Hello Aces High folks, I am the CO of the Avengers Squadron; a lot of you may remember us from another sim. After 9 long years in that sim, we are looking for a new home. Most of us have flown together for almost 10 years and we are a very tight bunch that does a lot of squad and country team work. We will be poking around in your community to get the feel of things. Please bare with us as it has been a very long time since we've had to learn a new flight sim. If possible I would like one of the squads that knows us to perhaps sponser us while learning the ropes; I have a lot of old military guys that don't do so well with change, but they'll be ok. Thx in advance.....
-
Which sim? I know that the 475th from one sim recently came to AH and are now a branch of the 475th in AH.
-
I hope you guys find a comfortable spot here in Aces High.
Don't know where you are coming from, but please bear with the smack takin' crap that constantly flows on our "all" text channel (CH 200). Ignore that and you will have tons of fun here.
-
We are coming from the same place as the 475th and should know most of those guys. Also, you can't hurt any of my guys with words, not even with sticks after they've had a few; they give it as well as they take it ............
-
Well, we might be able to help each other out.
I now have command of an old AH squad (VF-17 "Jolly Rogers") that has low membership at the moment. I'm trying to build it up again with more flying members (I've noticed we have about 3 that I'd classify as "active"), but am having trouble doing that because, well, would you want to be the 4th guy in such a small squad?
It's hard to recruit without a presence, is what I'm saying.
So, basically, I'd be more than happy to "sign you" for a few months and help you learn this game a little while you learn the ropes. After that, you can stick around, or leave if you'd like to restart your old squad. In the meanwhile, we could have some fun winging.
In return, I figure I'd have an easier time recruiting some new "long term" members.
It's a historical Corsair squadron, but we have no rules as to what you can fly. Let me know what you think,
-
Welcome aboard..
The best advise I can give you is too tune out ch200, until you get into the groove of things.
-
Vudak, I appreciate your offer, but unfortunantely, we will all be coming over at the same time, and will of course start our squad in there. But we'd sure be glad to wing up with anyone that's willng to help us learn the ropes.
-
If your ever on the knights your more then welcome to stop by. Look us online as ( + ) Precision. Give you as much info as possible. THeres a great help section located here
http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/
Also most are fairly helpful, when not engauged.
Cheers
-
Heh, did they change your arena Lut?:D
J/K man. Look us up if your looking for some bomber /escort/ strike action.
-
Welcome aboard!
You are gonna love it here.
I would also draw your attention to the CALENDAR button on the top of the BBS.
AcesHigh has some FANTASTIC Special Events.

Woops sorry sir :) I misread your post, when you said you were looking for a "sponsor" I thought that's what you meant (I'll admit, I was a bit confused at first :D )
Anyway, welcome aboard, and if you ever have any questions, give me a holler! If I know the answer I won't hold out :D

I have to put a plug in for the Axis vs. Allies arena. Numbers are low but if you come in people will follow and the AvA crowd is a different sort of animal.
Personally I never fly MA (early ma sometimes) as it is just not interesting to me. Not saying it does not have its place but I like the historical match ups of AvA.
Please swing through and meet the slower set. Just remember to bring your manners and behave in a civil manner to all.

LUT is a windbag no good trouble making CO :)

Welcome to AH. So when are you guys going to start playing here? Or have you already shown up?
Condor Nice Squad video by the way. :aok

Welcome to Aces High lutrel.
Currently the Knights seem to be the low chess piece on the totem pole and would certainly welcome a squad of experienced sticks. That said, the chess piece numbers advantage seems to work its way around about every 6 months.
Best advice from my end is to try a week in each "country" and get a feel for the lay of the land.
That said, there's an advantage to flying the chess piece with the lowest number of players at any given time. ENY (you'll learn about it soon enough) values are low or non-existent and perk points values (you'll learn that too :D )
are higher.
Have fun here and if anybody suggests on comm radio, to Alt + F6, don't do it :rofl
Good luck and Happy Hunting!
-
Thank you for the warm welcome guys; I think maybe the Allied Vs. Axis arena may be closer to what we are used to. We are used to very short icon ranges and allied vs axis plane sets, as well as a smaller crowd. It will take a week or so to get the guys all set up and halfway organized in the arena; see ya'll in the air soon.
-
U wont find much to fight in the A vs A, I control a squadron of about 30 guys myself, and i also run most if not all of the Missions on the rook side. I am responsible for alot of the wars won on the rook side, and put a stop to others winning, kind of like a LTARD but without the tard;).
I took alot of time to learn EVERY aspect of this game, and would be more than happy to show u some ropes, im sure u got the ACMs down and u will probly only need help with the technical stuff, and setup,
If u ever hop to the rook side check vox channel 120, my squad is to big to be recruting anyone else, especally since all of them are active atleast every other day and i have 2 alli squads that will wing up with us when we are in short numbers.
But me and my guys will always be willing to help,
VMF 323 Deathrattlers
also the Arch Angels
and the VF-31 tomcatters as well, all are willing to lend a hand to anyone that needs some help, and when i ever make some free time, im going to hit the DA alot more and do some more 1 on 1 training with my squad, u are more than welcome to do that as well.

