This should be of use here. Now to find an equivalent for "loose vs. lose"....

Reminds me of that shirt Paris Hilton was wearing in one of her pictures.
'Your hot'
instead of
'You're hot'
What a dork. Actually, you'd think the folks who made the thing noticed as well. How many fledgling dorklettes now think 'you're' is supposed to be spelled 'your?' as a result?
-
Its about time you loose this holeyer-then-though latitude towards grammar and spelink.

Grammarian usually has little to contribute to a discussion and possesses few effective weapons. To compensate, he will point out minor errors in spelling and grammar. Because of Grammarian's obvious weakness most Warriors ignore him.

No way ~ you should always be anal about your spelling & grammar. And raise your kids to have proper spelling & grammar. ;)
-
I'm kinda good with spelling, but grammar is another story. I do remember to use the proper 'its' spelling though. :)
-
okay, i take that back just a little bit. it's nice to not use proper spelling or grammar sometimes.... like when typing in here...

The preferance for proper language usage is obvious:
If Einstein spoke like he were from deep woods Mississippi and said,
As yall get on up ta close to the speed of lat I meen faster than even Richard Petty, time a sloes down like a Alabama mule stuck in the briar. Things a git all strecht out, and yer clock'll tick as slow as molasses on a frosty January mornin. But den if you was ta look out and see the dagonn peeple a watchin ya back they will look like they was growin as ole as ole Muddy faster than ya could even bleeve.
Nobody would have paid attention to relativity.

bleev.... lol:rofl

O.k. where's HiTech at? We need his input on this topic...

I abhor the fact that many young girls consider her an icon.

You mean , "Where's Hitech?" what's the purpose of adding the at?

Hey look! Our gammarian of this thread has arisen! :D
-
That's not grammar, that's just a superfluous word :) and you misspelled grammarian.

IMO The ability to spell usually correlates to the intelligence of the person in question. Those who can't spell their mother language aren't usually the brightest bulbs on the ceiling, in my experience. English is probably the easiest language to spell anyway.
-
I'm not sure spelling is a reliable measure of intelligence. It might, however, be a measure of how much or little regard someone has for their audience. If the deficit is in education (it's someone who hasn't gotten the schooling yet, or dropped out before), that again is not a measure of intelligence, just a measure of... well, education.

Didn't you really mean to say...
O HiTech, HiTech! Wherefore art thou, HiTech?
Your sage gaze upon this cumbrous topic, I beseech.

Thats a handy reference. Im alway's making that mistake. Which is ridiculous really a's Im currently studying for a diploma in technical writing.
Have to go now, my dinner, its i's ready. It looks delicious'. Now if only someone would provide an ea'sy explanation for when you put an apostrophe after a word.:huh
-
One puts an apostrophe anywhere letters are missing. So if you abbreviate spelling to spellin (for flavor) it should be written as spellin'. Hope that helps with your writin'.
-
I kin read readin', but I can't read writin' 'specially when its wrote rotten.
-
Now to find an equivalent for "loose vs. lose"
Can you find one for "then" and "than"? It really bugs me to see people using "then" when they mean "than", and it seems to be happening more and more often. Never see "than" used instead of "then", though.

Just think with each extra ' that you type a little more energy is wasted.
Did that little ' really add anything to your understanding of the sentence or are we all intelligent enough to work out whats being said wether it is 'it's' or just its, did you notice a missing ' in what's? or did your brain melt at that point?
When we use its instead of it's when we mean 'it is' we save a whole ' and an i and over time the energy saving on the AH BBS alone could power a small town.
think about that next time you want to add a little '
ta ;);)

I kinda wish i could make a animated avatar. I would try to add that in. :D
-
I know very little about animation. It always goes way too slow even when I have the frame delay at .1 sec/frame. Guess my PC isnt good enough to process and save the animation at that speed.
-
dang ill like to know how to make a animated avatar.
-
JB88 is pretty good at that stuff me thinks.
-
 um.. Paging Mr. JB88. a idiot that doesn't know bout' animated avatars needs you :D

it's relatively easy I have one I'm working on right now for a good friend but if you pm me the details I'll see what I can do
or better yet teach you how :)

yay :D
Can you tell me how? :p

I recall being informed that an inanimate object cannot be possessive. Yet I find this from a possibly authoritative source.
So, I can say “a dog and its toy.” [Yes.]
The adjective possessive "their" isn't it used for human possessors only? [No, not just for human beings.]
Should I say “the dogs and their toys”? [Yes.]
or “the dogs and its toys?” [No.]
How about a table? Can I use the adjective possessive “its” for table even though a table cannot possess? [Yes.]
Can I say “a table and its four legs” or “a book and its cover?” [Yes, yes.]
How about “two tables and their eight legs?” [Yes.]
Can I say “I look at them” for “I look at the tables?” [Yes.]
Can "them" be used for inanimate objects? [Yes.]
The science of language was never my interest.
-
For years I had “it’s = it is” written in pencil on the top of my monitor. To this day I still have to picture that image to keep it straight.
-
I've never understood why you would use it's anyway. its only one more character, and one less key to hit to type it is.

It's less formal.
-
Remember:
If it's its, it's "its".
If it's it is, it's "it's".

That depends on what is is. ;)
