One of the two killed was an Army Capt. or an O-3, took a direct hit in their NTV or civilian pickup truck. Had they been in and Army humvee they'd be alive today... that's about all I see over here are the officers driving the civilian vehicles and the soldiers driving the hunvees. One Captain is worth about what, 80 insurgents? Time to break out the big guns.
Stuff like this is what happens when you try to fight a politically correct war!
I've always said, go neighborhood by neighborhood. Seal it off, announce you are going to blow it off the face of the earth, but you will allow everyone to leave, check them as they leave for weapons. Anyone who stayed behind has something going on and deserves what they get. Have a flight of B-52's fly over and level it. Then we can rebuild that neighboorhood and let everyone move back in. I figure we are rebuilding nearly everything anyway, this won't cost too much more, and will be more than worth it to save US lives.

Imagine for a second that your country has been invaded by some other country due to George Bush being a dictator and having thousands of people murdered (and not really cos someone wanted cheap Texan oil) and a few hundred soldiers camped out at the end of your street saying get out within 2 days taking only what you can carry cos your home that you've lived in since childhood is gonna be demolished, that tree you had your first kiss under is gonna be blown to bits and you'll never be able to visit your childhood pets' grave again cos after the bomb hits you wont be able to find it anyway........and afterwards it'll take 3 years for us to get around to building you a cardboard pre-fab house and you'll be living in a tent until then.
How would you feel about it and would you seriously consider joining up with the insurgents?

I would have been an insurgent from the beginnning, no need to wait until something like that happens.
Take a peek at WW2, would we have beat Japan or Germany using these tactics? NO. We leveled virtualyl every square mile of every major city in Germany. We torched most of Japan, as well as dumping a nuke on two of their cities.
Now on to your devil's advocate question, let me reply in the manner you are probably were not looking for... If I were living under a dictator who ruthlessly murdered inncocent civilians and acted like a Jackoscar which got a bunch of UN sancations placed on the country which directly decreased my level of living, and some country finally got feed up with him and took over. I would be rather happy. Now when my nutjob neighbors decided to take this opportunity to wage a religious based civil war and target our lving liberators, I would be glad if they killed the insurgents, even if it meant levelling the crappy neighborhood I lived in, and offered to rebuild me a nice house with a nice infrastructure (electricity, runnign water, and sewage systems are good things) so that my level of living would increase.

Actually, never mind. The point I was toying around was that the tactics you mention could create even more Iraqi hatred for the US and her allies then already exists.

swoop, I view the situation from a different point. I believe since we are already globally reviled inspite of the overwhelming fact that we are easily the most benevolent and humanitarian society in the entire history of civilization we might as well just live up to our critic's expectations.

I think it's been shown that most of the insurgents are not from Iraq, rather they are coming from other places (Syria, Iran, etc.).
So it's really not a matter of "I'm pissed at the Americans so I'm going to join up with these nut jobs over here to fight them".
Tiger's response to your question said it best....I think that an overwhelming majority of the people in Iraq approve of us getting rid of Sadam and sticking around to get rid of the nut job insurgents.
Here's alternative response to your initial question:
Imagine for a second that your country's evil dictator has been overthrown and removed from power...your country is liberated. Nut jobs from surrounding countries come in and are eager to fill the void. They find this next to impossible while the soliders from the country that liberted you are still there. So they resort to cowardly tactics and make life misserable for the soliders as well as you and your family. One day you wake up and see the all of the soliders leaving. You inquire as to why and they reply "Gotta go, you're on your own buddy." "But what about security for me and my family?" you ask. "Sorry, I wish we had more time to get your guys trained up but my government demands that we leave" is the response you get.
Now, what would be running through your head?
"Man I long for the days of Sadam....I wish he was still alive."
or
"I can't wait for these nut jobs to finally take control of my country."
or maybe
"Why are they leaving? Things were getting better with them here."

It's been shown to be the opposite.

I've read that the numbers are about equal. that there as many non iraqi insurgents as there are iraqi insurgents. the arabs have a saying which translates to something like my brother and I against my cousin but my cousin my brother and I against you. this like football to them and killing an american is like a rite of passage it seems.
it is a diificult place to do business in as we all know there millenia of animosities dividing these people which they have no interest in overcoming. there is no love lost between the arabs and other moslems. these guys have been wholesale slaughtering each other since prehistory. that fact may be further refined to there is no love lost between moslem factions. it's like a baptist arguing with a presbyterian except these guys blow each others families up in the course of the argument.
the wise policy is to use up all their oil and other natural rersources and then allow them to wipe each other out slowly. once their natural resources are used up the tempo should slacken some.
the people who pull the strings of the global economy have it right. in due time they will matter little.

Bullets from american rifles don't know the differance.....
They probably all look the same when looking thru the sights and they are holding an AK47 or RPG launcher pionted at you.
Does it matter right now where they are from? Shoot em....ALOT....Kill em....everyone.....less of a problem that way and you don't have to feed em in prison camps. The ones that do give up like the wusses they are find out what you can and send em packing....then shoot em when ya get the chance.
