Title: Ju-87
Post by: derkojote23 on September 28, 2007, 07:59:05 PM
The biggest reason the JU-87s memory lives on with any thing less then scorn to this day is its ability to make people on the ground scream and run in fear at just the SOUND of its dive. It was fitted on prepuce with a special cowling that made the distinctive howling noise that was its signature. The sound of its dive was enough to make tank crews abandon there tanks and dive in a ditch. It drove people nuts and was in the later part of the war its best asset. The 87s nickname given by the Russians was the screaming death. Could you give it its voice? Pleas!

The model 87 we have didn't have the dive siren IRL.

Sirens were only used in early war, not late war. Their psychological effect was short lived and vastly exaggerated by propaganda.
Some of that exaggerations still circulate today, as you posting clearly shows.

Here is a siren sound that I made for the JU87. Just place it in the file for that aircraft.

Let me know what you think.

The siren to the Russians soon became a early warning sound to get to cover.

I always though that towards the end of the war, its best asset was its ability as a dummy

It may have only been effective in the early war, and it may have been exaggerated by propaganda, but during the Polish and French campaign the psychological effect of this aircraft was real, and, it was a really good dive bomber. Its signified a new kind of war that the enemy really hadn't figured out yet and it did terrify them.

The beginning of the end of the Stukas aura was in the Battle Of Britain. But the airplane still went on to blow up a lot of warships and it flew well in Africa.

I imagine by '43 each side was so freaked out over Jabos and dive bombers that a siren was useless cause everyone was watching the sky so much.

I would like to have the siren sound when the Stuka dives as well. The problem with adding the sound to your sound folder is that you are the only one that hears it.   I want the GVer I am dropping on to be able to hear it as well.

I think if you blend the siren with the engine noise you will be able to hear it when you are in a GV.
You could convince HTC to include a external siren noise for the Stuka so when one dives on you you get a warning to find cover.
Basically, you must have the siren to be able to hear it, if you want to hear it from an enemy Stuka I think it has to be ext, I am not sure I just made the siren cause I couldnt find it and didnt feel like whining for one.
Anyway, if you think it is good tell me, I like to know what people think of my precious!

That is what I was actualy wanting Panzer, BTW good job on the sound work for yours. Any way, Yes I was thinking more on the lines of not just the piolit hereing it, but have it more for the bennafit of the ppl below. Yes there is no way in heck any of the ppl playing will ever realy feel the tearror thoes that fought in that war did, Not even my stint in the sand box was close, and moast ppl in the game dont care for realisum honistly, I mean immagin Tigers moded coreckly,, faster turit turns more accurit and deadly at all ranges with penatration rates on its armor properly dun, OMG it would ruel the field. Back then the Tiger and Panther had a 5 to 1 kill rate avrage aginst all others and the Panthers may have been higher. I diegress, The sound me and you are piktuering would be cool. But the point is lost on most. Im hopeing that HTC will consider it though it would be cool. Thanks Panzer for seeing my point.:aok

The Tiger tanks and Panther used the superior range and power of their guns, when they are at such great ranges super speed turrets are not important. The Tiger still has very good armor, I have found it to be a great tank. You must understand the Firefly is not the average Sherman, it is much better, a fine match for a Tiger.
If you ask me the Tiger is best for a defensive role while the other tanks are best for storming areas.

Perhaps but read the book "Tigers In The Mud". It is quite enlightning and is the first hand account by a Tiger Ace.
