Title: Freezing and crashing.
Post by: Tilaron on September 27, 2007, 05:00:55 PM
Ok, earlier today I downloaded this game, installed it fine and set up my controls. I went to the training server with a friend of mine and we just had a good laugh for about 2 hours, and then decided we should try out a battle arena, so we tried all of them at least once, but each time I either crashed to desktop with no error messages, or the game froze and I had to alt tab, OR the game COMPLETELY froze up my computer, and I had to pull the plug out of the PSU. Now so far this has only happened in proper battle servers, and not the training server.

Someone must know a logical explanaition, please?

Yep, very useful technical support here...

Sometimes postings like yours get overlooked. I'm sure someone will respond that's had experience with similar issues. A shorter path to some help might be to email support@hitechcreations directly. Of course now that it's Saturday it will take til Monday likely for that to get a response. Folks here in the forum are pretty helpful and hitech's support is pretty good.

In the meantime you may wish to search this part of the forum for topics that might be related and/or shed some light on your problem.

Did you use the search feature and try to find an answer to your problems. or did you come in here and post a question and expect everyone to fall all over themselves trying to help you out?

First off, you need to post a lot more information here. You post is basically like calling an auto shop and saying there is a "whirrring noise" whats the problem?

Did you have any noticeable delay when entering the training arena? All screens load immediately for me, there is never a pause.

Did you go directly from the training arena to the other arenas?  I have heard that sometimes there is a problem with a memory load when switching arenas.

Did your friend have the same issues? Where you in the "online" arenas, or where you hooked up with a LAN, or head to head with your friend?

Running DXdiag from the run prompt on your computer "copy and paste" the first third of the saved text here is always a good idea.

It all loads fine. No pausing prior to entering any arenas. I've tried going from the training arena to the battle arenas, and straight into the battle arenas from a fresh restart, but it is always the same. About 5 minutes into being in one of the arenas, it will (9 times out of 10) freeze completely (the other 1 time being a simple game crash which alt-tabbing works in). My friend doesn't have the same problems, and we've only played online.

Hehe. Just finished the optimizing, only had to add the DWORD reg which I already knew how to do anyway (long story short, I spent about a year fixing a friend's computer, he refused to let me format .. viruses are a hell of a pain..)

Just gonna restart, see if I can last any longer. If I can't, I'll try the compatability setting. If that still doesn't work, I'll just cry myself to sleep tonight :(

You may want to download all of the MA terrains from the home page. It seems like your automatic terrain downloader might be eating it for some reason. If that turns out to be the case, we can troubleshoot that.

Tilaron,
I was having the same sort of prob, install AMD optimizer and try that.If your still having a problem, run the game in windows 98 mode.
The optimizer patch solved my issues:aok

I already tried the AMD optimizer ..

Ok, so I tried everything suggested, and the only difference now is that I last about 10 minutes, instead of 5. Still, the training arena isn't giving me any problems. I guess I'm just sol.

First thing that struck me was this bit:
Network Tab: The registry information for the DirectPlay application 'Codemasters' is missing or damaged. You should reinstall that application.

Could be a reason why you are having issues with network gaming, but would have thought that would affect all of it, not just the ma's etc........unless the information that would normally be written there is being cached, which when it fills your memory up etc, is causing your game to crash.........

Possibly reinstall directx and see if that clears that particular indication up?

you didn't say if you downloaded the terrain maps individually or not. The map download may be giving you trouble. If your letting the auto downloader download the maps your antivirus may be chocking on it, be sure to turn your antivirus off.

Also post a bit more of your DXdiag, driver issuse may be a problem, but we won't know with out seeing which drivers you have loaded.

This is what I tell everyone since I used to have the same problem.Try unchecking hardware vertex processing, optimize terrain, and optimize objects from the video setting on the Aces High main menu. That should fix your problem.

Hm, that seemed to fix it. Got my first 2 kills in an AA gun, and one more after some guy kept trying to ram me, which he managed twice.. which is pretty lame tbh :/
