there isnt much info to go on for a jug on this web site,
after reading it all i can see iis that it was a 9th air force squadron ,the pictures are not big enough or clear enough to show squadron markings or plane markings.

been trying to find out some more info but havent found anything,

Maybe Dan might have something to go on to start as a basis?

The markings on his plane are the same as the p-47d-40 we have in the game for tarheel hal. yes that does help

the model looks like  a d40 but one of the planes in the orgional photo looks more like the d25 with out the xtra fin extension along the top.

I ike the d11 but we got too many of them already:(

I think cookie5 & 6 were all d40's trying to find more info, tail numbers the colours of the insignia & so on in his bio it said a motion picture was done on his squadron & his plane still looking for that. At least you can tell on  2 pictures in his bio that his plane was IAS I would have to assume all the other cookies are the same. I can make out the tail numbers on the first plane looks like 228651.

The model carries the serial number of a P-47D-30-RA. Tarheel Hal is also a P-47D-30-RA.

So is tarheel Hal we have in the game correct since it is listed as a d-40?

We have lots of skins in the game that do not actually belong to the model.

P-47 Penrod and Sam is on a D-11, when the actual aircraft was a D-21.

There is no real visual difference between a D-30 and a D-40.

My regards,

Widewing

Looks good so far the green on the bulk of the fusalage & the grey looks about spot on as well as the tail & its orange colour. As you said it is hard to make out the rest from a black & white photo still digging around for info. Found a book that was written about the 358th f/g at $197.00 it may have to sit on the shelf until I know a little more about it, also a original leather copy for over $500.00 that will not be in my collection that's for  sure lol.   http://www.biblio.com/details.php?dcx=53339245&aid=frg The tail # I am almost certain is 228651. Great job will keep looking for info have a few jug dvd's on order see what I can find I may contact this guy too he may be able to help. http://www.dailyrecord.com/news/articles/news1-p47.htm

I think the S is over lapping the orange & the green in the photo it looks as if the lower portion of the orange tapers forward were the top is leaning back a bit towards the tail. I can see a line right through the S were the 2 colours meet. (http://www.picburst.com/uploads/742d7d380a.jpg) (http://www.picburst.com)

Well dvd's arrived not much use had a lot of recent footage of Tarheel Hal. I ordered that book that I mentioned nothing on Captain Hillis or his plane. It did have pictures of the above pictured Razor backs they are correct markings & colours. The web site that has Hillis's bio I sent them your pictures & they liked them a great deal & some one is to get back with me with some more info. When it is included in the game http://www.stormbirds.com would like to post them on the bio web page.

wow thats nice to know ,now i really got to make it look good:)

i see what you mean about the letter and the orange a different set of eyes always helps in finding the lttle things.like most things if  you loo at something to much you tend to miss the little differences

Rogerdee could you look around & see if you can find a copy of this book in the UK can't find it here. (http://www.picburst.com/uploads/302e6cb0d8.jpg) (http://www.picburst.com) I think it's about the 366th fighter squadron only.
