Title: Splat
Post by: Rabies_II on September 07, 2007, 02:15:33 PM
I seem to be doing this a lot as one of the greenhorns.
I have managed to knock a few guys down, but they were probably asleep or dead at the stick and I just knocked the wings off with a nervous twitch.
I find I black out a lot, head on pass and turn to meet and fade to grey about half the time. I can ride the buzzer and not quite black out and sometimes squeeze off a shot, usually, some little skeeter patters me before I get turned to meet him. This usually in a Spit VIII, XIV or P51. I play with others but stay in those three mainly. Speed kills I suppose as I am entering turns to fast. Mastering the basics was not to bad, mastering the strategy and tactics is bewildering.
I find the tank battles enjoyable and seem to do a bit better there, still, the eagle eyes have spots and ranges pat so I disappear in flames more than they do.
Thinking of confining myself to one plane until I am holding my own... what recommendations for 1st plane to master, 2nd and 3rd?

Heres a tip, when you go head on, don't try to shoot at the guy, avoid it and go into a immelman and come back ontop of them.

Most of us ride the black out.  I hope you have stall limiter off.  Check out some web pages about combat manuevers.  Murdr is a trainer with a good site.  Go to web page help training listed bottom of the list I believe. Or under "game info" where you found community / forums go to     .........need training.

Rabies,

Spit 8's and 9's are a very good place to start as they are very nimble and forgiving planes.  I would recommend that you stay there until you get the hang of ACM's and SA.  As far as the black out is concerned, it is going to happen.  You do want to try and keep just a small window of sight as opposed to complete blackout as this will allow you to come through the turn better without as much energy loss.  It should give you an advantage over your opponent if you are at equal E states.  It would also be a good idea to visit the Training arena as there are some very skilled individuals there willing to help.  Hope this helps and good luck in the skies.  Always remember superior gunnery wins most fights.  Practice, Practice, Practice!!!

The problem your having is your turning to late. If you go head to head with a like plane if the other guys starts his turn half a second before you he will finish his turn before you, and get the first shot.

Click on THIS LINK (http://airmafia.com/merge/fighting101.htm) Its a short write up on a merge. This one shows it only in the vertical as the blue plane drops below the red plane in the merge. Just remember that this move can be done from any angle.  You can start low left, and turn to the high right (obleak angle)

Best thing to do is hook up with a trainer. A few hours with a trainer can cut back weeks of fumbling around in the MAs
