Title: Well It just Finished!
Post by: MjTalon on October 13, 2007, 05:25:39 PM
The Der Grosse Schlag Frame 2 has just ended and i must save it ROCKED!:aok  Never had that much fun in all of my time in AH2 and i'm looking forward to the last 2 frames, i got shot down twice:(  but it was fun winging up with squadron mates, Fighting at 30k, searching for enemies without radar, your SA is on constant alert... was hectic! anyway i was flying with the 361st as a walk on but it rocked none the less.... LW and Allies pilot's for a wonderful 3 hour's :aok

Ya Talon..was nice seeing your group show up as Boozer and I tangled with them low Focke Wulfs and Messerschmidts. I managed to get out and back home. Boozer made it out of that scrap, but alas, got bounced on the way back home.

Yes this frame was more fun for me. I didn't have any contact with any bombers this time, I think they were all hiding up north with Santa Clause somewhere. I did run into quite a few P51's and was lucky enough to send 4 of those poor yanks to their graves early. :t

They definately weren't hiding, just being looked out for by a bunch of 38s :)

And it was definately a good time :aok

Hmm.  The two LW fliers to post in this thread said they got 9 guys between the two of them and said they had fun.

I didn't pull the trigger and had fun.

clarification.

AH is fun. This event is not. at least not for anyone not flying in the allied hoard. if your flying in the hoard then great have fun with that. easy kills easy RTB no worries.

why am I here? 2 frames left then its over. said I'd be there so I will be there.

Weird, when I checked the roster right before launch there were actually a few more Germans than allies.

This is getting embarrassing.

Please don't speak for everyone on the Axis side.

Post your views all you want, but don't speak to things you don't know for a fact.

There are a great many of us who are actually having a good time.

Ah...isn't he the Axis C.O.?

DAmn...if he's whining that bad in here, whats he doing on the CM board?

but thats the whole point of not posting the logs.

to decieve everyone about what is really happening on the side that is loosing.

problem is no one cares.

if they are not having fun in the event and I can speak for all the ones that are not then it dosnt matter anyway.

but there it is. most of us on axis have detested this scenario since it started and went along with it only to be manipulated by CM's twisting the thing trying to tell us we are having fun when the thing just sucks.

lol they might have wanted to leave me on the CM board where my whines have been pretty well contained.

but this has been my view of this farce since the start when the first two Axis CO's quit because they knew this is what it was.

So based on the fact that "Most of us on the axis" have detested the scenario, then you re suggesting a mass exit for the majority of the LW?

So you were coerced into flying it?  Somehow the CMs conned you into doing something you didn't want to do?

If that's the case, why are you still doing it?  Not much point if you are that miserable.

You've clearly decided that somehow this was designed to punish you in some way shape or form, or that some folks are so determined to 'win' that they'll slant things to give them an edge so they can't lose.

I wish you could have heard the tone after the frame.  No one talking points or winning.  People talking about the experience they had and the moments that gave them a slight feel for the history.

We in the 38s got talking about what it must have been really like, flying that high, with it that cold, relying on oxygen, potential mechanical difficulty, the potential for real death etc.  It lead to talk about some of the guys grandfathers.  We had a Tarawa, Saipan, Okinawa vet.  A Guadalcanal vet, a Navy vet of the pacific.  A grandpa who went ashore on D-day +2 in France.

We never discussed how we were going to make anyone miserable.  We just had fun.  We understood the potential was there to get mugged or to be the mugger.  I jumped when the flak went off the first time.  We appreciated the little moments in these things that set them apart from the hamster wheel of the MA.  I woudln't trade it for all the MA days I've ever had.

I doubt there will be any way to please you.  I'd suggest you design a scenario and show us how it's to be done better since you clearly have opinions on how it should be.

More then happy to fly it on either side.

Hmm, interesting.  You went into the gutter against Fencer, caused the design forum to be shut down, and now want to retaliate out here.

Well, moot point now.

I've opted to leave the event, I know better than to try and fly one.

Keep an eye on those rules everyone.

Enjoy the last 2 frames.

