Title: Gadget freaks... Is the new iPod worth it? (aka poorman's iPhone)
Post by: 1K3 on September 06, 2007, 11:29:20 AM
I haven't joined the iPod bandwagon until they announced they're gonna offer iPod Touch.

I think I made a wise decision for not buying the iPhone.  I'll wait until iPhone fully supports 3G or 4G networks:aok

Nice gadget, but too little space to be worth the price tag compared to the new ipods.

I checked the specs again and it says it uses Flash Solid State Disk and have no moving parts (no wear-and-tear like the HDD).  I think the 8 gb is too small.  They should have 15 and 30 gb for iPod Touch.

No email either? Not really worth the price tag.

Its a really nice device and - if it is solid state - the price is not too bad.

However, the real problem with all ipods is the lack of compatibility with a subscription music service like Rhapsody or Napster.

I don't want to pay $1 per track if I only listen to it a couple of times. I'll gladly pay $15 a month though to listen to whatever I want whenever I want. That means I'm sticking with Windows Media based players for now.

Normally I hate apple products, but those new ipods aren't bad looking. I'd love to have a flash based media player with wifi and a decent screen for around home. But I'm guessing it wouldn't player divx, xvid, etc.

Tunebite (http://tunebite.com/en/remove_drm/index.html)

I have my iPod shuffle loaded to the gills with tracks downloaded from Napster. Same with the girlfriend's iPod. I don't think I would even own iPods if it weren't for that software.
