Title: Sport Science -The big hit
Post by: DREDIOCK on October 19, 2007, 03:56:42 PM
Anyone check this show out?

Basically they are taking a crash test dummy and are submitting it to the big hits from various sports using actual atheletes from the various sports to see how much force the players are taking.

They did a blindside hit from Joey Porter with the dummy taking the place of a QB.

Force of impact from a Joey Porter hit = 1160 pounds

which they say is about the same as being kicked by a bull

OUCH!

the hardest. was the body slam =400Gs

I can believe that but I would like to see what the show as the changes in the impact in football is from youth to middle school to high school to college ball and then to the professional level. I know everyone likes to see the big boys play but you would be surprised at the amount of force that some 80-100 pound kids can create when they hit other kids in pads. Then you figure out what it is like to have to design the equipment to deal with the impacts.
