Finding this story highly interesting, I went back and listened to the Limbaugh show for the first time in years. I found myself amazed again at how Limbaughs freakishly clever mind works. Reid, otoh, is an simple minded dolt who really needs to pick his fights better, or avoid fights altogether, unless the victim has BOTH hands tied behind their back.
To accuse Limbaugh of being unpatriotic is beyond a stretch, its a leap into a bottomless pit.
I find myself enjoying the EIB network all over again, thanks Harry :)

It only takes a a mere minute or two for any logical person to conclude that the democrats in congress are losing their ability to create absolute failure in Iraq.

I dislike Rush Limbaugh, but I DESPISE Harry Reid. The fact that he spent time on the Senate floor with this crap drives home the opinion that he needs to go. Along with 90% of the rest of them on the Hill.

Rush is unpatriotic, he is for some country, but certainly not for the America I know and love.

Rush is a pompous a**, and most of the time I can't stand listening to him. But definitely sees through most of the BS that others toss around ~ and doesn't mind taking the hits when he calls them on it.

If his being Anti Socialist makes him unpatriotic to the current trend in this nation, then so am I :D

umm yea wasn't Rush limprod on the calling everyone else unpatriotic bandwagon in the build up to the Iraq war? This is of course before he was busted with hookers and drugs.

what? Crockett, I'd REALLY like to know where you get your info of the day

This here's funny, and likely won't get any publicity
link (http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/09/30/abc-reported-phony-heroes-three-days-rush-limbaugh-did)
Marvelously, this story was aired on Monday, September 24, just two days before Limbaugh made his comments. And, as noted in a NewsBusters posting by the MRC's Brent Baker, the report even mentioned the same "phony soldier," Jesse Macbeth (pictured to the right), that Limbaugh did on his program Wednesday.
Will media attack ABC with the same zeal they did Limbaugh? Maybe even more important, will House Democrats offer a resolution to condemn Ross, Gibson, and everyone involved in ABC's report?
While you ponder, what follows is a full transcript of this segment (video available here, h/t Rush Limbaugh.com):
CHARLES GIBSON, HOST: (Voiceover) 'A Closer Look" tonight at phony heroes. A famous recruiting slogan once touted the Army as a place to be all you can be. But increasingly, scam artists are posing as the war heroes they never were, claiming credit for acts of courage in Iraq and Afghanistan. Federal officials have launched a crackdown. Operation Stolen Valor they call it. Tonight, our Brian Ross investigates.
GRAPHICS: BRIAN ROSS INVESTIGATES
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Voiceover) At the Washington State Capitol in Olympia this year, a Marine Corps Color Guard included a Marine chaplain to deliver the opening prayer. But authorities later discovered that the Marine chaplain, Captain Reggie Buddle, was not a chaplain.
JEFFREY SULLIVAN (US ATTORNEY)
I think he went to seminary school and flunked out.
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Voiceover) Nor was a Buddle a captain, nor had he earned all the medals he wore. In fact, Buddle had never been in the Marines, even though he had officiated at numerous Marine weddings, baptisms and funerals.
JEFFREY SULLIVAN (US ATTORNEY)
It was devastating to the people who had relied on him.
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Voiceover) At a time when tens of thousands of US soldiers have put their lives on the line in Iraq and been honored for their sacrifice and courage, federal prosecutors have had to launch a crackdown on phony heroes.
JEFFREY SULLIVAN (US ATTORNEY)
They want something that they didn't earn. They didn't have the guts to go and do it themselves.
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Voiceover) Authorities say many of the phony heroes make up their stories, so they can get free treatment at veterans' hospitals.
DOUGLAS CARVER (VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL)
They're taking money away that should be used for the deserving veterans.
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Voiceover) Most of the phonies are spotted by people who really earned their medals. In St Louis, this supposed Marine with a chest full of honors was turned in because he seemed too fat to be a real Marine. It turns out he never served a day in the Marines.
JESSE ADAM MACBETH (VIDEO BLOGGER)
Once I was in Baghdad...
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Voiceover) But authorities say the most disturbing case involves this man, 23-year-old Jesse Macbeth. In a YouTube video seen around the world, Macbeth became a rallying point for anti-war groups, as he talked of the Purple Heart he received in Iraq and described how he and other US Army rangers killed innocent civilians at a Baghdad mosque.
JESSE ADAM MACBETH (VIDEO BLOGGER)
Women and men, you know - while in their prayer, we started slaughtering them.
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Voiceover) It was a complete fabrication.
DOUGLAS CARVER (VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL)
He was in for approximately six weeks and then he was discharged. I don't think he even completed basic training.
BRIAN ROSS (ABC NEWS)
(Off-camera) Last week in federal court in Seattle, Macbeth offered an apology for defaming the real American heroes as he admitted to lying about his service record and his supposed atrocities, Charlie.
CHARLES GIBSON (ABC NEWS)
(Off-camera) Operation Stolen Valor. Brian Ross investigating, thanks.

