Its a frikin outrage that we allow that madman from Iran entry into the United States for anything other than serving time in a jail cell.
-
I didn't know we charged him with anything..
-
I'm all foir getting the UN out of NYC..has nothing to do with Iran. I'm just
getting frigging tired of getting slammed every time they decide to have their
little BS meetings and close the airspace around NY.
-
What's wrong with the President of Iran coming to the United States? Just because he gets a lot of bad press doesn't mean he doesn't have a right to come here and address questions the American People may have. So far all I've seen is a President of Iran that's tried to improve diplomatic relations with the US and resolve its issues through diplomacy. Instead I see a government and certain radical citizens of this country condemn the man and call him a terrorist because he's trying to use diplomacy. Do some research. Should we hate him because he doesn't bend over and do everything we say? Iran is a soverign nation and doesn't have to take orders from us.
-
The nutcase of Iran does not have the RIGHT to come to the U.S. and do or say anything.
Declaring the Holocaust to be a myth, and calling for the elimination of the Jewish people of Israel, as well as threatening the U.S., is NOT diplomacy.
And yes, we should send the United Notions (I spelled it that way on purpose) to Brussels, or anywhere else, at the earliest possible opportunity.

Who cares if he thinks the holocaust is a myth and hates Israel. He has stated he hates zionism, not Jewish people, those are two totally different things. There are orthodox jews against Israel and Zionism as they don't see it as part of their faith. Besides Israel and the United States have no business together, Israel can defend itself, it has over 100 nuclear weapons and doesn't need our help.
If he threatened us that certainly is concerning but by cutting off all ties of diplomacy will just lead to war which we should try to avoid until all other methods are exhausted.
I also favor the US pulling out of the UN and the UN moving overseas. Part of the reason for our failure is our "entangling alliance" in the UN security council. Stop wasting American dollars and lives for the benefit of other nations, bring our troops home to America where they belong.
-
Who cares? I do. I have friends and family who fought against those who perpetrated the Holocaust. To deny the Holocaust happened is to deny their efforts and sacrifices as being worthy. I have friends and relatives with strong attachments to Israel, never mind the fact that Israel is an ally of this nation. So I care. He has ZERO right to be on U.S. soil. And most certainly no right to be any where near the remains of the World Trade Center.
Further, there is little doubt he and his nation support and sponsor terrorism. They specifically support the terrorists causing the problems in Iraq. The party he represents sponsors OPENLY groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. As a supporter and sponsor of terrorism, his presence is completely unacceptable. He is no more welcome here than Hitler would be.
By the way, the dean of Columbia, who invited the nutcase of Iran to speak, refused to allow a U.S. citizen to speak on campus on his opposition to illegal immigration. This same dean also refused to allow an ROTC program at Columbia over the objections of the overwhelming majority of students who voted on the issue.

You're missing the point, our foreign policy is failing. It doesn't matter if your friends or your family has strong attachments to Israel. Nor does it matter if a man refused to respect the sacrifices of those who died fighting the holocaust. NO FOREIGN ENTANGLEMENTS. Thomas Jefferson said this hundreds of years ago, are you doubting his intelligence? I think his logic and his thoughts matter more to this nation than your friend's or family's love or support for Israel. They hate us because we support the state of Israel, because we meddle in their affairs. The more we do it the more we feed the fire. It's people that want to instill their will on others and force America to support a nation overseas that they like that is leading this nation down a dangerous path. Every war Israel gets dragged into causes us to get dragged in along with it. Israel is not the United States of America, their affairs are none of our business.
Let's face it, we didn't have as much dissent against our nation (if any) before we started getting involved in foreign entanglements and started policing the world, calling the shots on how the world should be. If you want to see an example of neutrality in action look at Switzerland. What do I know though, I guess it's better if we keep getting dragged into wars that our not any of our business. I guess it doesn't matter if more American boys and girls have to die for other nations.
And lastly, Columbia University is a private institution. They have a right to invite or reject anyone from speaking on their campus. They can't be forced to do so.
[EDIT] Don't think I think Iran's President is some great guy. He has said a lot of out there stuff but just because he has differing opinions from many world leaders doesn't make him a criminal or doesn't justify his assassination or even, god forbid, war against Iran. Many people are using the same logic to say that our President, George W. Bush, should be arrested and is a criminal. It isn't right either way but the bottom line is I respect someone's right to have their own opinion without being oppressed for feeling that way. No one is forcing you to adopt their opinion.

