Russian Military Intelligence Analysts are reporting today that one of the United States most secretive spy satellites, the KH-13, targeting Iran was 'destroyed in its orbit' with its main power generator powered by the radioactive isotope Pu-238 surviving re-entry and crashing in a remote region of the South American Nation of Peru, and where hundreds are reported to be ill from radiation poisoning.
more, http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/feedback/20-09-2007/97410-american_spy_satellite-0

Lol the reporter is living in the same parallel universe as Boroda.
-
who cares who's it was, or who shot it down.
The real shame is iran is still uneffected by this.
See thats the problem, we just dont give the people what they want.
Noo..we drop the stuff waaay off mark, when iran's been cryin' for the stuff for years, and we missed the chance to radiate them to boot!.
Shucks.
-
pretty sucky radiation as I have been watching the news for strange deaths in Peru since this occured.
that dumb spy was in the hospital bald by now when the Russkys whacked him with radiation. Those peruvians are still practicing animal husbandry(the bad kind)with llamas and dreaming of the day they are pushing a lawnmower in Santa Barbara

It is interesting to note, too, that Barksdale Air Force Base is where the United States President was 'ordered' to report to on September 11, 2001 by the United States Air Force Strategic Command prior to his being 'transferred' under 'armed escort' to Offutt Air Force Base Strategic Command Center near Omaha, Nebraska, where the first 'truce' between Americas War Leaders and its Military Forces was 'negotiated' by billionaire Warren Buffett as intermediary between the rival power blocs.

Goodness gracious, I could not have made this garbage up if I had to :rofl

Ok... I got to ask boroda... with stories like this...
How can you believe anything you read in that paper? I mean... that would be enough for me to ignore it as a news source.
Here we have tabloids...."elvis is alive" "giant 3 headed dog attacks Texas town" that kind of thing... we all just laugh and ignore them while glancing at the headlines while waiting to pay for our groceries.

I thought I saw in one of these threads that even Boroda said that Pravda was a joke?

I am repeating it 38th time: "pravda.ru" is just an internet tabloid with an English version, and it doesn't have anything common with old "Pravda" newspaper, issued by CPSU Central Committee. The newspaper called "Pravda" now is different from both above-mentioned, in the 90s it was bought by some Greek businessmen, sold and resold, and now I rarely see this "mustard-plaster" anywhere.

The Russians know exactly where President Bush was on 9/11/2001 yet couldn't find the Kursk, their own submarine, for days after its accident?
Western media reports are stating that the US spy satellite debris hitting Peru was caused by a meteor, but which, according to these reports, would be 'impossible' as the size of 30-meter crater, if caused by a meteorite, would have hit the ground with about as much energy as 1 kiloton tactical nuclear weapon, and which would have been recorded by the seismic stations around the World.
BUT Wait if a main power generator powered by the radioactive isotope Pu-238 surviving re-entry and crashing in a remote region of the South American Nation of Peru, left the same 30-meter crater BUT nothing was recorded by seismic stations? Them crafty Americans! What will we think of next?

I guess there are more Americans reading Pravda.ru then Russians. Does anyone seriously read NYT daily, not weekend issues?
BTW, many Russians read http://www.inosmi.ru every day. It's a site with translations from foreign press. Believe me, sometimes I am so shocked that I have to look at original articles to be sure what they translate was indeed printed on paper.

Did y'all see the byline on that article?

Her western subscribers are her sources? Bwaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaa aa!:lol

As usual you are either misinformed or just refracting the facts in your usual stereotypical "russians can't do anything good" way.

I have heard that seismic station directors had an urgent meeting, and a personal letter to you is on the way, they want to apologize for not informing you immediately.
Your post is absolutely brilliant. Thank you.

I hadn't meant to delete that post. was saying that nobody takes the times seriously: doesn't matter if it's the daily edition or the weekend edition.

