Title: Done to death
Post by: TalonX on September 30, 2007, 07:50:06 AM
Someone had some fun.......incredible no one caught it.

It's impossible that the designer didn't know what he was doing.

I guess it is not impossible...I doubt it was on accident though...

So, now they modify it. Only after it became apparent on google and some neurotic people decided to complain about it.

Come on.. it's not THAT horrible thing. It's a building! It resembles a swastika!

How could these people shocked by such a thing ever go to India? They'd get a heart seizure just from the number of swastikas around there. They'd probably wonder where's the concentration camps and why nobody has brought it to their attention that swastikas are widely used in India - Where are swastikas, there must be nazis!

Geez.... people should get over it, it's a symbol that's been in use for longer than the USA has existed and one man can't have caused that much bad with a symbol. You don't kill with a symbol, nor can you rid a symbol that's used by millions of people in their belief.

If they're really so worried of evil dictators, perhaps they should look no further than the white house. Bush Jr. has done more evil than the symbol ever. It's the man, not the symbol.

i hate PC people

EDIT: Because their are tools that have driven past this building their entire lives and someone on the internet says it resembles a swatika and they are all of a sudden offended by the building they drove by their entire lives, i hate em!

Spending $600,000 to disguise it is ridiculous. Not 6 feet from where I'm sitting is a book published in the 1920's entitled "The Ancient World". On the spine under the title is a very prominent swastika. The book was printed in the U.S. and has nothing to do with Nazis or Germany. The swastika is an ancient symbol that's been in use for many centuries - long before national socialism was even thought of.

My point of view is that instead of spending that $600,000 on our men and women on Iraq and Afganistan getting some much needed new equipment its going toward solar panels and sidewalks so the building is PC for the civilians.

Also saw recently that Dept. of the Navy is remodeling that building to shift the shape from its current.

Omigosh, I better hire some aerial photography of my house just in case something on my little not-quite-quarter-acre is offending anyone invading my privacy from the skies I don't own.

If the Swastika is evil and anything adorned with one is evil, is this triple evil?

as much as i agree with you,

let me play devils advocate..

lets say I am a concentration camp survivor and through my experiences i have assosciated this symbol with anti-semitism (rightfully so in some cases)and with death and have taught my kids so.What would i or my children think if i saw a USN building knowingly built in this fasion.

;)

Don't worry, BlueJ1. I'm sure Haliburton will get the money anyway.

Perhaps the architect was a Hindu...  or a practioner of Janism.  The symbol is holy to them.

Or perhaps the building was built in four stages and that is how four L shaped building best fit on the lot.

I doubt the architect was a nazi.

It could been also built by a finn who was proud of the finnish airforce! :p

FAF has proudly served Finland since 1918 and still goes strong without a change to one of it's squadron flags.

You won't get to pry that insignia off of our air forces without going over me first - and thousands of others. It will not be modified due to complaints by PC's.

Ya know, if they level the wings it will look just like the Confederate Flag.
Al Sharpton is on standby.

The buildings to the west of it look like bombers flying toward or away from the BEQ in question. But no one cares about that.

Considering that symbol is over 3000 yrs old, I don't see any hidden meaning n 4 L shaped blds put together like that.

If anything...  I think Hindu more than German when I see one.

Whole stupid thing is blown out of proportion.

I tried to find them, but thats a pretty large area. Does anyone have co-ords of these infamous landmarks?

While looking around I did see 2 S's, an H, a T, an L, an I an E and a close resemblance of an R. I think there is more to this naval base than the Navy wants to admit :noid

Search for San Diego. Then go west of the city to the "island" of Coranado. The island tapers off into a narrow strip. Theres a 4 lane highway that leads south on this strip. Right below the major part of the island where the strip starts theres a naval Amphibious Base on the East side of the 4 lane road. Its on the main land side of the strip. Maybe a 1/2 mile from the major part of the island.

Agreed. As you all can see each arm extends to a parking lot. Each wing has a assigned parking lot. Lots of Sea Bees and Marines live in the barracks. Only one floor of one of the wings is Air Dales like myself.

The shape also allows for your room to get the sun at some point in the day. The shape is also great for air circulation. During the summer the wind off the ocean blows into each room. This was until they installed AC in each room.