Fester, thats just insulting, not only to the design crew and the CM team, but to everyone flying this thing.

But then again, I think thats exactly what you were trying to be. You got spanked this frame and are pitching a pre-teen sqeaker fit. Frankly, I was suprised that the LW 190s were so far out of position...dunno what area they were committed to but it wasn't where the allies were.

So you can keep blaming everyone else, or you could actually come up with a plan for victory. Don't tell me its impossible....I've run a side where the odds were no where near as favorable as what the axis has here, except I had 4 262's to play with :)

Of course, something tells me you consider it more fun to jsut sit back and throw insults around...so...have fun, I'm going to bed  :rofl

you missed that I spent all week recruiting everyone I could find to couter the fact that only 70 registered players showed up. the other 60 were walkons most of which I recruited by nonstop work to find people willing to fly this thing for you guys to shoot at.

and you guys still outnumbered us by 20 and flew as 1 big hoard to make it even worse.

take this warning if you want oposition on your little sight seeing tour over germany. I am not recruiting anyone for this anymore because I have seen without a doubt no one on your side is looking for a fair fight.

Don't try Dan, there are far more players on the Axis that are in the same mode you are.

Fester is convinced this scenario was deliberately designed to thwart the Axis.

I guess I should have not went with the No Logs Post afterall.  I mean, we all can count, and know where things stand.

If That's all it would have taken to change his opinion, then much was missed anyway, so it really doesn't matter.

well the irony is my origional plan was a good counter to your frame 2 tactics but ROC and many others disagreed with it and I bowed to their wishes and listened to their reasoning.

they prefered I use the same plan I used since beta which was only meant to be used once. worked even worse the third time.

Fencer changed the Frame 2 plans last minute because someone who had already seen the Frame 2 plans switched. There was a lot of grumbling on the Allied side beause of this. What I find funny is the 190s we were so concerned about were seen far south near the original frame 2 plans.

So it was ROC's fault?  You were coerced into going with another plan?

Probably time for Galland and the boys to throw their medals in the chamber pot and send it back to Georing

I hope this one runs again someday so I can fly Luftwaffe.  I kinda have an interest  in those JG300 guys.  I'd like to try my hand from the other side and see how it works.

Gotta believe I could have fun that way too.
Title: Well It just Finished!

You mean the plan where you wanted to take all our fighters and put them in the middle against all their fighters, ignoring the bombers because you were ticked last frame cause you got jumped south?

The plan where I wanted to split up and take a north south approach?  Where they actually Went?

The plan that killed more fighters than they killed like I showed you?

That one?

Ok, my bad :D

Post by: ROC on October 14, 2007, 12:23:46 AM
What Fester is missing is his plans Worked.  We did Well.  Very Well.

Some didn't see action.

Honestly, I don't know what he's going off on, we did well last frame also and he went off.  It's like he's taking it personally that the event was designed to thwart him.

I don't know, maybe it's propaganda, but it's also demoralizing for those who are enjoying the event.

So, that's why I am stepping aside, Clearly his plans need to accommodate those who Aren't.

Valid reasoning, it's his team and he needs to look out for those he wants to promote.

Post by: Hornet33 on October 14, 2007, 12:52:55 AM
Why is he banging on the Allies for flying in a horde??? Seems everything I've EVER seen on TV or read in a book concerning the subject, the Allies flew that way. Bombers at high alt in massed tight formations with fighter cover. Hmmmm that's just what we did today.

As far as the Allies having an "unfair" advantage, well Germany lost the war so here we are again being historicly accurate. Germanys biggest problem during the war was it's leadership. Seems this is the case this time around as well....again historicly accurate.

I also find it a bit strange that the Axis were concentrated along the original flight plan for this frame. Luckily for the Allies we had good leaders that changed the plan as soon as they found out there MIGHT be a security leak. I'm not accusing anyone of anything but it is odd as others have also commented on.

