Title: Jesse James and Bob Ford
Post by: Airscrew on October 01, 2007, 11:28:29 AM
The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.... Or as I call it "How I spent $20 to take a Nap in an Uncomfortable Chair"...

I really wanted to like this movie, I thought Brad Bitt did a good job of making Jesse James look psychotic and paranoid.   Casy Affleck was also good.   The movie was just too damn long, I actually fell asleep for a couple of minutes, and my bellybutton started to hurt from sitting so long.    If you go see this movie take a couple of Vivrian or No-doze and an extra cushion for the seat... After watching the movie though I do want to find some books on Jesse James and Bob Ford.

Bob Ford was a coward, and the Pinkertons were jerks out to kill. Simply put, straightforward truth.

The remake was good and the original was good but for different reasons.
Dont go see the remake and expect the original though

Wasn't aware there was an original.  The Mrs and I went to see 3:10 to Yuma a couple of weeks ago, and I thought it was pretty good actually (although I have always like Horse watermelon and Gunpowder movies).

Bale (sp?)  was good in the role, although I might have recast Crowes part.

All In all though a good "Duster", I would buy this movie.

So, it was a remake of an older Duster?  Who was in it?  I'd like to see it.

cheers,
RTR

the basis for the movie was a short story titled "three-ten to yuma" written by elmore leonard.  it was a very well gripping and well written short story.

the first movie 3:10 to yuma starred glenn ford and van heflin.  the problem with reading a good short story then watching the movie is that I always end up disappointed with the script and how the events in the movie play out.  this story is no different.  if you want to enjoy the movie don't read the story first.

I read the story and watched the original movie... I liked both..  I think the movie was pretty good and ford was beyond good.

I don't think a bunch of brits would make it better.

(yeah, I know, there USED to be a difference between ausies and brits)

Glenn Ford is (or was) of of those guys that I enjoy his movies alot but they never seem to get as much play as others.   I like his westerns and war movies the best...

"The Western is a man's world and I love it."
"If they tried to rush me, I'd always say I've only got one other speed, and it's slower."

3:10 to Yuma is not the first Glenn Ford movie that was remade, I can think of another....
