Title: Mitsubishi J8M Shusui (Sword Stroke)
Post by: AirFlyer on September 15, 2007, 07:20:27 PM
Does anyone have any idea if this is a legit plane, I can't seem to pull much up on it and can't shake the idea that it is awfully similar to a Me-163. I know the Japanese Navy had rocket engine technology because I've seen the "Baku" (I can't remember the real name off hand) and know that was rocket powered.

The orginial site where I got the info. (http://www.combinedfleet.com/ijna/j8m.htm)

One 1,500 kg thrust Toko Ro.2 (KR10) bi-fuel liquid rocket

One wing-mounted 30 mm Type 5 cannon (J8M2).

Dimensions:

Height - 2.70 m
Wing area - 17.7 m2

Loaded - 3,885 kg
Wing loading - 219.1 kg/m2

Performance:
Maximum speed - 900 km/h at 10,000 m
Climb to 10,000 m in  3 min 30 sec
Service ceiling - 12,000 m
Power endurance - 5 min 30 sec

Production:
Seven Shusui aircraft were built in 1945 by Mitsubishi Jukogyo K.K.

I am nearly positive that they never made it past testing.

In the Japan terrain the default skin for the 163 is in Japanese markings for the shusui. Also 262 and 234 skins for hypothetical confrontations.

Wrong, it was a copy, the germans provided the Japanese with blueprints. The Japanese just improved upon the original design making it larger for more flight time.
They did the same thing to the 262.

I know if anyone had noticed, I was merely asking if it was an actual plane, or someone who had fun with photoshop because it looked far to similar to a Me-163 to me, but reguardless I got the answer to my question so it's all good.

The J8M was aplanned as a licenceced built Me 163B.

But basically only a technical documentation ever reached Japan.

That has German written all over it. Funny how they also copied German optics as well, hence the Japamese camera market. It's also kinda funny how every lexus has Bmw lines, oh maybe it's the other way around. :)