Instead of just saying he wants to destroy us why don't you produce some concrete evidence or a strong quote linking us to his "Let us destroy the United States of America" rhetoric. Remember, dissent is not an attempt to destroy us. To disagree doesn't mean he's out to kill us. And by the same token we're encouraging terrorism by keeping a foreign presence in the Middle East. Doesn't justify any terrorist actions but by staying there we're empowering radicals. If it wasn't for Israel and our dependence on stability in the Middle East for economic concerns the Middle East would be like Africa, meaning we wouldn't care about it and we wouldn't intervene at all.
-
Furthermore, the Iranian President is talking out of his ass. Do you have such little confidence in our own military and their ability to deter any threat from Iran? Just ignore him, and don't give his bully pulpit any power and his words will be useless. The more you hate him the stronger he grows, just like when you martyr someone, by hating him so much we give those who hate us the desire to stand behind him and have a leader for their hate.

I have always wondered how much flak the US gets for the UN HQ being there. Given the educational level in 3rd world countries I wonder how many consider the US the enemy by simple confusion with the UN.
IMHO stick the UN in some island somewhere. Peferable at sea level in a hurricane zone (been watching the History Channel stuff on the UN inaction in Rwanda).

So far you guys look not quite sane. Go check your "freedoms" and "liberal values".
This hysteria needs more media coverage in free countries. Russian 1st TV channel reports it only with a small gesture of disappointment.

Whats wrong is this little salamander has been arming insurgents since we got there, probably a thousand dead GI's thanks to IED's made in Iran. They stated out with the occasional 155mm arty shell, NOw they have scientifically shaped-charges that can even take out our newest APC's, to say NOTHING of Iran buying sniper rifles from Austria and giving them to afore-mentioned insurgents

Hi.
I never understood why the western media compare Mr. Ahmadinedjad with Mr. Adolf Hitler. But in these days of black and white thinking the so called intellectuals cant use any other comparison of enemy leaders than the good old devil Hitler.
Saddam was a second Hitler, Bin Laden was called a second Hitler and now Mr. Ahmadinedjad. A little bit boring but also dangerous, because a minor character like Mr. Ahmadinedjad is made to something important by comparing him with a major historical person like Mr. Hitler.
Mr. Ahmadinedjad is not the ruler of Iran. Not the iranian president rules the country but the so called Council of the Guardians.
When Mr. Ahmadinedjad made a law, which allowed women and men to visit together soccer games, this law was not accepted by the Council and so failed.
So much about his power. He is surely not a mighty dictator like Mr. A. Hitler or Mr. S. Hussein or others who had absolute power.
Also iranians are not against jews. Or at least the vast majority are not against jews. Obviously every nation has a small percentage of idiotic jew-haters - even Israel, where some weeks ago israeli Nazis (strange) were arrested by israelian police.
Iran is 2500 years old and in all this time a part of the iranians were jews and were and are considered as iranians.
The iranian constitution defines the follwing groups as true believers: muslims, christians, jews and zoroastrians. All these 4 groups have a guaranteed seat in the iranian parliament. And in Teheran a new synagoge (I hope the word is correct) was built and the jewish hospital in Teheran receives money from the state.
Not a typical behavior of a Hitler-ruled-contry.
No iranian politician - including Mr. Ahmadinedjad - has ever said that Iran would or should destroy or kill jews. Also not that Iran would destroy Israel.
If you find a statement where he said that Iran should attack or destroy Israel please send me a link. But not one of the wrong translations like MEMRI or other propaganda sites. I would prefer the original farsi text so I can check if he was really so stupid to say something like this.
Actually Mr. Ahmadinedjad is losing in the iranian inner politic. He lost last years important elections and his re-election is very doubtful.
So he is trying to make a great PR-show. And the whole thing yesterday will help him in his own propaganda.
I checked iranian news who perverted the whole events of yesterday.
So it was IMHO a big mistake to invite him to the university. It was obvious that despite everything what happened yesterday (even the funny homosexual statement) or vould happen yesterday the team around Mr. Ahmadinedjad would create a propaganda report to manipulate the people home in Iran. Especially those who would elect him. Not the middle-class of the iranians who could use the Internet to find out what really happened but the poorer people who will believe what the national news agency tell them.
Mr. Ahamadinedjad should be isolated. No interviews - like done on US-TV. No international visits. OK - I understand that the UN is a special case - but by making such a PR-hype you help his propaganda machine.
It would have been much better if he had been completely ignored by the news agencies and not interviewed and shown like a TV-star.

