after all that was taken, by order of the court, changes in income were not taken into account?
Some of the comments are interesting as well.

The child support system is ****ed. Not much you can do but take all those social workers behind the shed and shoot them in the head.

and yet my daughters father can not pay a dime for 10 years and is still walking around free.

You must not live in Pennsylvania, then.

He knew he had child support payments. There is no indication in the article that he went to court to get them reduced to fit his current income.
I believe he has 6 kids with an equal number of mothers. By the time the first kid showed up he should have had an idea about how that happened. While I won't excuse him from being deficient in taking care of his legal obligations I also feel for him about being taken by one of the "mothers" who is no doubt very used to the life style he provided.
He has access to legal help but seemed not to take advantage of it. If you ignore something it likely will not go away and probably will bite you on the arse. He's an adult he needs to act like one and take care of business.
-
In Michigan it is very common for someone who loses his job to be told by the Judge to get a better job when he go's in for a support reduction due to lower income.
Family court Judges have near dictatorial powers over this and if you draw a hard *** you are in deep.
The jails here are full of folks who have found this out.

Six kids with six women. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in child support.
I felt sorry for him until I read that...
If he's going to be spreading the wealth he needs to do it for all his kids.....
-
Von Messa is correct. In pennsylvania, the woman doesn't even have to show up to court and she'll win.
And what Dichotomy said confuses me slightly... But that could be because I just assume everyone is a guy unless literally written otherwise.

Point is, ONE mother is trying to take it ALL for ONE child.
I'm NOT excusing ANYTHING he's done. But that one mother is scum. She and the one child DO NOT deserve his entire $170K pension AND another $30K.
Greed on the part of the mother of the child in a divorce is among the ugliest and most disgusting things you'll see. And the child rarely ever gains anything from the greed of the mother.
I moved in with a buddy of mine who was divorced, as his brother had bailed on him, leaving him with plenty of bills, and no extra income. My buddy had two sons, who lived with their mother, in an expensive condo. My buddy was living in an old farm house that barely had indoor plumbing, electricity, and a phone.
One Friday, I brought my bosses race car and rig home with me, so I could take it to the track Saturday afternoon, and not have to drive out of the way. My buddy's wife brought the boys to the house for the weekend. By Monday afternoon, she had filed papers demanding more child support, since my buddy now evidently had enough money to own a race car, a truck and a trailer.
I actually had to go to court and testify that even I didn't own the race car, truck, or trailer, it was my boss's, and not mine or my buddy's. I actually did an afternoon in jail for contempt over it. Her lawyer accused me of perjury, out right calling me a liar and a thief. When I told him "I am neither, nor am I a lying, scum sucking, bottom feeding lawyer, in the employ of a greedy low life potato, as well as a common SOB", the judge told me "one more outburst like that" would land me in jail for contempt of court. Having lost an entire day's pay, for no valid reason, I told the judge "I have nothing but contempt for any court that would allow her and her lawyer in it". So I did an entire afternoon in jail until a lawyer (and former judge) friend of Dad's heard about it and told the judge he'd made a major mistake.
My wife's first job with the state was to deal with REAL dead beat parents who had money to pay legitimate amounts of child support. I know full well what a real dead beat is. I also know full well how screwed up the system really is.

I'm pretty sure Dichotomy is a male. He MAY be like my nephew, who has adopted the son of his wife, from her previous marriage. They finally got sick of her ex, and told him since he refused to pay child support on time, if he'd pay all the court costs, and surrender any and all rights he or his family had to the boy, they'd terminate the child support payments and any further contact. He did.