"would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime . . . that had no concern for human beings." Dick Durbin
“We cannot win this militarily. Our tactics themselves keep us from winning,” John Murtha
“ They klilled innocent civilians in cold blood” Murtha may 17 2006
“They knew the day after this happened that it was not as they portrayed it. They knew that they went into the rooms, they killed the people in the taxi. There was no firing at all. And this comes from the highest authority in the Marine corps, so there’s no question in my mind” Murtha may 2006

Edbert, good point. One of my favorite quotes (can't remember who's, and I'm too lazy to look it up right now) is,
"The mystery is not how government works, but how to make it stop."

You cannot be a true conservative and hold someone who is an arch conservative in such poor regard. You defeat your own intellect, or demonstrate a lack thereof with such premise.....
Just my thoughts, and I have known more than one person who claims to be a conservative but holds far more liberal values than conservative ones.
They usually start their bsb arguments like this: "As a conservative, "
But as I am sure you have heard many times in your own life "to each their own"

Edge schmedge.
Nothing you posted was either slanderous or unpatriotic, dissent does not equate to treason, at least not yet.
But if you want to trade quotes...
here are some that are just plane stupid:
"And don't forget, Sherrod Brown is black. There's a racial component here, too. And now, the newspaper that I'm reading all this from is The New York Times, and they, of course, don't mention that." --Rush Limbaugh, on the 2006 Ohio Senate primary race involving then-Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), who is white
"This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation...I'm talking about people having a good time, these people, you ever heard of emotional release? You ever heard of the need to blow some steam off?" --on the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal
"Too many whites are getting away with drug use...Too many whites are getting away with drug sales...The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river, too."
"This Haditha story, this Haditha incident, whatever, this is it folks, this is the final big push on behalf of the Democratic Party, the American left, and the Drive-By Media to destroy our effort to win the war in Iraq. That’s what Haditha represents — and they are going about it gleefully. They are ecstatic about it… Folks, let me just put it in graphic terms. It is going to be a gang rape. There is going to be a gang rape by the Democratic Party, the American left and the Drive-By Media, to finally take us out in the war against Iraq. Make no bones about it. "

I think Rush is a true patriot.....I can't remember which branch of the military he served in, but he backed up his patriotic talk with real service to our country....
-
oh my....only veterans can be patriots, the horror...the horror
-
The difference: Limbaugh is an entertainer and a private citizen. Reid is an elected member of a branch of the federal government, who is targeting a private citizen for speaking out.
It would seem that to some in here, dissent is a one way street and only against Republicans. Dare to disagree with their boys, and it's time to shut 'em down.
But, these are the same people that wanted the head of a majority leader and called him racist for basically referring to "the good ole days" at a birthday party of a 100 year old man, all the while mollycoddling a (past) member of the KKK who personally filibustered the Civil Rights Act for 14 hours.