you sir are correct about some things but totally wrong about others, A: iranians do hate jews, jews that reamin in iran are jailed and or killed, i dare any jew to walk the streets with a star of david around thier neck.
B: the "israeli" nazis where actually all russians playing the poor imigrent role, guess what we have hundreds of thousand russian non jewish immigrants that falsify thier papers to make them seem jewish.
C: the president of iran made a direct threat to erase israel of the map(not something new:rolleyes: )
D: You are speaking from the exterior as i see by your location what is your knowledge of inter iranian politics that you can give such detail about how he is losing the iranian public, by the videos i have seen of the rallys he has held he is definatly not losing them.

Iran have always been a country of ethnical and religious diversity.

Falisifying papers to move to Israel?! What I see now is many Jewish families coming back to Russia from Israel and even more secure and stable countries like the US. That poor "nazi" morons are not even from Russia, they are from "former Soviet republics".

I see such tricks with translations all the time when Russian texts are translated. All he said was that he believes that Israel will disappear sooner or later. I don't share this point of view, but there is a certain difference, isn't it? I have no reasons to doubt Babek's words, just because I always see how such things are done with my country. And, surely, the same trick is sometimes used in Russian media when quoting English sources. So it goes.

AFAIK Babek has a family in Iran. He is probably the best unbiased source of information on Iranian affairs here.
Talking to people who visited Iran recently I made up a picture completely different from what you guys are fed. It's probably just as wrong as what 90% of Western people think of USSR/Russia.

The Jewish population in Iran is the second largest in the Middle-East, after Israel. One of Iran's MP's (Minister of Parliament) is Jewish. Ahmadinejad has never said that the Holocaust never took place. Ahmadinejad has never said that the Jewish people should be destroyed or anything similar. The state of Israel on the other hand...
The people telling you that Ahmadinejad says all these things are the same people that are telling you that Bush said "Saddam killed Mandela" (when it was obvious that it was a metaphor). Why do you believe them?
Because you want to.
-
Oh and on topic: Yes I agree. Move the UN out of the USA; it has no business being there at all. You can't have NATO though.
-
Russia is a vacuum wrapped in a nullity inside an abyss... thats it in a nutshell Boroda.

