After the P-39, of course.

The A-36 Apache, it was the earliest of Mustangs.  It was used for ground attack but could still compete as a fighter.  It also had dive brakes and was used for dive bombing.

I'd rather have the Mustang MK.Ia/P-51.... Hispanos and decent speed down low.
