Need help guys. Went to Pacific Pools online, typed in my zip code, found a builder near us, clicked the link...spyware loaded (Penicillin detected it) So, I do a "Restore from Friday, sept.7th" and computer hangs for 30 min on reboot. I shut it down (cold boot) and fire it up and this is what I get (Picture) Nothing works, safe mode doesn't work, last known good configuration doesn't work, it keeps ending up at this picture. Any clues?

Looks like a "Boot Sector" Problem.
You can fix it by inserting your MS Windows disk and reinstall,
when the options come up, select "Repair" instead of reinstall.
Might work might not it did for me but had to reinstall some software.
Anyone else got a better suggestion, I'm sure there is someone here
with a less than drastic sulotion..

your computer is possessed. burn it at midnight.

pop in your XP CD and do a "repair".
OR (and I don't recom. this)
reinstall your op system (w/o a format)
you can try F8 on boot and pick "last known good config".
in general this means it's format time.
If you have another hard drive you can pop that one in as the master, and the screwed up one as a slave and xfer the data to is so ya' don't loose anything.

Thats my guess, try to repair windows
And monday id be calling that pool place up an raise 10 kinds of hell over their webpage loading spyware on your PC

if you have a slave drive and another pc, you can copy your data over that way.
other things:
try booting in safe mode.
otherwise...
iirc, rip has a dell which disallows you from using a previously formated hard drive in place of the original. it's pure suck. before this one, i used to swap hard drives on my dells all of the time.
id recommed reinstalling the operating system (dirty install) ive done it pn my dell laptops many times before without problems, but i have had to reinstall drivers in some instances...easy to do, just go to dell support and type in your service code and download pretty much everything.
ultimately, i'd recommend a reformat, but you have to move your data off...which is a pain if you want to get email and settings etc.
or just buy a new HD. probably get one cheap...start over again...
sigh...just did a total reformat...took the better part of the day.

Bill Gates has denied your request for a pool.

I had the same kind of error when a DIMM memory stick went bad on me
last year. Can you do a check of your hardware? The fun part with mine is that
different blue screens of death came up, causing me to try to reload windows.
The windows reinstallation would hang due to the bad ram and eventually I
was forced to admit defeat and call tech support as I had no idea what was
wrong :)

I heard that screen comes up when you have been visited to many porn sights.

Just toss in your archived disk image of your boot drive on DVD that you made after reading my post in 2005 and restore you C: drive in minutes.
What? You didn't back up your hard drive?
Yikes!
Good Luck,

Tired of formatting and reinstalling Windows?
You betcha!
Do you archive shortcuts, address books, AHII settings folders, photos, personal docs, browser Favorites, registry backups, services configs, etc etc etc in preparation for the day when you have to format and reinstall Windows due to corruption, hard drive failure or new box migration?
Not to mention all the Apps you have on your hard drive that you say "It's ok I've got the CD to reinstall Whizbang.exe."
Add to this the time-consuming hassle of re patching windows security updates (Service packs x.xx) after a new install.
On my PC I have 4 separate User desktops to recreate on the new install!
This just takes doggone too much of my time!
Do what I did...backup your whole hard drive to another drive and save a complete C:/ drive image to DVD for off-site storage!
I used Norton GHOST 9.0 but there are several other good programs out there that will do the same thing.

Oh you jerk, I snorted coffee out my nose! :)
Rip, as said before, the Repair should fix it. It might fudge up your PC's settings so I hope you do backups from time to time.

Odd, I haven't noticed anything like that. Maybe I need to step up my game.

As others have said, a repair is the easiest thing to do. It will leave your data and programs intact. If that fails you can install windows to another folder which will bascially create a dual boot system leaving everything on the disk but your programs will have to be reinstalled. It's not much different than installing over the top of the current windows install.
From my experience the only sure way to distinguish between corrupted software and a hardware failure is to wipe, reformat, and reinstall everything.

Just an update:
First, this is the very first time I've ever had "Blue screen of death" since Windows 3.1 dating back to roughly 1994-85. I've been fortunate enough (or damn lucky) of never having a virus or spyware loaded on my computers over the years. PC-cillian worked as it should, detecting the intrusion perfectly(Brave Sentry spyware). Unfortunately I didn't have the spyware-deletion part of the PC-cillian, and I shall purchase that as well now.
Okay, that said, Brave Sentry was loaded on my machine without my consent after clicking a pool builders link to a local contractor. I've yet to chew their tulips out but that's coming.
After seeing BS loaded, I attempted to do a restore to a previous date (would this have taken care of the BS loaded? I don't know, maybe you can tell me?)
After my computer appeared to be shutting down for about 45 min, I decided to cold boot it. Big mistake. That's when the "memory parity" error began. I looked for my back up CD, but could not find it (turns out I had put it in a safer spot, like my external hard drive! doh!) So I did a Windoze Restore (thanks AKIron) and was able to get back into my system with safe mode, transferred some recent files to my external hard drive (I do back ups every week, so there were not that many) and then I formatted, reloaded everything. I'm almost back to normal, just have a few more drivers to load.
rpm, that was pretty damn funny! :rofl