Here's another few pieces from the article wrag:
"He didn't really have an option," said Blades' attorney, David Burgess. "The defense's ability to pay is no longer allowed to be argued under the statute."
Cox acknowledged that, "in order to convict him, his ability to pay doesn't matter." But he said Blades could have brought up his ability to pay at sentencing.
But even then "he is still guilty of a felony!" Burgess said. "His comment as to `you could argue the ability to pay at sentencing' is disingenuous. If a prosecutor knows somebody does not have the funds to pay a certain amount, then they are under an ethical obligation to not pursue the prosecution."
_____________________________ _____________________________ __
His ability to pay the initial appointed amount is no longer something that is allowed to be argued it looks like. That's odd.
At any rate, if he'd been a wee bit more responsible, he wouldn't have placed himself in this predicament to begin with.

Sorry about that. I consider her my 'daughter' even though I'm not the bio dad.
We've had bio father in court numerous times and he never pays. The AG's office 'can't find him' even though he rents a house from the chief of police in his hometown and works for cash under the table. He's 20k behind in CS and insurance payments and, to get her on my insurance, costs me $240 a month.
He's a scumbag I'm not. I can live without the $240 a month + all the etc's. I've got a great daughter he has to deal with the fact that he's worth more to her dead (thanks to the social security) than alive.
Cold blooded on my part? Yes.
Want to seriously see me go off on a subject about a fathers responsibilities to his family and kids?
Ya pretty much the only subject that anybody can really get me going on considering I won custody of my son in Tennessee where the dad winning custody rate is roughly 1.5%.

Similar but you can't do that in TX according to our counsel. He's still responsible.

Ya let's see... what makes babies again? Last time I checked they teach that in elementary school these days because so many 'parent's' abdicate their responsibilities to the public education system, television, and x-box.
okay I'm sorry I'm ranting and I don't do that here.

Stupid. He learned some important lessons.
1. Pick your wife wisely.
2. Have kids and be their father, not a sperm donor.
I have no pity for some moron fathering 6 kids with 6 women. I am sorry, but he wasn't in love with those women....he was playing and didn't give a dang about the resultant kids.
Perhaps others can learn from his errors.

They will catch up with him eventually.
They caught up with my father. Who hadnt paid in at least that long.
My sister was just about to turn 18
And I was already out of the house and married for 2 years when they caught up with him.
Made him pay back every penny too.
They gave him two choices.
Pay the money or go to jail.
Not working wasnt an option either. He had to come up with the cash if he was working or not.
My mother had long since stopped thinking about it when all of a sudden she started getting checks in the mail from the state. LOL

Good for you!
I can respect a man who is willing to stand by his principles even in the face of jail time.
I probably would have done the same.
As for your wife. I am glad to see you say "dead beat parents"
I've known several divorced people. It has been my observation that whomever doesnt have the kids tends to become the dead beat reguardless of sex.
Thing is the woman is usually the one that gets the kids.
But of the ones I've seen where the man has gotten custody. The women have been just as likely to not pay support.
The difference seems to be that with men. they generally dont care and would just as soon the ex not give them any money.
With most of them saying. "I dont want anything form her. Not a penny. All I want from her is gone"

Honestly, I was mostly just pissed off. The guy called me a liar, and had no proof. I was just as much young and hot tempered as I was anything.

Yep, losing your job due to injury will get your child support obligation re-calculated. I bet this guy didn't want to waste money on an attorney lol.

Geez Virgil I'm not sure but I think you even beat my line.
At the custody hearing this was my exchange with my ex's attorney
'So do you think that (deleted) is a good mother'
'No I don't'
'Do you think she's capable of raising a child in a healthy enviornment?'
'I don't think she's capable of raising a goldfish'
The judge laughed :)

When we were in Lafayette LA. visiting grand kids we watched the local news. Every week they had a most wanted broadcast. It was all dead beat dads, some of whom owed more than $100K. They went out as reporters and found some of them themselves and did interviews. They then reported on the arrests and how much they had to pay to get out of jail as well as the payment that went to the ex the next month.
They found a couple of the dads still running the same business they had when married and not making payments. Some tried to hide their assets by transferring them to the new wife yet still handed out business cards showing it in their name.