He can go away, change the channel.
I am constantly amazed at how many people want some action to prevent someone from speaking, when they have the ability to tune them out all by their little ol selves.
You don't have to listen to him, simple. But wishing he would go away, what's the matter, what are you afraid of? I chose to listen, but I should support your petty wish and Not be able to tune in because I might hear something You don't agree with? Who the heck appointed people like You grand pubah of what I want to hear?
This is a symptom of a larger national problem. You guys are getting far far too comfortable wanting to squelch people you don't agree with, and are investing no time at all coming up with an original though to compete against your opposition.
It doesn't matter what political party you subscribe to, weak is weak.
Many people confuse someones right to speak as a requirement that it be listened to, you don't have to listen.
Many people also confuse freedom of speech and what it really means. Rush, and others, speak out against a political system they don't believe in. That is The Point of the Freedom of Speech stuff. It doesn't mean you can promote Pron, you can slander, you can put anything up on a billboard you want regardless of how morally offensive it is, it means you can Stand on the steps of the nations capitals and Criticize your elected leaders.
You want to remove that ability? It's more important to me that some idiot have the right to spew the most ludicrous statements out there, and ignore him, than to have some nanny state deciding what he, or I, can or cannot say.
If you think for one minute that Once the precedent is set that You have the right to silence someone for offending You, then I will be Offended and Silence You, and you probably won't like it nearly as much at that point.
Precedent Setting, people. It's all around and so many of you are buying into it. Simple comments like wishing someone Could be shut down are happening instinctively now, without even coming close to comprehending how far you have fallen into the socialist movement.
Keep it up :) You don't even know you are in their camp. Being played like fools.

Quoted from the investigation conducted by General Bagwell:
"Statements made by the chain of command during interviews for this investigation, taken as a whole, suggest that Iraqi civilian lives are not as important as U.S. lives, their deaths are just the cost of doing business, and that the Marines need to get 'the job done' no matter what it takes. These comments had the potential to desensitize the Marines to concern for the Iraqi populace and portray them all as the enemy even if they are noncombatants.

By "go away", I meant go away, like lose popularity. I would never think of infringing on their freedom of speach. Show me where I said I would. I simply think they make the political group I consider myself somewhat part of, look stupid.
I am all about freedom, we do not have enough as is.

