Title: What is the difference between the P-38L and the J?
Post by: Jase on July 09, 2001, 03:05:00 PM
And why is the L modeled here and not the J?  I just find it strange that we have several models of several different types of planes modeled but only one 38.  Thanks for the info on L vs J in advance.

We only have 1 model of the Zero too.

Simply because the L is the latest and most competitive Lightning model. Good vertical performance and powerful engines... the J is a different story, but it's lighter too so it can turn a little better I believe.

J is faster & lighter, later models of J had dive flaps, early models did not.

J is green  :)

The only reason why the J is not in AH is because there is no way to pork it further  ;)  ;)  ;)  :D  :D  :D

Bring the J & the M to AH!

(and the P61 and the A-26!).

Remembering from Warbirds here... didn't the L model come with the hydraulic assist ailerons.. the J model without?  Thus the L had a much better roll rate than the J.  The J was a tighter turner though. I don't know about engine differences.

j had no hydraaulic boost

but teh j saved weight since it didnt need the hydraulics

the l had more powerful engines

i like the green of the j, there are some very nice j schemes

i really dont like the bare metal schemes too much until they get a proper reflecting look to them rather than white
