Title: Escort
Post by: Stampf on September 15, 2007, 03:11:25 PM
JG11 had escort duty out of A5 in Ki-84's for the northern strike package consisting of the 346th FG and the Unforgiven. Staying close to the 346th, the larger element of the two attack forces, JG11 held good order, 6 planes in 3 rotten' above and behind the Niks.

At 22:28 hours we were jumped by a larger force of enemy P-38's, from the west.  Engaging we downed 7 of them in quick order and the strike package delivered it's attack with good results.

At the 1 hour mark, A8 was bustling with activity, with aircraft re-arming and heading back out.

Back up...

Engaged  small mixed groups of Spit's, 47's, and 51's for the remaining hour.

The guns of Herr Vater

Vater would claim 5 enemy planes by frames end.

The Northern Strike Package would claim 39 kills for the loss of 9 pilots.  In addition to 86 enemy objects destroyed at the various targets.  A great job all, and a very fun frame.

After flying around A1 defending the field for over an hour, the Fighting 31 was ordered to hunt whatever they could find.  A4 was the destination.  Heavily outnumbered at more than 2:1, we engaged at T+80.  Out of 9 remaining P47's, 2 made it home.

First kill.  Lunger didn't see it coming.

Almost 2nd kill, DaWop survives with a fuel leak.

2nd kill, trax1 doesn't make it home.

The end, turned around to engage 3 niki's chasing friendlies.  Kill by schreck.

Great screen shots gents.

Mongrels were assigned to attack A23. 1/2 the squad was in B-25's on the deck and the other 1/2 were in P-38 flying cover. We were slaughtered over A23. What a mess. P-38's and B-25's littered the sky. We only downed a few Ki-61's. Have not been spanked that badly in a while. :cry

Went to 20 unescorted the first go round. Slid under a scout or 2(I think). But faced no opposition on first assalt.

Where was the deffence? Don't get me wrong- didn't miss them a bit in heavy low Nikis:)

We let the C-Hawks and JG11 brake dar at 4 1st. If there was a mutual support type of CAP, that would explane it.

Our pleasure as well Subway.  Salute C-Hawks.

We lost one pilot.  Taking casualities in FSO bothers me.  Even a victory seems lacking when squadmates are lost.  The best frame for me is when all of JG11 makes it home regardless of kill claims, and a kill by one of us, is a victory for all of us.  The FSO is the one area in AH that this type of teamwork and dedication to a larger cause really comes out, and the community here as a whole, is the cream of the crop. IMO.

Fly FSO.

It is amazing how the frames play out. All in all the overall quality (both in regard to individual skill and tactics/coordination) for ALL the FSO squads is formidable. You then look at the plane sets and say whoa...side A has the edge here...and yet in the end its all about planning and execution.

In frame #1 my mental image of the allied CIC was George C Scott as Patton as he watched the 10th Panzer roll into his trap yelling "you @#$% I read your book".

In the 2nd frame things were reversed...

Of course we borrowed the Patriots "intel crew" and intercepted your defensive signals:D
