Or instead of constant, heavily armed standoffs they could just legalize pot and remove the motivation for such incidents.

way way too simple though :aok

This country has too many high up limp wristed crybabies that are too scared to say "NO" no mexico.

If the tacospeak military sets up heavy MG's clearly on the US side of the border to guard their troops that are illegally in the US transporting drugs, then that sounds like an act of war to me.

Hows about next time we counteract it with an Apache and a few hellfire missles.

No, instead they would switch to some other cargo, like heroin or cocaine.

I'm with Eagler. Mine the border.  Matter of fact, make them all Claymores so they get blown back into Mexico.

I prefer Jerry Pournelle's solution...  Since it costs an estimated $10,000 per illegal in govt handouts and direct costs to capture, detain, and deport each one, offer a $5000 bounty for each live illegal immigrant turned over to the border patrol at certain designated border crossings.

Or start the bounty at $1,000, but increase it by $500 each time a repeat offender is turned in.  So the first time an illegal is caught and turned in, the bounty is $1,000.  The second time that same illegal is caught, the bounty is $1,500.  The US govt is obligated by law to track who enters and exits the country (legally or otherwise) so fingerprinting or otherwise positively identifying the illegal immigrants is perfectly legal.  In fact, the govt is obligated by law to track people who cross the border, so it's pretty much a crime to NOT get positive id of all deported illegals.

Thanks for the links. That's nothing new, I heard about things like that going on back in the late 70's and 80's. There have been several federale commandante's who supplemented their payroll by doing escorts to and sometimes just inside the border. Shots were exchanged more than once. Some of the more remote areas were known to be rather hazardous and noisy.

Goes back to the idiocy that is the "war on drugs". All it does is give dangerous people obscene amounts of money, letting them hire more dangerous people and give them lots of guns. Standoffs at the border are not the problem. They're a symptom of a far larger one.

Unfortunately, that will create a whole new underground business where people will start recruiting illegals to come into our country to be 'caught'. They'll all share in the reward.