1st: I am an iranian and proud to be one. To say "THE" iranians hate jews is IMHO an insult for the people of Iran. It is correct that there are some idiots in every nation who mean that they are superior while other are inferior - just because of the color of the skin or the religion or the race or what ever nonsense.
I always considered these humans -(and I dont care which nationality they have) - as a shame for the human kind.
But also we should never make the mistake to say that a whole people of a nation do this or that.
THE iranians surely dont hate the jews. Most of them dont even know jews.
2nd: I live 8 months of the year in Germany and 3-4 in Iran. Some of my family-members live the whole time in iran others live in France, Switzerland or Canada. And although we are quite unhappy with the actual situation in Iran no one of us think that Iran would ever attack Israel.
As I mentioned Iran is actually not ruled by Mr. Ahmadinedjad but by the Council of the guardians. The member of this Coundil are high ranking mullahs and all corrupt. They want to become richer richer and not endangering their power by some stupid attacks which does not help Iran.
Also it should never be forgotten that there is a tradional enemy of Iran: Most of the arabs define the shi ite iranians as heretics - especially those of Saudi-Arabi but also the sunnite Al Kaida or the sunnite taliban.
Iran is already fighting a bloody guerilla war against the talibans who operate in the iranian eastern province or Belutschistan where an Al Kaida operative coordinates attacks against the shi ite iranians.
Also the Al Kaida tried to start a civil war in the iranian province of Khusistan in west Iran, where the iranian minority of arab heritage live.
So I doubt that Iran, if it really will get nuclear weapons one day, will use them for a suicide attack against Israel. To be honest Israel ist very useful for Iran, because it keeps the arabs busy.
I also have not seen a citation of Mr. Ahmadinejad where he say that Israel or the jews should be erased by the iranians or Iran. Dont misunderstand me - I surely dont like the man or the regime but it is interesting to see how some of his speeches were translated wrong or were interpretated wrong.
Mr. Ahmadinedjad is trying to get the support of the lower castes of the iranian society. And Iran is making a development where you have 2 parts of people. On the one hand the middle und upper classes, living in the large towns and on the other hand the poorer people living on the land.
Mr. Ahmadinedjad had failed in his reform-attempts. The poor people remained poor but he tries to get their support by financial aid. Also he tries to get support from the middle class by trying to raise national feelings.
If he fails with this attempt he will be washed away in the next election.
One last thing, because I am still sorry to read this part "The iranians hate the jews".
One of nephews, living in Iran, got the name "David". The officials tried to convince my brother to select another name, but he insisted.
All members of my direct family line have pre-islamic prenames (mine is Babek or Babak - the spelling depends where the name is used).
And after the revolution in the early 80ties I was ordered to the officials who wanted that I select another islamic name. I refused and we solved the problem in the classic way: We payed some mullahs and everything was fine.
The iranian way is quite complicated - I know - but at least I can tell you that iranian politic was never stupid. These mullahs are like many little Shahs. They have wealth and power and they want to keep it - not to risk it with a war.
Mr. Ahmadinedjad meanwhile is a man without power. He cant order wars or anything without the confirmation of the Council of the Guardians.
So - and this is my personal hope - I hope that Mr. Ahmadinedjad fails on raising support for his goals and that we change Iran to a democracy like the iranians nearly managed under Mr. Mossadegh 50 years ago.
Greetings to Israel with best wishes
Babek

All I have to say is. I do not support one more American life or dollar spent in defense of your country. Take care of yourself. You have a military, you have a nuclear arsenal, if you have a problem with a nation handle it yourself. Stop leeching off my country.
Oh and to you big, I guess I'll have to tell my Jewish friends I'm a Jew hater now because you said I hate Jews. That must make it true
[EDIT] Stop having this knee-jerk "Anti-Semitism!" reaction anytime someone doesn't stand in support for the state of Israel. Wake up, there are Americans who do not support our constant funding and undying support of Israel, no matter what they do. We should defend only OUR nation and our people. It is not our duty to police the world. George W. Bush is not the leader of the world, you need to respect other nation's rights to sovereignty.

Oh and to those of you who think we've been fighting the "War on Terror" correctly, keep supporting it. All you're doing is making this country more and more hated around the world, creating more terrorists every day. Not to mention that you're bankrupting our country. Congratulations. Our current government is apparently great at assessing a threat, especially when it comes from WMDs, look at how well well they assessed Iraq... LOL

Get your facts straight.
Zionism is defined as "A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel."
And I'm not going to stop about the WMDs, stop changing the reason we went to war. First it's WMDs, and when they're not found it's something about a cease fire, give me a break. Iraq posed no threat to us. Go enlist if you love this war so much.

Thank you! Please keep sharing your wisdoms with us!
Surely, a city where I live, only about 900 years old, about 15 million people, is nothing but a "vacuum" compared to your mid-West village that you probably call "town" by some strange mistake.
It's sooo funny to see people who always "know better", building their opinions on TV propaganda refracted by the load of prejudices and myths in their interaurial gangle.

Babek
Thank you for the insight

Who cares?
That'sa good little boy, swallow your party line just like you should. Let's forget, conveniently, that the United States has had it's big fat donkey rear in Iran's business for going on 45 years. We gave arms to BOTH sides of the Iran-Iraq war... staged a CIA sponsored coup to oust an ELECTED government, and have worked to destabilize and demonize an entire country for one idiot's words. ... All this when the populace of IRAN is overwhelmingly PRO west and was the only country in that region to hold mass vigils for the attacks of 9-11.
