UK: Jail Time for Revving Engine in a Racist Manner
A motorist in Scotland, UK is fined $238 and sent to jail for two days for the crime of revving his Lotus Esprit in a racist manner.
Scottish motorist Ronnie Hutton, 49, was jailed for two days for the crime of "revving his car in a racist manner" last September. After waiting more than a year to try the case, the Stirling Sheriff court finally convicted Hutton last week of breach of the peace and fined him £150 (US $282).
An off duty officer, Chief Inspector Eoin Jenkins, said Hutton had revved the engine of his Lotus Esprit near two Muslims last year. After Hutton dismissed Jenkins' concern with an expletive, Jenkins immediately dispatched two police officers to Hutton's home where he was taken and thrown in jail for two days without formal charges. Hutton explained that his revving had nothing to do with nearby pedestrians, rather, he was keeping his temperamental and expensive V8 engine from stalling and being damaged.
"To be convicted for revving my car in a busy street is hard to take," Hutton told the Sunday Mail newspaper. "Does this mean anyone driving a noisy car in Scotland is now a criminal?"
Asked in court why the man may have revved his engine, Hana Saad, 23, said through an interpreter, "Maybe because we are Muslim."
That's just not right! This multicultural tolerance is getting out of the hand, especially when the culture of the natives has no value whatsoever.
Two drunks beating up each other - just two stupid drunks
A drunk and an drunken immigrant beating up each other - racist assault.
Apparently the minorities are not able to do harm or overrreact and therefore are always victims.

Obviously the people of court system over there have watched entirely too much Monty Python.

You know, you bring up an excellent point with that statement and probably didn't even mean to!
Look around you folks. Of all the "minorities" you see, which ones whine and cry the most about being discriminated against? Now look at their relative position on society.....................
My point is, I seldom hear of Asian folk crying about not being treated fairly. Just a get it done attitude, and oddly enough these peoples native countries are now poised for prominence in the world market. The same really can't be said for most of the other "minorities", can it? Nah, just look back at the LA riots, who was looting and who was defending their property from the rooftops with small arms.
I wonder though, does anybody here remember the exact date we were granted the right to not be offended? I can't seem to, but it surely must have happened. At least for a select set of "minorities".

but, but Muslims have been oppressed by the V8 for how long now?
:D

Hard to believe they tossed him in the slammer for two days without charges. Is this really true?

I suspect, Toad, that you have seen through this article.
"The police can hold a suspect for up to 36 hours, if you have been arrested for an “arrestable offence”. However, if you have been arrested for an offence that is not strictly speaking “arrestable”, then the maximum time they can hold you is still 24 hours as before. The Home Office guidelines indicated that the power to detain for up to 36 hours should be exercised sparingly. See “Police Powers of Arrest” (page 15) for more on “arrestable offences”.
The period of detention begins from when you arrive at the police station, and not from the time of your arrest. For most minor public order offences, you are unlikely to be detained for longer than 6 hours. An officer of the rank Inspector or higher has to authorise your continued detention after the first 6 hours, then every 9 hours after that.
In serious cases, the police can apply to magistrates to detain you for longer – up to a maximum of 96 hours without charge. "
So basically, they got an Inspector to authorise continued holding of this guy at least 3 times? When the 36 hour point was reached, they went to a magistrate and got a court order to extend the holding period?
I call b****** on this one, I'm afraid.
What actually happened, is that the Inspector told the guy to stop revving his engine. Jenkins told him to F off or something similar. He was then arrested for a breach of the peace. I'm not too sure about the length of the detention, but I bet it wasn't two days. The muslim thing is mentioned because that is what one of the witnesses said. Sunday Mail gets hold of the story and hypes it up. Internet wrag gets hold of story and hypes it up again. Article is spotted and posted on obscure BBS and there is much hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth about Muslims and multi-culturalism.
I should think the Inspector is in hot water over this, however.

Did the copper tell the guy he was a cop or did he just tell him to stop as a private citizen?

Assuming Dowding's version is correct, and it was all supposition on his part about this incident, I think the moral of the story is don't believe anything from the Brit press.