Welcome to you and your Squad lutrel. I didn't see what type plane your Squad normally flies but we always like new blood and Texas to boot.
We are the 80th FS Headhunters (38s) :aok

Hi Lutrel. Your WarBirds squadron is an old, established and honourable one for sure. You guys will love it here.
I never flew with or against you (you were flying an earlier version back then), but as an ex-Ferret (snofox), I sure know about you guys and your efforts to keep the WWII Arena alive over there. Wonderful effort between you and the Ferrets. Too bad iEN just won't respond anymore.
But you will like it here too. Our scenarios are boss, and the AvA Arena is looking for good players and squadrons all the time. The Main Arena, and the Early War and Mid War Arenas are riots if you don't mind the mixed plane sets. And the flight models get changed here, and the planes fly like they should, and the game gets upgraded all the time, and everything WORKS! And if you guys fly like a disciplined squadron, you will rule.
Don't forget the Training Arena for help with setup and getting used to flight models and such. There are excellent trainers in there.
The very best to all of you. You've made the right choice.
:aok
eh?

Lut, welcome, good to have you and your guys here.
Once you get settled in, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll see if I can get you set up into a familiar event. We have mid week snapshots which are a walkon based event, Friday Squad Ops which are a more formal squadron based event, and we shoot for quarterly scenarios that take a few months to build and a month to run.
Anything I can do to help you guys ease into our community just ask. PM or hit me on the email link in signature.
Again, Welcome, and it's good to have you with us.
-
Just Lock up your sheep befor you talk to Roc :D
Oh yea Welcome aboard .
-
Wow!! Is there an exodus happening here??
Welcome to AH Avengers. Just have to say, if your looking for a place that has good FMs, good DMs, and a large following well, you've found it.
I might say that you won't go back to WB.
-
heya lut
Stoesy still flying?
look us up (Bishop) 367th "Dynamite Gang"
-
You may remember me...founder member former CO of The League of Gentlemen...Stevex.....way back to Fighter Ops. I left DaveJH in charge.
I can promise you, you guys will not regret the move. So I bid you welcome aboard. Most the key commands are the same as are the dot commands. Your transition will be swift with this regard.
I'll give you a brief heads up on a few other things. Text channels work almost the same but you will need to reset them to your preferences. Remember channel 6 is HELP channel but not many tuned into it so use 2 COUNTRY for help. By HELP I mean game information not "oh watermelon bandit on me 6" lol.
No auto bomber gunners here but gunning for yourself is just as effective especially with drones attached. Similar laser single salvo bomb site as in old FO. Just a short calibration needed.
No rolling plane set and a new Tour of Duty starts beginning of each month. Runways are bomb proof so no spawn point bombing:D There are a few indestructible buildings on all types of bases and just 1 in towns. Auto ack is nasty as is poofy ack.
Carriers are commandable and the 5 and 8 Inch guns are mannable but watch out for shore batteries and PT boat spawn points. CV command can be taken away by a higher ranked player.
Ground Vehicles can be fun and zoom in in tank site is Z and ]]]]]. Use the spawn points and be careful not to drive into solid objects at an angle. The GV will flip on it's side. Damaged or rolled GV's can be fixed with "Vehicle supplies". The ground war is a whole different ball game...Aces low I like to call it. Not my cuppa tea but good for a change of pace from time to time.
As for fighters you'll soon see. Maybe a week or so to get used to different characteristics. Some very good sticks in here that know and use all the moves. You'll love it.
Arenas least populated are Early War, Mid War (refers to plane set) and Axis v Allied. Most populated are the 2 Late War arenas (full plane set). Events are run frequently and a couple of biggies:D There's a Training Arena and folk you can book for 1 on 1 training. They have a good web site which could be worth checking out.
Stuff considered "not good form" are head on face shots. Low level dive bombing in heavy bombers. Bombing and bailing. Suiciding Carrier's. Deliberately setting up a vulch with no intention to capture.
I have one question are you bringing that total and complete W*****r Reilly with you ? This game doesn't need his type.
If not and your in rooksville I'll be glad to help out :aok
PS nearly forgot clipboard maps are not 100% accurate.
PPS Stay channel 200 in late war for the time being. It's ugly and none productive to a good evenings game.
-
lutrel, if I can be of any assistance give me a shout. The AH Trainer Corps is here to help smooth the transition. I'm in the TA most afternoons at some point.
If I can't help I'll at least be able to point you in the right direction.
Or feel free to email me ghosth@flyaceshigh.com
-
Lut, been a long long time. Prolly don't remember me but used to fly under name Airic- with Avengers and Nitowl with the Ferrets. Can't wait to see you and the avengers in the MA. Does =Yorkie= still fly with you guys?
Welcome to AH!!!
-
Yorks a Ferret now, still see him on from time to time
-
We had to let Reilly go long ago, and Yorkies no longer with us either. There are about 17 or 18 us looking into the switch of sims. It is good to see all these old names from our past in here, and thanks for all the offers of help in getting us started. I'm wondering if it will be better to use Team Speak for squad comms or does the VOX in the game offer a squad channel? Any advise on that will be appreciated as most of our squad language requires segregated or filtered for the most part; dirty old military men...............
-
Hey Lutrel, you may remember me from The Haze or maybe not. ;-)
Anyway, welcome to AH. I think for the squad TS is the way to go. It's a lot easier and offers the options of whisper modes for wingmen among other things.
Welcome again and enjoy the new skies.

