Got it on the shelf. It's a good read. MTO Mustang ops is a different world in many ways to the 8th AF out of England.
Interesting commentary on the 'competition' between the two AFs by Goebel after an 8th group passed through after the Russian Shuttle Runs.

And I read another 200 books on aviation in WW2. That was among the worst.
If I am not mistaken, that is the book where the author repeatedly tells the reader this is not the usual blood and guts rendition...etc.
Bah! Bring me blood and guts anyday, over raw stats.

Don't think the book you are talking about is this one. Don't recall any of that at all. Robert Goebel was an ace with the 31st FG. Basically he tells his story, talks about the transition from Spits to 51s, talks about the guys he flew with and the missions they flew. It's a biography not a 'data' type book.

Folks,
I've read this book many times, it is a great book, not a "data" book but a first person your in the cockpit type of book, well worth checking out.
