My first suggestion would be to post this one somewhere else .... {grin!}

If you cannot easily find or access the core, I suggest you hire it done.

move to florida and you won't need a heater. nice babes around here too.
-
Wrag, in order to do it, yes, you MUST take apart the dash.
-
I did the heater core in my dads S10 without removein any of the dash =)
but for the most part yeah you have to in most vehicles
-
Wrag do a little searching for Toyota clubs, maintenence, ect. There are some great sites with step by step instructions, pictures, ect. I had an 85 SR5 4wd that I worked on over the years. These sites made it so much easier.
There are a lot of old Toyota trucks still on the road. Also a lot of passionate owners. You should be able to find anything you need.
I finally sold mine last year, or I would still have the links. The guy that bought mine was going to completely restore it.

Ever work on later model Fords?

Got the book and what the book says just isn't the case.
The piece that holds the heater core splits horizontally rather then vertically.
So lookin like I gotta pull the entire unit out to change the core out.
So I figure I gotta lot of work to do just to get the core out :(
This is a 1984 Toyota 4x4 extended cab SR5.
Has AC and electric windows.
Also has a BIG center piece coming down from the dash and bolting to the floor that hold the ashtray and radio etc.

i have found that the first thing that goes into the body shell is the heater core, everything else is put in on top of it, it's sucks but i guess "engineers" have never had to work on the things they "engineer".
i have always felt that "engineers" should have to work in a shop for 3-4 years before they are allowed to design anything for a real car.

i feel the same way about architects. keep in mind that the car companies make more money if people HAVE to go to the stealership to get there car fixed.

I have the manuals!
What is in the manual and what is in my truck DON'T match! Nor does the method described work with my vehicle.
-
i only use factory manuals, they are about $80 each but they go into much more detail. Yes, you can buy them from the printer.

It's damn near impossible to do heater core's unless you almost completely disassemble the dash. I believe my 96 Probe is that way, Taurus', and definitely Expeditions. Blend door and motor for an Expedition is 8 hours or more if I recall correctly.

I have many times. What's your problem with working on them?

Newsflash. They throw the heater core on the firewall and build the dash around it. I hate to tell you but all cars with a heater core are built this way.
-
I went to the Toyota Truck forum and searched for 'heater core'.
I then asked them if they thought the 109k4 was better than the spit9 and if they think the firefly is modeled correctly.
I'll keep you posted on the replies I get.
-
I've seen Jeep Grand Cherokees that you pull the front kick panel and the heater core will come out without much effort after that. I have a problem with Fords anyway though, don't know why they just always give me problems. I must not have "the touch" (or patience).

well then you take to long! work smart not long. could do it in 4 hours or less and dash will not be out of car. could do one in say a beretta in 1 hour. not all cars require dash removal.