where could we use some more freedom in this country?
I dont mean like the freedom to not be searched at airports or the freedom to buy a tonne of chemicals that you have no obvious need for....I mean basic freedoms like those guaranteed in the bill of rights?
-
As a california residient my firearms rights are far more restricted then I would like.
In fact I still cant buy handguns with mags bigger then 10 rounds or rifles. I can't buy an AR-15 with a removable mag.
The war on drugs is a giant joke and a huge waste of money. If we were truely free, we would be free to do with our bodies what we want. Hell I can't even buy sudifed anymore, atleast the real kind, because some misinformed DEA fools think thats going to have any impact on the meth scene at all?
-
You sure read alot into one sentence.
Yes, I did, words mean things :) People don't spend enough time really thinking about what they mean. Slips and off the cuff comments show instinctively what people think more often than not.
I wasn't going after you personally, I just felt that a simple statement like that was so relevant. You gotta be careful around politicians, when you say things like "I wish he would go away" the Democrats are Listening and want to help you, so they will make it happen! Case in point...
From the floor, one of the Democrats Rep. Schakowsky
actually discussed censuring Rush. Now, hang on a minute...Rush is a private citizen. The Government has No Authority to censure a private citizen, who do these people think they are? Has she not read the constitution? This is an example of your Democrat Leadership, she actually Thinks she has Some Authority OVER private citizens, do you see a disturbing trend here? Anyone forgetting the concept of a Representative government? We are not supposed to be Led, we are supposed to elect Leaders to represent us.
Some of you guys that Support people like this are also the ones complaining about airport security. Now, I prefer a Secure Airline over the Government having the ability to Squelch a private citizen.
You guys keep telling your Government what you want them to do for you, they will oblige. Health Care, want "Free" Health Care? Ok, you will now give the obligation of your health to your government. Now, when they tell you what to eat, when to hit the treadmill, what to drink, what NOT to drink, are you going to be quite as happy? You think they Won't go there? They already are there, hand them the health care authority and you are sunk. Who's trying to stop everyone from smoking, killed the theater popcorn, wants to ban fried food from the fair, supports suing McDonalds because some one ate too much and got fat. And if you think it's to help you, then your sadly mistaken. They are in it for the Power. Who's to say Tyson Farms has healthier chicken than Banquet? Depends on who's political party Tyson ( Demo) funds perhaps?
Who's to say, that for the sake of the "Public" that if you are 85 years old and sickly, that your medicine wouldn't be of better use to "save a child" and then you, being the ward of the state, are simply let go? You don't think it can happen? Which political party supports the right to die? Which Party is just fine with abortion on demand? Which party set's the precedent that Life itself is a negotiable commodity? Once you accept that Life is Negotiable, then all bet's are off and you better be a Very Slick Negotiator.
When you read the choice between having medicine for the 85 year old or the child, did you Naturally and very PC immediately think, well the Child should get it of course! You went socialist. The Concept of automatically assuming the medicine would be Rationed in the first place has already filtered into your psyche and become second nature. Things are Not Finite, and a good solid medical system makes enough for everyone. That Cannot Happen in a socialist medical system. We have more than any nation, because of our freedom. Socialism didn't work when the Pro's ran it, what makes you think We can do it when it's abhorrent to our instinct as a free society? Where was the best medical system when the Soviet Union was in place? Sorry my Canadian friends, but medical is "free" up north yet those who can afford it still come south, why is that? (No, Canda isn't socialst, but they have Free Med) How many Leaders in Socialist nations come Here for medical? Check it out.
Keep looking for someone else to solve the problems, someone will gladly step up to do it for you. You, of course, lose all choice in the matter after that.
But that's ok, I'm just rambling, it's really not that big of a deal, not worth getting worked up about, you all do what you want and careful when you knock on my door to Tell me what I should or shouldn't do :)
-
ROC, if you ran for POTUS you would have my vote. :aok
-
the longer these politicians attack a private citizen and try to make these stupid resolutions, the more idiotic and juvenile they look. they must really think people are stupid. if they keep this stuff up, congress is going to wind up with a 0.002 % approval rating. i'd compare their conduct to 3rd graders but i don't want to disparage children... if this is their prelude to trying to get equal time on talk radio, they are only making themselves look bad and wasting time on trivialities. its pathetic.

Is that why half the Senate is trying to tar and feather him off the radio?
-
That could be a very capitalistic decision
Valid point, however, I'd still, as a capitalist, chose to sell to Both instead of having to make the choice between one. Everything about Socialism is limits, and Capitalism is No Limits. Socialism is about Fairness but is Limited to someone Elses view of what is Fair, you Cannot participate in that conversation as you would be selfishly looking out for your interests alone. Capitalists are All About looking out for yourself, and As a capitalist, I believe that the Best Customers are Successful and Stinking Rich so I encourage everyone to be Successful and Stinking Rich :)
That is the difference, I want Everyone to be as successful as they Want to be, and Work to be. I have full faith and confidence that anyone can achieve anything they want. With that, however, life isn't fair and people are going to fail. The Government movement would like to help you so that you don't get your feelings hurt when you fail. Other, more strong minded individuals think Failure is nothing more than Successfully proving a method doesn't work and moving on to the next attempt.
I'm ROC, and I endorse this message
And yes, I'm With Fred :)

Glad you liked it :)
But, because I really do like a good discussion, How is he unpatriotic?

Yes, Bj229r. The reason 1/2 the Senate is trying to tar and feather him off the air is because some people on this BBS think Rush is an idiot. I'm glad you figured out the root cause.

Because his entire reason for existing is to denegrate fully 50% of the population of this country. He is hell bent on dividing us into pigeonholed defined camps and turning the one he dislikes into pariahs. This does nothing to make our country stronger and it certainly does nothing but try to paint some of us as disloyal. I am saddened every time I see someone treat that pompous bellybutton as if he were important or had something worthwhile to say.
That's how.

