Title: Motion Simulator? How would this work...
Post by: Warspawn on September 28, 2007, 07:31:26 PM
With AH?

I'm thinking of building a simpit and incorporating this within it when/if it becomes available...

Cruise the site and let me know what you think!

I'm curious how they're going to live up to the promise of delivering the 'same motions' like the players and drivers in the movie. 4G accelerations er.. might be a bit hard to achieve on a stationary chair.. :D

I think a sim chair like that could do a decent job of simulating a somewhat bumpy road, and maybe even casual-normal traffic acceleration, deceleration and cornering.  Anything beyond a fraction of a gee for beyond a fraction of a second really isn’t going to happen though.  Indy car loads would be a joke; complicated 3D aviation loads would be even more impossible.

Any decent low rider could put together a nice system for your chair, and probably do it cheaper.

It looks interesting, but here's the one I'm saving up for:

I think this rig would be even better if the seat had a subwoofer in it, like the old Thunderseat had.  :D

Oops, forgot to mention that this unit was developed starting with an older hombuilt simulator called the Joyrider. The Joyrider was made from PVC pipes. You can still get plans for the Joyrider if you are so inclined.

Isn't there a Buttkicker something you could put into that dreamflyer rig?  Looks nice; birthday's comming up and we've just sold our business, lol!

Now to convince the wife that it's an essential part of my office space we're redecorating...

This is cool. Did you google for the plans on the Joyrider? I don't know that I would purchase the dreamflyer. Other then the center mounted joystick I think I could make this myself.

Here ya go:   :aok

The guy who builds the Dreamflyer started with this, and obviously has modified it a great deal. I think even I could build a Joyrider. It does look kind of clunky next to the Dreamflyer though...;) ...just based on looks alone it might be easier to get official approval for the Dreamflyer.  :aok

I looked at these cockpits and all I can say is :O :O :O

These guys look like they are way more into building cockpits than they are into flying cartoon planes. For myself, it will have to be a lot simpler and maybe a bit less obtrusive looking than these rigs are...:lol
Anyone here have experience building a motion-simulating cockpit? I would like to hear the details and see some pics if you have. I have 2 old Thunderseats that I got off ebay, and was hoping to use them in a full motion rig such as the Joyrider.
