Today was my first day of C school for the SH-60-S helicopters. Anyways we got let out for a 10 minute break. Me and my buddy walked over to the water close to our school house and overlooking San Diego. I heard a large roar above me and looked up and saw a beautiful thing. Flying in close formation was a B-25, 2 P51s, and what looked to be a spitfire or a hurricane. I really wish I had brought my camera on base this morning. I figure they were doing something for the museum U.S.S. Midway or for the Red Bull Air Race taking part today and tomorrow.
A couple weeks ago I was riding the ferry from San Diego to the island at dusk with a lady friend when a group of 4 P-47s flew overhead in close formation for a ceremony held aboard the U.S.S. Midway. She was impressed I knew what they were.
A air show is coming up soon next month at the MIRAMAR base up north. I'll take lots of pictures of the air race tomorrow for yall and then again for the air show.
Overall a good day. :aok

FOUR P-47s? Wow, I'd love to see just one P-47 in flight.

Kermit, if you can, please take some pictures and post them. I'd love to see them since the Midway was the sister ship to the U.S.S Coral Sea (CVA-43). That was my father's ship. Sad to say, the Coral Sea was mothballed and is sitting in Oregon now.

Another update. Last night I was on duty and driving around on base. In the back corner of the base I found a small junkyard. In that junkyard is aircraft from almost every era. I saw what I thought is a f6f parked back there but im not so sure. Im trying to figure out a way to take pictures of them all and not get picked up by the black vans.

BlueJ, I know you're in the navy and all. However, now that you're working with navy aviation it might be prudent to learn how to properly spell "flyby". The word is self explanatory: The planes fly ... by. :)

I can honestly say I never used the word flyby before in my life besides vocally. Thank you.