Regardless, I never even saw a german plane today. Heard there were a couple that came near our formation but that was it. Never saw an icon. Only thing I had to worry about was flying a tight formation and dropping on the target. Would have been nice to see some action but all in all I still had a fun time.

ah the cheating alegations of foul play this is always my favorite.

truth is we have used the same plan every single frame. the objective to be prepared for every attack by zone defence.

we were always at a4 and a37 waiting for you.

every single frame. only after 3 frames you found that the north group was weaker than the south group as its been since beta.

we didnt spot your b17s only reports up north were b24s so we waited for b17s to be spotted. they never were. safely in the big blob of enemy planes.

the first thought I had was they must all be in b24s as I raced up there.

not till the b17s were rtb did they get called out as b17s.

I have dealt with being called a cheater for 8 years now. I've not done so and always played legitimately by the rules of the game.

only person I asked to be transfered to Axis was Xtrmej1 when I asked if he would rather fly with the muppets and he said yes. so I asked if he could switch in the design forum. he never visited the allied forums or read the allied junkmail. muppets may lack manners but they have integrity in such matters of cheating or rule breaking. I would never ask of him that info and he would never say.

the only other person I asked as to why they were flying allies was steve. I didnt ask him to join the axis I asked why when the whole squad is over here he is there as a walkon?

I find it odd these acusations when there are several allied players such as HB555 who have had access to the axis forums and all our plans the entire time. I never acused them a of cheating like I was I asked them why they were on the axis boards and they claimed to have never peaked.

I don't accuse people of cheating unlike some who just throw it out there like its candy. the danger is like wildfire in an online game.

I was blinded by the glow from your Halo :)

You really want to do all this here Fester?

Integrity of which you speak involves having the common courtesy to communicate with the CO you told you were going to fly with on two occasions that you'd be there.

Barring that, it would be the courtesy to take a minute and say "I'd like to go fly Axis"  What do you think?

Nothing too complicated, just courtesy.

Again, this isn't about Muppets, it's about being CO of the Axis force.  Your allegience is to all of them not just the Muppets.

As for accusing you of cheating, me thinks you protest too much.  We discussed XJ after the beta when he reiterated he was flying 38s and the issue was dead.  No one has been accusing you of cheating. but throwing that out there is a good way to get the focus off your antics the past week and apparently moving forward into this week

It becomes an easy deflection from the topic at hand which in the end is how you intend to present yourself and represent the LW in the remaining frames.

I'd suggest you get your priorities straight, decide if you can actually finish the scenario in good faith, and if so, began to represent your people in a positive way and help make this event a success.

Hi Fester,

I bet that after a day or so away from todays frame, you will probably be concluding this on your own not needing me to mention it, but well, it wasn't really 150 vs 130 fighters outnumbering you.  Some of those 150 were bombers too and i've never seen bombers horde up on fighters, on hangers maybe but not FW190s:) .  So could have actually been less than 130 Allied fighters against ya'll.  Also, I was with the escorts on the B17s, and it really was a large impressive looking horde, something no one would ever get to see in the main arenas for sure, however we never really saw enemy fighters to engage so we definately didn't "horde" against ya'll anywhere out there that I know of this frame.  Not criticising, lecturing, or talking down to you or anything (I wish forums had a "tone of voice" button you could highlight text with, heh), just noting that well there may be other things you also saw that have taken the fun out for you, you may just not have articulated accurately what might really have seemed wrong with the frame or perhaps just perceived the numbers balance to be worse than it was.

I bet, uncle Fester, if you just did your lightbulb bit for us out here a time or two, then we could all just chuckle a get back to being one big happy extrememly odd Adams Family toon plane people.:)

See your 262 zooming around us again next Saturday,

Not to beat a dead and happily burried horse, but we did get some essential players stop flying the event on their own because they were flying around formation and getting caught rtb'ing or climbing back from same (or vulched), basicaly spending an hour or two doing jack, rather than having a lot of action.

The hours of boredom punctuated by short moments of terror thing is fun and historical, but to a point only.  It could never substitute good wingman and small group tactics.

Couldn't disagree with you more.

I enjoyed the combat (3 kills) today, but prob. the most fun I had was the climb out, and the rtb @ the end.  The immersion quality of the Scenario is something that can't be found in the other arenas.