Most Russians I know that bother reading Russian copy read Noviya Russkiya Slova--Which is actually printed in New York.
Even my grandfather dropped Pravda years ago, and he's still waiting for the second coming of Lenin.
-
A man checks into a Moscow hotel and upon entering his room the room service asks if there is anything he needs to make him more comfortable...
He replies "I would like some clean Lenin..."
She reples "We wanted this many decades ago and now yer Putin me on?"
*I need more material to work with.... or just a walk to the end of the pier Andropov... Stalin for applause here...*

Frankly speaking I don't know any Communist newspapers here. Zavtra and Duel are marginal nationalistic leaflets, but sometimes really funny. Long time ago I used to buy National-Bolshevik Party's "Limonka", amazing in it's sarcasm and cynicism, but now NBP joined loosers from "Other Russia" and Edward Limonov finally went off the rocker after 2 years in prison.
I can't name any decent newspaper in Russia that isn't yellow as urine and/or even pretending to be unbiased. Even Izvestia got sold several times and I don't buy it anymore.

Thanks :) I don't care about this silly things, it's only the Net. What I really like is that many people here try to understand the opposite side.
I hope you understood the joke bout tickets, blin :) Sorry, I tried to answer with a Russian joke playing with English words. And someone here doesn't know about time-zone difference between Russia and the US :D

Ok, I missed that reply. I'm still left wondering if it is the same entity that was Pravda for the USSR. He said it was sold and bought. What was sold and bought, the original state run paper?

Newspapers are like XIX century's news source. Also, they are good if you want to see opinions. You just have to keep in mind who owns this very representative of a "free press". We have 5 TV channels that make serious news programs, plus at least three Russian news radios and "Radio Liberty" (it's like a flashback from Cold War). Just compare and think. Just as it is everywhere else. And many people who have cable or IPTV can watch foreign news, CNN and BBC World are included in almost any cable package, as well as Deutsche Welle and some French news channel. And Euronews in Russian are broadcasting 24/7 in Moscow.

Well, Google gives different results if you search from the US and from Russia. I hate it.
There are many news-sources on the Net, including blogs. I read at least a dozen blogs daily, again - from different sides.

Good idea. I'd prefer beer bottles. Depends on social target group.
We, who are in their 30s and older, have a good experience of Soviet life, and most of us (of those who are interested in news) understand that any media is a manipulation tool, and there is no such thing as a "Free press".
My Grand-Aunt, she's 89 now, was a school principal in Chernovitsy, Western Ukraine. She always subscribed to "Pionerskaya Pravda", a newspaper for kids, because all the Party Line issues were explained briefly and in easy language, so even kids will understand.
Did you notice how often I ask what is Western media opinion on some events? It's quite interesting, especially to listen to the people, not to read translated articles at http://www.inosmi.ru .

Pravda never was state-run. It was issued by the Party.
Last time I saw a Pravda issue was when I helped one aged scientist with his PC, he was a CPRF member, so probably it's again a Party press organ. It was full of articles about "genocidal regime" and so on. I'll probably vote for Communists in the upcoming elections, but reading their press is too much for me.

Ok... now I get it. You have 5 news stations that are russian and some german ones or whatever... so you believe these 4 or 5 over and above all others because... because why?
They are the only ones that tell the truth?
Perhaps their reporters are the only ones on the planet with no agenda?
No matter how I look at it.. you seem to be picking and choosing your news source based on if it tells you what you want to hear or not.

I only mentioned channels that have their own news programs.
Lazs, how many news sources do YOU have? Are you optimistic enough to think that they are unbiased? News channels I mentioned have different points of view, have different news issues and cover different events. They are controlled by different financial and political groups, mostly centrist (viva Putin!) and liberal-right like REN-TV. Radios like Echo of Moscow give news coverage that sometimes beats russophobic BBC World. Unfortunately we don't have any serious media controlled by left/conservative groups and parties. That's what I told Neubob.
If you think there is some media that gives you pure truth and nothing but truth - then you could probably be an ideal Soviet citizen. Even in Soviet times people listened to short-wave radio to get an alternative information source.
When I watch evening news on 1st channel I try to understand what their news selection and opinions really mean for country and me. It's an interesting game.
I didn't expect such questions from you. It's a shame we couldn't meet a year ago when Wolfala invited me to his wedding...

