Title: Widescreen? ..... again
Post by: golfr on October 01, 2007, 12:59:38 PM
Probably going to need to upgrade my 19" ViewSonic as it's taking a long time to put a picture up after turning it on. I think it's on its way out. I was thinking of a 22" widescreen.

I currently run 1280x1024 with the high res pack.

I have searched and read about widescreens but did not find the information I wanted.

I understand running AH widescreen will crop the picture on the top and bottom.  I like being able to see the gauges without having to do some sort of manipulation. Is there a way to run AH with side bars to get the full picture? When I get SD (4:3) signals on my 16:9 60" TV, I get the side bars. Can computer monitors do this?

Pardon my ignorance, are computer monitors native 4:3 like SD TV or 5:4? Because at the 1280x1024 that I'm running (max I can select), that's 5:4. The resolutions I can select are EITHER 4:3 OR 5:4. Which one is "native" and/or better? The lowest I can select is 800x600 (4:3).

My video card is a Radeon 9800 Pro (128 mb).

Thanks.

Actually you wont get cropped.
The sides will get stretched.
