We need a control setting that allows us to spread our bombers out a little bit more. Im not saying "a lot more" but it wouldnt kill anyone for a game setting to spread our 3 bomber formations out a bit. This wouldnt just be for survival but also for a little bit better bomb spread on the targets.
-
Actually the opposite should be done, if it were changed at all which it will not be. you do not want "spread" on your drops as it reduces the amount of damage to the intended target. that is unless you are carpet bombing, which if you are just means you need to learn how to bomb correctly.
-
I might be wrong, but I can remember when I first started in 2003, that the bombs from all 3 bombers would drop as if calibrated from each bomber.
So instead of all bombs hitting one target, you would see 3 lines of bombs. Made hitting strat targets a lot more fun.

You still do...

If you are trying to "pinpoint" a hanger, sure.
But, if you are bombing a town or factory with 1000 lbrs, you would definitely like to see more spread between your bombers. The blast radius of each bomb overlaps as is. Spread them out, more buildings killed in one pass.
LTARget thought surely CBass would know this.

With thousand pounders maybe, but if your hanger bangin' with 500lbers and more spread on the would result in some of the bombs not doing full damage. As it is with them if you drop to far to either side of the hanger one will not hit it. As for hitting towns and strats, 2 passes with 2 b17's with 250's will destroy more buildings that anything but a lanc with 100lber's, even if the bombs were spread this would still be true.

And that's Rich is asking for a control setting for bomber spread, not just a bigger spread ;)

Doh!
I missed that part, I read it but totally missed it.

All my bombs converge on one point now, or close to it. But I remember back in 2003 the bombs would be more spread out from each bomber. My memory must be playing tricks on me.

It may just look that way from a distance/altitude due to perspective.
If you are on the ground, you see the spacing between drone's bombcraters. Sometimes the scatter of each individual bomb causes them to land closer to each other, but generally the distance between them is the distance between the individual planes.

I know how to bomb correctly, but thanks for my daily dose of AH condescension. If you went back to my post you probably saw that I requested control on "spreading out your bombers". That means "in" as much as "out". Ive followed bombers in heavy gunships and seeing the 3 of them following each other so closely, at the same altitude, is like shooting ducks. I'm surprised any of us ever survive attacks on bombers.
Being able to spread them out a bit would make them more survivable, as well as give us more control on bomb spreads vis-a-vis bomb poundage and particular targets.
But now no doubt some fighter stick will tell me to go to the TA to learn how to bomb, gun, fly, and turn my computer on.

Hmmmmm. Having a bad day? :huh

i see nothing wrong with what he said, said it more polite than i would have. his request was easy to understand and he got an ahole response.
If i flew bombers that sounds like it would be a useful option.

So... it WOULD kill someone!

No, actually I'm having a fine one. I just made a good run on an airfield, took out 3 hangars with one pass, and then shot down 3 bogeys in my B-26s. Including a Mossie and a 110.
Ive been chewing up everyone whos been trying the belly attack profile on the B-26 or 25. I found a way to beat it. And Im not telling.
-
easy, if you have a twisty stick just keep the plane turning to keep the guns pointed down.

Nope, not bad but not good enough. Ive tried that and as long as the fighter has enough energy, and lines up on the middle bomber, hes going to have something to shoot at on the upswing. Using your technique he'll still have plenty of shooting time. Enough to get at least one. Also remember you aren't going to be able to see him when he slides underneath. My tactic does include turning but thats not the major componant. I fried a fighter pulling the belly attack on a B-25H last night.
Eventually I'll tell all my technique, Ive already told my squadies, but right now I'm having to much fun blowing up fighters.