Boroda, I know this is a tall request, asking for much speculation and deep thought, but what would the world be like today if communism had prevailed and the west collapsed to be consumed by the Soviet Union?

It could not win, mostly because USSR abandoned an idea of "global revolution" when Trotsky got kicked, and the main goal was to keep the country secure from invasions. 62 years of peace that we have now is something never seen before in Russian history.
Anyway, if USSR had won the Cold War, the world today probably could be worse even then what we got now. I mean if today the only global power could be USSR not the US. I have said it several times here already. Kinda funny posting the same things over and over again...
Regardless to what could happen, better or worse, I'd do anything I can for my country. /*I am confused with English tenses now, but I hope you understand me*/

No problem understanding you Boroda. Nationalism isn't inherently a bad ideal in my opinion. So long as it doesn't supplant the innate allegiance we all owe to our creator, imo.

boroda... Ok.. we agree... one news source is bad. I don't really watch the news because.. not only is every paper and station agendized but... they put in so much worthless filler that you wouldn't have enough time in a day to read/see/hear enough of em to get perspective.
I have the same internet as you.. I look at both or all ten sides of any issue that is important to me.
I don't see how you can have your view of history based on your current view of news... How can you believe the soviet unions "history" over that of the rest of the world? Surely.. if you listened to short wave as you claim... you must have seen how agendized the soviet news of the time was... so why believe what they claim is your history? they lied when they were making history... why wouldn't they lie about it now?
So far as socialism... communism.. they are the greatest evil that I could imagine for me. Right up there with a dictatorship. I am an individualist. I would rather starve than take food from a socialist or communist government.

Hehe, Boroda:
"the main goal was to keep the country secure from invasions"
One big momma of an invation in 1941, - which one was the closest one before?
Also, after WW2, which bordering country could afford to muster an invasion into the USSR? I mean, since the USSR gobbled up as many of the bordering nations as possible in the first place....
And the military defensive plans as well as emerged invasion plans after WW2? I have not found any yet.

Imagine USSR not taking so-called "Baltic states" in 1940. It means Germany taking them, starting a war from only 40km from Leningrad.
Before that - look how much we lost in WWI, in 1905, before that we had a full-scale invasion in 1854, plus many small wars securing our borders in Central Asia after Crimean (Eastern) war. We had a full-scale almost "total" wars every 50 years or so. My Mother was born in 1945, a first generation not to see wars in their lifetime...

For the first time we had a buffer line between our country and the enemy. And about attack plans - the most famous was "Drop Shot". It meant killing at least 10 million Soviet civilians in a first week of hostilities. It was de-classified in 1978.
Given the starting conditions USSR could never win over the Western side. Soviet leadership understood it very well. It was a miracle that we managed to stand against them for 50 years.
Now Western politicians follow what was said by mrs. Thatcher back in the late 80s, that Russia needs only 30 million people to secure oil fields and pipelines, others have to disappear. It's a new plan "Ost"... I we didn't have our Strategic Missile Corps - they'll burn us immediately, without any doubts. Even here you can see how deep the hatred is imprinted...
Thanks for a hijack ;)

Pravda/Pravda.ru, same thing when it comes to reporting truth, or untruth as the case may be.
-
Pravda means "truth" in Russian, so it's a joke in the first place :D
Anyway, this:
"For the first time we had a buffer line between our country and the enemy"
Buffer line is a cute way to put a new name onto countries that in many cases got swamped and sucked out by the old USSR. And of course very necessary by a country that never got conquered.....
Now, - the Baltics, Poland as well as E-Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, then USSR allied Romania, Hungary, and some spungy Balcans, oops you're down to the Black sea already, from the Baltic. That leaves only neutral Sweden as an untouching buffer, Finland however is a tougher one, and there is a slight geographical touch with Norway....
And surely, back in WW2, it was necessary to gobble up the Baltics. Would never have been rational to have them allied, skip fighting the Fins (which was a great squander of resources) as well as feeding the Nazi war machine on raw materials. Or what enemy was there? The British maybe, but stuck with Germany between.
Always think the USSR "defense" plan was a bit rude, that's all :D
