA team for setting this up for the SEA guys.  I appreciate the effort and the chance to use your arena to practice.

I trust all the Allied fliers of DGS will respect your arena's rules both written and unwritten.  I have little hope for the Luftwaffe, after all they are the bad guys. :lol

Cheers.

The setup is now done, go ahead, populate the arena and enjoy!

As usual, if there are any problems, please report them here.

Oh, I forgot to add that there's a perk cost in the hangar for 163 and 262 for some reason, but they are free anyway - I just tried crashing a 163 and didn't lose any points, and the planes are available even with no perk points. So never mind what it says in the hangar about the cost...

They're available at every field. I thought it to be better in the AvA that way instead of having to fly 2-3 sectors to the front line.

Too bad we couldnt have an air start for the bombers.  That would increase the number of targets for the 163 and the 262s.

Would it be possible to turn on radar? I know it changes the scenario settings, but its a lot tougher to find the bad guys in the free form AvA than it will be in the scenario, with its goals and higher numbers.

I've popped in a couple times, but left when I called "where are you guys flying" and didnt  get answers. 'Course, that may just be because they're hiding from ME on purpose, like all the neighborhood kids did when i was young....

NM..

Radar settings had gotten mixed up somehow, I redid them now so it should be as I meant it to be... Sorry about that.

I played in there a bit this week but the lemmings were on the axis side forcing me to fly easy mode.  it got old fast so I stayed out for the latter part.  you should run it again but give the lemmings their spitfires so they stay out of our hair.
