Title: Video Camera
Post by: Raptor on September 27, 2007, 02:24:17 AM
This is not AH related but I was wondering, are there any products that convert video tape to digital format for computer editing? For example I have a 6 year old camera that records on the mini-tapes, is there something I can buy to convert that? If so can I get it as an internal drive?

You need a video capture card. The software you use with it MUST support importing analog video - very important. Some of the available software will only import digital.

All you need is a Mini-DV camera and a firewire (1394) port in your PC. PCI firewire board costs about $5 now, plus $2 for a connection cord.

If you want to "digitize" old VHS tapes - just connect your VCR to a camera input and it will transfer it on the fly to your PC.

Yep, even the cheapies convert very well.  They also TAKE digital movies as well.  What a great deal!