Now, in response to the gist of what you'd said prior:

With all due respect, I believe you are entirely wrong regarding the balance of this event design. I propose we settle this dispute like gentleman.

I challenge you and your team to play it again once we've finished. We'll reverse roles, you play Allied. Same rules. We will win.

Non sequitur.

I had fun but nothing like the events I remember flying in years ago.
YMMV, see you next frame.

ROC

I am very sorry you feel you have to leave.  I wish you would stay.  The reasons are obvious.  One being you personally have made this event a great deal of fun for us.  Please reconsider.  We need true gentlemen in this game such as yourself.

I also am glad to see CMs participate!  They do all they dirty work.  They are the brunt of abuse from the malcontents, they are the peacemakers, and CMs have the patience of Jobe.  These Scenarios could not be carried out without the likes of you ROC.  This Community is far better off with your presence then without it.  Whether one has a good time or not chiefly depends upon themselves and the effort his or her team mates put into the Scenario. Brooke, ROC and Roo have worked very hard behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera to make it enjoyable. I salute them for their efforts and will as usual participate and help any way that I can in future scenarios.  The CMs deserve that.  It's not all their load to carry.

I have come to the decision that I must step down as Axis CO and Bearkats will replace me. as I have committed the cardinal sin of leadership and argued in public and lost my image as cool and collected leading to the best of my ability.

but even in the frame I was never up to the task of leading the whole axis force. at Best I am a leader by example from the front of a flight leading players by my actions not by commands from far away.

but it is self preservation that I must do this and not directly related to the scenario

I didn't say this in the public forums but part of the reason  my wife left me is this game. I have sat in front of this screen for hours unable to stop playing. and when I am not playing I am working on the new airplane skin for the next plane going into AH.

and my motivation to miss days from work and get canned was my addiction to this game which after being named CO has gotten out of control. I must step back from it to have any chance of getting her back and hopefully my job back too.

so its a double edged thing. the excitement of looking forward to frame 3 but the knowledge I must stop the level of addiction I have gotten to the game and this scenario to repair the damage I have done to my life.

talk about a hijacked thread... went from a simple great DGS frame topic to a clash of letters...:( . Honestly it was un-called for to be honest.

You asked me,  but so what?  I don't see a problem with the CO of a squad trying to get his whole squad to fly on the same side. The deal with XJ was simple:  Have him switch after the frame.

When the the XJ thing was developing, I was asked if you and XJ would cheat.  I defended you both, saying I didn't know of either of you being anything but honorable.
When it was mentioned that XJ wasn't going to be allowed to fly because he had the Allied orders, I replied that if someone was going to cheat, they'd give up the plans whether they were allowed to fly or not so he should be allowed to play.

For this defense of XJ, and you, whom I considered a virtual friend, I was booted off the squad forum.  I had enough integrity to keep our squad forum conversations, regarding  DGS, private. This with the exception of mentioning that you tried to get our squad all on the same side. I'll say it again, I don't see anything wrong with that. The timing for XJ to switch wasn't great but it was a trivial thing and I have already mentioned my opinion on this.

As far as me being a walkon:  ASW asked me to fly with him in August, I told him I would, time and babysitters allowing.  I never got around to registering because I just didn't feel like it.  I told this to ASW and he said I shouldn't worry, he'll keep a spot for me.  I like flying Mustangs. The squad has always held that we can play on any side, fly any plane.   Why did it change for DGS?
You basically booted me from the squad forum because YOU were posting about DGS there and I was participating in the threads.  Do you feel that was appropriate to boot me, thus making it clear that I was not welcome in the squad?

I received an invite back in to the squad, did I incorrectly assume it was from you? I'm starting to wonder, based on what you have typed here and the fact that I'm still not able to access squad forum.

Hmmm......

Well I had a GREAT TIME.

Caught a pony that SEEMED to be practicing REALLY BAD SA and BOOM!

Then turned towards 3 or 4 more flyin to the south of us.

Engaged and of all things to hear???? Squad CO said break off?????

