What sights do you use on what plane and why? Do you use one sight for all your airplanes?
-
USN Mk8 on the F4Us, F6F and FM2. Because that's the sight they used historically.
Generally I try to match historical sights with the plane that used it.
-
n1kgrn in my Zero, dunno why but I like it, and green is just easy to see for me.

And yes I use this for almost all I fly.
-
I use a dot too.
-
Dot. Smaller than Ghosth's though.

P51
Exact same sight in all planes. The difference is in the size and location of the sight glass.

Use the force Luke!

I raise my seat above the gunsight...I have a sharpy black dot on my screen
This way I can see over my nose a bit more
-
you can just put your mouse were the gunsight is and press H to lock it.
-
to big..obscures my targets as I aim from 1.5k away..and I aim at the oil pans plug..
Ya..I shoot the teets off a swamp rat from a mile away..all bow down
-
I started using P-51DredBMP and love it.

There are only 2 gun sights that you need ...

Here are the sights that I use now. They are alpha (illuminated) sights.
You place both the ???.bmp and ???_alpha.bmp into the HTC\Aces High\sights directory and when choosing the sight in AH setup, you chose the ???.bmp
Fighter: Carefull here because it is named "default". This should automatically change all plane gunsights to this sight without a lot of effort
(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default.bmp) default.bmp
(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default_alpha.bmp) default_alpha.bmp
Jabo: For this sight I explicitly go into the AH setup and choose this one for all the planes that I use for JABO. The bottom dot is what I use to line up the bomb drop on. Usually try to get 45 degree angle on drop using the lower dot. This dot can also be used for planes that carry rockets. Same degree angle of attack ... I can let them go from 1.5 to 2K out and hit with reasonable accuracy.
(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default2.bmp) default2.bmp
(http://pages.cthome.net/crzn22/AHGunsights/default2_alpha.bmp) default2_alpha.bmp
Just right click on the images and download them.

Rich can you post a pic of it?

I have been using those for a long time... if it's more than a dot, it's too much!
Donkey, check out my sights pack in my signature, the P51 sight is in there...

I will try, "haven't quite figured out how yet". Basically it has everything I like in a sight. It has a small dot in the middle, shaped like a diamond. It has levelers, both horizontal and vertical. Its red, and both visible enough to see anytime , as well as see thru enough to see your target. And most of all it has plenty of open space in the middle so you can see your tracers.
I think I got it from Sketch, . If you tell me the shortcut to take a picture and how to post it here I'll be happy to do it.

Go to a hosting site (like photobucket), make an account. Upload your picture. It'll have a little code under it for posting on a BB. Copy and voila!
-
Forget the keys for in game. You can either post a small recording of it offline or whatever, or open up the recording in the film viewer, click prt scr/sysrq on your keyboard, and open up mspaint, photoshop, etc and save it as a new picture, and then post it here.
Donkey
Thanks if you do.
PS: It's not the p51 k-14 one or whatever right?

I am going to use these thanks!
Should I use the red background or black?
-
Historic on all planes but the IL-2 where I made one up in Photoshop using the default crosshair but with lines showing the ballistic arc of the cannons at 600m convergence and ticks for rockets at 1,6 and 800m it was a work of art then a hard drive crash ate it.

If I were able to save it to AVI I could grab a frame in one of my editing apps, upload it to a free picture server, and post it from there. I am familiar with the process as Im a video editor. However this AH film viewer crashes every time I try to save to AVI so I cant go that route, nor can I do you tube. The AH file compression wont open in any of my editors either. Here is the link to the free sights file. http://www.savefile.com/files/809847
Its "P51Dred BMP". If you want to send me your E-mail in a PM Donkey I could probably attache a copy of the sight that way. Before I was using LWRevil16b but this one is far better.
The sight is actually the least important aspect of good gunning from bombers. But I think its important to get a sight your comfortable with. This one is really not that different then the ones with just a dot in the middle.

On the radio the other day I heard someone say they had a sight they'd downloaded for use in the gun turrets on bombers, and that there was a mark specifically for the .50 cals at 1000 yards. This would be very handy. Anyone have a link for this site?

No but I know with this sight Im talking about the dot in the center, its actually more of a rectangle, if you lay the bottom of it over a 1,000 yrd fighter just high enough, you'll score hits with it. Even better with all the open space in the middle of the sight you'll be able to see the hits and/or your tracers. Which is important.
No doubt the sight your talking about is one of the ones with horizontal graduated levels in the middle that space vertically for set distances. The problem Ive found with them is that they are to dark and interfere with seeing the fighter. That, and they interfere with seeing both your hits and your tracers. I have found seeing your tracers at distance is just as important as seeing the con. Most of all if the fighter isn't coming in at a perfect "6" angle while level, which means you have to use a different lead to hit him.
This is the best Ive found for bomber guns. But, I guess its all individual preference. http://www.mediamax.com/rich46yo/Hosted/pictures/P51dred-2.bmp
