I think I've seen all US, Britain, Soviet, and German footages of their planes.
but this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr-o5hCzp18
NOTE: like its German counterpart, this is a propaganda footage mixed with gun cam footage.

The footage is from the movie 'Kato Hayabusa Sentotai' filmed in 1944 by Toho Co, screenplay by Kajiro Yamamoto. It's a story of Kato Takeo (Susumu Fujita).
Lot of scenes were filmed with real aircraft (including captured allied rides).

I hope nobody bases their expectations of Ki-43 firepower on that clip. :p
-
IIRC Akira Kurosawa was involved (co-writer or something) with a film on Hayabusa. Is this the same film?

Not that I know of. The only other well known person involved was Ishiro Honda (assistant director).
There was another movie about Kato and 64th Sentai "Rikugun hayabusa sentotai" (1970). It is possible he was involved.
I know he wrote few parts for Tora! Tora! Tora! though.

Looks like bunch of Ki 84s to me:t

A bit of googling revealed that Kurosawa was co-writer of another film called "Tsubasa no gaika" aka "A Triumph of Wings" (1942).

There's a Brewster in it! Show it to the Finns! :D
Btw, I think you all already know this, anyway... if you're looking about any kind of information regarding cinema or TV http://www.imdb.com is your best friend. :)

hmmm, got to get me a pair of cowl mounted 7.7mm:aok
-
7.7mms sound like a gentle spring rain on my roof as they bounce lightly off my F4U. :D
-
Ahem. Those are HO 103 12.7mm

Why not? Many base their expectations on US guncams and take them as religious gospel :)
Besides, most Ki-43s were armed with 2x12,7 shooting explosive bullets and the guns were concentrated closely on the nose, so the effect on target was much more efficient than one would imagine at first thought.
-
The Ki-84 in AH has those two guns in its nose already. They can kill, but they are not wonder weapons by any stretch.
If you want to experience Ki-43-II firepower just grab a Ki-84 and empty your cannons.

Excellent footage and it is always nice to see how those planes moved in the air. The rest is the normal propaganda and somewhat crappy effects, but still done with skill considering the time and conditions. Better than many western productions during and after the war.

So that's what Toho did before the Godzilla movies. Wouldn't it be great if Aces High had a Godzilla monster that you could drive around? It would be thirty stories tall, atomic breath, claws, perhaps it could lay eggs on the enemy bases and spawn Godzookis, which of course can fly.
Warbirds had one, a very long time ago:

Seriously, though, it would be fascinating to know what was going through the filmmakers' minds in 1944. Did they know they were losing the war? And that their film would be used to make young men feel better about being sent to certain death? I bet they had some sleepless nights when it was all over.

Wonder what Michael Moore would have put out had he been around during WW2?
I'm sure he would have found a way to make it look like we lost at Midway, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. And I'm sure he would have turned that whole D-Day thing into a debacle on our behalf as well.

I have enough serious stuff going on in life... I can deal without the drama on the boards.
Keep the modern day political crap in O'Club. Thank you.

Politics just makes people angry. Don't be so egotisitcal to think that everybody shares your views and save your political vomit for more appropriate places.

Great film.....
I sure wish we could get a Ki-43 in Ace's....even primative Air Warrior had it.
Sadly anytime I ask for any Japanese plane type...people are totally opposed to it.....boooooooo
-
Hi Helm!
I would also like to see more Japanese aircraft KI-44 being my favourite. KI-43 would very nice too. D4Y would great aswell!
However, expanding Russian planeset is just as important also so there's a lot to do.
-
From everything I have read about the Ki43 is that it was the nimblest of aircraft aircraft of WW2. I personally wouldn't mind seeing it in AH, but as stated nobody likes Jap planes but a few of us. Ki44 would be cool but it didn't do anything well that would attract people to fly it. Remember the leading Japanese Army ace, Annabuki flew the Ki43 and finished with 51 kills.:aok
-
"owing to its very light structure the ki-43 often disintegrated when hit by 0.5in fire."
Heck yeah ill take a slower zeke that had no cannons, can turn on a dime and can be killed by one .50.
Then again, i can only imagine what some of these pilots could do with a plane like this.
Still, unless the pilot was skilled enough to land alot of wing tip shots, or cockpit hits, it would be very hard pressed to shoot someone down with only 500 rounds.
The IIIb did get the guns changed out for x2 20mm "most think they got the .20mm in the wings, wrong."
but only a few made it into production.
If it has wings, a engine and at least one gun, i want it. ;)

If anyone doubts that the thread eblongs here, don't -- the film shows one MA gang attack after another, always from a higher altitude!
Definitely shows the right degree of realism for a 1940s production. At about 3 minutes: Is it just me, or does the wing of Kis roll out on a P-40, and end up shooting down a Huricane? Talk about camoflage!

Yep you're right. Special effects shots! :)
