Title: blue screen
Post by: faded on October 09, 2007, 10:59:06 PM
First off I have dug around the forum for info and cant pinpoint my problem

I'm running a
P4 2.4
1 gig ram
nividia 6200 (with the latest 163.71 drivers)

when I run AH I get the Blue screen saying the driver is stuck in an infinite loop and the file responsible is nv4_disp. Sometimes it locks up right away other times it takes awhile. Gpu temp stays 115-118 f  that's about 47-48 c (I think).
After I hard boot I get an error message( A display device was unable to complete a drawing operation)

I can play other games for hours with no problem.

Sounds like a bad driver installation.  Or the previous driver was not removed before the installation of the current driver.

Just remember this,  Newer is not always better as it pertains to video drivers.  NVidia and ATI/AMD are both guilty of catering to the top 10 game titles in thier drivers which can introduce problems for other games.

Oh boy.. I just looking at the driver issue and realized that I downloaded and installed the new international instead of the us drivers... I bet that has something to do with it lol

That could casue some rather bizarre issues.  DriverCleaner seems to be the choice software utility to purge a computer of its drivers.

After uninstalling and reinstalling the correct drivers. I got a different error saying nv4_dll file was responsible for the instability. I noticed  after uninstalling again this file remained in system 32 folder. I tryed to delete it but it would reappear after 3-4 seconds (?). so I renamed it reinstalled the correct drivers. I was on last night 3-4 hours without a hitch. For an old rig it runs AH pretty good. But I think for 10 bucks I'll run the drivercleaner also.

  Thanks for the help
