Title: Guitar Online?
Post by: FiLtH on September 05, 2007, 08:25:50 AM
Recently my love of playing guitar has come back. Ive always played by ear though and I cant read music.  Often the tabs I find dont sound right to me. That and they are a pain to sit down and try to figure out. Most of the songs I know I play close..but not exactly right. Im at a point where I want to learn them 100%.

Ive looked on youtube and have found some good lesson type stuff. Is there a play online where I can find a good place to learn from?

Since playing again Ive realized Im really lazy with my pinky finger.Im doing scales to make sure I get it working like it should.

Hey, Filth.  Try going to http://www.jamorama.com .  It's how I got started, and it's a pretty good program.  It's not free, but not terribly expensive either.  I'm only part way through the second of three sections.  You can hear me accompanying myself to some songs I wrote at http://www.myspace.com/richowen61 .  I've been playing for around a year and a half.

There's no substitute for a good guitar teacher, Filth.

I had one a couple of years ago, it was devastating that he had move his business away from where I live.

Find a teacher who shares your interest and your playing will improve immensely. Go and get yourself some books and start writing your own songs.

Flick through your books, pick a key and start playing.

I try to find some really obscure minor scales and start there.

When you write your own stuff your command of music will increase strongly. You can't 'auto pilot' through writing new stuff.

What guitar are you playing at the moment?

try http://www.ultimate-guitar.com

They have wonderful tabs for just about any song.  You can search by either song or artist.  They also have instruction videos that break down some neat stuff and is easy to follow.

What is your style of playing?  I'll play just about everything from Lola by The Kinks, to some Slipknot.  Lately I've been jamming to 3 Doors down.  Mostly it's standard tuning and the tabs are easily broken down.  They also have chords for the songs.

If ya want, PM me your email address and I will send you some stuff.

Congrats on getting back into it.

I use ultimate guitar and 911tabs.com .  911 tabs.com is a link website, containing links to all the different tabs on other websites.

Agreed.  The Powertab program will play a midi back to you so you can catch the timing as well as the notes.  While its no substitute for playing over the actual recording, its definately a leg up over written out tabs.

Thanks!

BTW I try to play anything from 70s rock into the 90s. Metallica is a favorite. As is ACDC.  I got a Schecter. Love it.