Turned and started climbout BUT.......

Some wicked, nasty, naughty naughty, bad bad, EVIL pony pilots <2> came after me!

2nd one finally hit my pilot and my rad :( :furious :cry

Ran to A37 ( I think it was A37 ) and tried to land deadstick but one of the pony pilots followed.  I turned and avoided but by this time my speed was way to low to get a successful landing and I bellied in for a ditch BUT....

died just before I towered :furious

Reupped and rejoined and shot down another pony and think I got an assist on a 3rd. (DANG Lute keeps stealin all my kills)     :rofl >

Just for the record bud, I asked Steve to fly with me in DGS months ago - before either he or I knew the muppets would be flying axis. You've got lots of class, fester - it's all low but you've got plenty of it.

Very different than the BearKat FW 190A8 group's day. Upped, climbed to 30K. We flew around WAY east... went North, went South  Never saw a bomber. Tanks almost dry we ran into a group of ponys... Probably a good approximation of what a Luftwaffe 190 jock experienced in 1944! I'll try again next week!

 Flame ON:

I was in a 190 Gruppen that never saw a bomber! Der OberKommandoLuftwaffe wants to know why we burned all that valuable fuel flying in circles 100 km from the nearest bomber.

My personal evaluation is that the "High Command" should pay more attention to the tactical situation at hand and less to their preconceived notion of what their opposite number "should" be doing.

As a lowly walkon pilot I was bored out of my skull. It was like flying off-line!

Our Gruppen had now idea of the overall situation. This was probably due the the leadership not having a clue as to what was happening.

I rememer a principal from the Army's Basic Non-Commisioned Officer Course that states that a good leader always keeps his superiors and subordinates informed... Based on my day, this flow of information broke  down at all levels of command on the axis side.

The Axis "Plan" was flawed in it's conception and bungled in it's execution, in my humble opinion.

This exercise was a demonstration of a TOTAL intellengence failure! The Allied bomber force was able to fly to their targets UNMOLESTED!!!!!!!! Why was this allowed to happen? The ENTIRE command and staff of the axis side should be transfered to the Infantry on the Eastern Front. Hermann is laughing from hell that our sim staff couldn't protect the fatherland any better than he and the OKL did in 1944!

Good luck Fester. I wish you nothing but the best.

..and for what it's worth, you're doing the absolute right thing. We can't allow anything -- even good things, fun things like AH -- master us to the point that life in general suffers. When we get so hooked on even the good things that really important stuff suffers, the only choice is to step away and let perspective work its way back.

And don't sweat the scenario. It will go on, and it will work out. Take care of the things that matter most, and if the time comes to return, we'll be here.

Good luck to you, and never lose sight of what really matters. Do what it takes to make those important things right, ..:aok

I would say that 250+ players had a blast in frame 2.

The small handfull that have posted neg. remarks are bar far the minority.

Scenarios are amazing, wonderfull fun things to participate in.

Sceanrios are amazing, often in the little places that wouldn't seem to matter.

In one practice frame, turnout was low enough that my unit got tagged with ASW/Detch's. He had us spawn from the hangar, then use the taxiways to line up on the runway, without running into other planes (even though friendly collisoins were off). Then, we took off in turns, in two ship elements, and formed up in correct positions off the leader.

MAN! I ahve never had such an immersive experience! All those engines, the planes weaving from side to side to keep vis on the taxiway, waiting for my turn to launch, Punching the throttle with ASW to my left....I've never felt as much imaginary deja vu.

Sounds corny, but it gave me shivers feeling jsut a fraction of what it must have been like, and even some butterflies in the stomach about what was to come.

You just CAN"T get that in MA. So yeah, scenarios are worth it, even when the "points" don't go the way you want. Whether you're into the long periods of boredom with high cover, or the sheer terror of diving a 190 into a cloud of enemies hoping to get a buff down before screaming through the pack...there's nothing like it.

I think this is the first time an AH player has had a wife return.

We should hold some sort of celebration.  Something like a missing man flyby only a non-missing wife flyby.

I wonder what that would look like?