The 475th FG "Satan's Angels" moved over to AH last November. Mostly fly in Late War, FSO & other events.
We still use TS for Squad VOX, partly due to questionable comments in non combat situations...
There is a Squad VOX in AH, however, we have found using TS for Squad, allows us to have Range VOX & another (Mission or Numbered) VOX from AH. Which give us 3 Voice Channels. At times Range is stepped on due to numerous players in range.
-
nahh,he wont remember with age goes memory:D..I remember you tho
how you been? Is the grass greener? :aok hope so.
-
Wellcome.
You surely find more action here and high numbers.
puujiiko
-
Gotta agree with Byheck on the voice. We also use TS for the squad, and use VOX to comm with escorts. It makes for multiple avenues of communication when working with multiple squads much much easier.
-
lut u dont need team speak in game has a squad vox and range works well
-
Welcome Lutrel! :)
As so many others have said if you have any questions feel free to contact me. PM or e-mail. If you like I can shoot you my phone number and I can answer questions over the phone which sure beats typing. :)

You'll find squad channel works well for both text and voice. No harm in having team speak as well....up to you.
Remember when WB FO had 300 + players at the weekend ? Late war arenas are like that :aok.
Take a few turns playing on each team before choosing a side although that's not necessary. Some squads do switch usually for a TOD.
Is DaveJH still active over there and is the LoG still going ?
-
A few of us got the squad on the roster last night in the A vs A Arena. We flew around to get the feel of things and even landed a few kills; so far we like what we see. Still possibly a few bugs to work out on a few of our machines to run smoothly, but nothing so far we can't get worked out.
On another note I have not seen Davejh or the loG squad in a very long time.
-
Almost forgot, hi Cooley, long time no see, and we have not seen Stoesy in a couple of years now. Like I said previously, we are very impressed with the community so far; tons of offers for help, not to mention old friends abound.

"Avengers"? Now where in the **** have i heard that name before? Oh yeah, you were the ones who shot me down over and over again for four years straight in Fighter Ops. Welcome to the crowded, unfriendly skies guys, glad to see more familiar faces/icons.:)
Did you turn out the lights on your way out?:D
-
Hi Jimmy, good to see you still flying buddy. We are still in the process of getting everyone down loaded and running smoothly in here. We have had very few issues with the move and like what we see so far. And like usual, I wouldn't be surprised if the lights go out now that we left our old home. As a squad we are looking forward to many more years of flying together in our new home.

Disregard comments from Bombnbail, he appears to be one of the problems from the sinking ship, err, sim we just left.

Lutrel,
If your in the mood for something different, we are having the Beta Frame for Der Grosse Schlag Scenario this Saturday 3:00 pm Eastern.
It's in the Special Events Arena.
Although it is a registered event, we do allow Walkons, and especially for a Beta Frame (Pre-View of the event, test arena settings)
Walkons often get permanent slots in the event, filling the holes that some registered people create by failing to show up.
Anyway, it's available, no harm if you don't know what's been going on planning wise, Beta's aren't scored.
Axis or Allied, feel free to come buy and check it out if you want.
-
Thanks ROC, I personally have to work this weekend, but I'll get the word out to the guys and see if they wish to adventure out into the event.
-
Is this Jordi's old squad?
-
Work? Man, that word shouldn't make it past the bad language filter :)
Have anyone you talk to just look me up, I'll make sure they don't get the walkon noob treatment from the masses, and get the grand tour.

That depends, if his WB handle was Stoesy, then yes; I took the squad over from him years ago.