MT......that is exactly what the other side does as well. I listen to the "other" side at night going home. They are NO better than he. Each "Side" has their agenda and will spout thier rhetoric to the high heavens to try to sway people to thier way of thinking.
I lean right...sometimes on certain issues pretty far.....But to make it sound like he , being on the right , is the only one doing it is , to say the least , disingenious.

That could be a very capitalist decision.
See! Why the "ic"? No need for the "ic". The "ic" is evil and hates us.

The President has set the precedant for innovative vocabularistics. It's sort of a verbal jazz. Why just today, I used the new word integrotic, referring to the study of interrogatory statements.
Adding an istic or a simple ic is enhancematic of the language.

well said roc...
mt.. noooo... the reason more than half the democratic party is trying to tar and feather him is twofold..
Talk radio is something that burns their butt... it is very popular and it is very conservative and.. it is about the only media that they don't control and can't compete in. sooo.. they want to destroy it.
second... the "move on.org) add exposed them for left wing military haters and... rather than the "support our troops" rhetoric they spew.. it showed how they really feel about the troops... like the comments by kerrie about how only stupid people ended up in iraq... they hate it being out in the open sooo.. they want to say, in effect.... "everyone does it"

MT, the same thing occurs when someone uses class warfare to try to garner votes and that exact ploy is one of the Dems favorites. By the way, have you ever listened to Air America? Wow, you think Rush is bad!

We're three pages deep into this topic.....and
I'm still waiting for you to produce the quotes that support your accusations that Rush is unpatriotic. Thus far you have given your opinion that he is pompous. He has an agenda, and he is conservative.
That’s not quite unpatriotic.

LOLOLO...MT you say 50%!!!..
wow..talk about brainwashed..you shoudl hand over thsoe evil killing weapons NOW!!
your beloved Dem controled senate has a 78% NEGATive rating?
I find it extremly HArd to beleive that 50% of USA all disagree with The Golfer...
Do you think you get a paycheck ..HAlf a billion dollers for not sharing same views that the majority do? Its pretty easy to see that The Democratic Party Hates America- Hates religion-Hates the idea of you making your own decisions-Wants to Kill Babies
BTW...You must squirm when the radio is on,......I just wish Michael Savage wasnt banned from the Socialist Media..hes funny..and says what most of us feel.."most"..not all..so dotn get your panties and limp wrist all upset; )

Wow... Look at all the yea-buts.

Oh my God! Rush involved with hookers? I am flabergasted, who knew Rush was a flaming Heterosexual? Burn him at the cross I say.
-
Haven't read the thread yet but when senators are reduced to focusing prolonged vendettas against radio talk show hosts I have to wonder how long before the end.
-
It's actually the Beginning of the Fix. More and more people are starting to actually pay attention to them :)
Best thing they could have done for Rush is to harp on this 24/7, he's probably got more people tuning in to see what the controversy is, all the while he is replaying things he Actually said and comparing against what they Say he is saying.
Not a bad gig actually :D

link (http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewNation.asp?Page=/Nation/archive/200710/NAT20071005a.html)
The federal government is currently conducting more than 60 "stolen valor" investigations of individuals suspected of making false claims about their military records, according to the Department of Veteran's Affairs, and about 30 people nationwide have been arrested in the past year for crimes related to falsifying a military record.
Stolen valor typically occurs when someone falsifies documents or produces medals and awards from the military they didn't earn in order to qualify for veterans benefits.
Jeffrey Sullivan, the U.S. attorney in the Western District of Washington, prosecuted Jesse Macbeth of Tacoma, Wash., in the past year as well as five others who falsely claimed heroic military service.
Macbeth, who was sentenced to five months in prison last month, is the person Rush Limbaugh cited on his radio program as an example of a "phony soldier."
For some, federal officials said, the motive for stolen valor is psychological, as a former soldier yearns to be a hero. But for most, the motive is financial, a means of getting certain federal benefits and medical care that come with being a veteran.
"In the six cases we've done, it has resulted in an estimated $1.4 million loss for the Veterans Administration," Sullivan told Cybercast News Service. "There are a significant amount of scam artists and phonies. They take money that legitimate vets deserve."
