Title: Hurrucane down at English Airshow
Post by: Guppy35 on September 15, 2007, 12:42:41 PM
Details on the Flypast forum.  It appears that it spun in during a mock dogfight.  G-HURR is the registration.  It was painted in night fighter paint for a long time but has been in RCAF markings recently.

Pilot reported killed  :(

It's so hard to read this kind of story. My prayers go out to the pilot and his family. The loss of a vintage a/c is also sad but is nothing compared to the loss of the pilot.

May he Rest in Peace.

"Tim Deakin, who saw the plane plough into the hillside, told BBC News 24: "Midway through the dogfight one of the planes, I'm not sure which one, literally, turned quite steeply, went into almost a straight dive and ploughed into a hill probably about a mile from the airfield."

Two Spitfires carried out a flypast in the "man missing in action" formation shortly after the crash, he said.

...

Spectators said the airshow was delayed for about 30 minutes but organisers said over the tannoy system that the pilot would have wanted them to carry on."

I imagine the Spitfire pilots went back, had a stiff drink, and toasted the poor chap.

If it's BD707/G-HURR, this is the aircraft:

Very unfortunate. :(

It was great seeing G-HURR's and the Buchon's (G-BWUE) tail chase display during Flying Legends 2006.
