So, I'm in the process of doing a -40 skin for the good ol' Jug o' doom. Problem is, the plane I was planning on doing didn't exist as far as I can tell so I'm in need of suggestions for a skin. So if anyone has a silver, American -40 that they'd like to see in the game, post some pics and I'll see what I can do.

A nice 79th FG MTO Jug would be fun to see.  Kinda colorful too.

Mmmmmmm..... tasty pics. I'll see what I can dig up and I'm on it. If you guys have any more pics of that ship I'll do it. Now as for the link to Chow Hound, already the default skin... sorry.

In progress....

I'm going to change some of the shading on the wings, I.E. the flaps which are WAY over done. But so far I think it's coming out pretty good.

Only thing I'd suggest you look at is the blue tail color.  It's not the same blue as the star and bar blue.  It's lighter.

Can't wait to see it in game. I highly doubt I'd change the one I have now to that one but I'd defenitly fly with that skin from time to time.

Yeah, I noticed that once I put it in the game. The funny thing about AH is some colors in photoshop come up really light, others dark. With the issue I had on my P51 skin and the green being to light, I err'd on the side of going dark. Turns out it was WAY too dark. It's still in it's infant stages, I'll keep posting updates. Thanks for the advice and help, Guppy, I'd like to fly with you some night.

This is shaping up to be a great looking skin, IMX.

Check the size of your fuselage star insignia - it looks a tad too large - the bar shouldn't be as wide as those exhaust vents and should be offset slightly above it.

I was wondering about that, but I just went with the exact size as the default. I'm looking at some of the actual photos and I'm going to change it to reflect them. If anyone has a starboard side shot of this ship, it would be most appreciated. One with a topside view of the wings would be great too. :aok

I have already fixed the still super crazy shading on the flaps in this photo, not as harsh now, you'll be able to see next shot.

That shading looks OK to me.

Here's a small tip, which you already might know about anyway, but be sure to go into external view, zoom in and operate all the control surfaces while watching closely and make sure the panel lines line up correctly with where the 3D model control surfaces hinge.   That bit me on a few earlier skins I did.

Yeah, I had the same issue on my first P51 skin, it's one of the first things I check now. Thanks for the praise, hopefully it'll come out as good as I hope.

It was an all original, the finished product is under another post, just look for 78FG/86FG by JeepinAZ, I screwed up and typed it incorrectly, the post should read 79thFG/86thFS oops.

The only things I've retained from the default were the prop, tire, and some other misc. parts, I modified the zinc-chromate to look more accurate for the wheel wells, but everything else I did myself. Thanks, and I'm going to look into doing the other ships you guys post, so keep 'em coming if you've got a D-40 skin you want to see, send it my way and I'll try to make it happen.

I think it would be ANA True Blue.  Try 24, 100, 147 RGB (from Simmers Paint Shop) for the tail and horse logo and see how it looks in game.  I think that's going to be a closer color.

I went with a darker blue because of the profile drawing. The rondel is quite light and almost the same color as the blue in the tail and the horse. I figured they were darker than the picture showed, so darker it was. I'll try the lighter color as you suggested and see what happens, the finished product is in the other thread though.

You're right, the horse does look like the insignia blue of the roundel.  But the tail and canopy frame are definitely a different shade.  I guessed ANA true blue because it was a color that they would have used for those types of squadron markings.

That's the bad thing about old photographs, the color fades and changes, who knows what they used exactly. But that's where good deduction comes into play.
Dunno... looks too teal to me... lemme know what you think, but I think it should be a tad darker:

Think I'll put the horse back to the same as the insignia, but put the canopy and tail lighter shades, but a little darker than what I've got now.

I think that looks much closer to the picture Dan posted.  Now that I look at Dan's picture, I think the horse is the same color as the tail.  Sorry for being fickle.  Don't forget the canopy frame.

Its a great skin regardless, but I think the newer color is a more accurate one.

I'll make the canopy lighter but I'm still gonna darken up the tail & the horse just a tad, maybe 10%

Nice P47 reskin for the 79th FG in 86th FS skin. Let me know if you get it approved.
