After doing a search as to which tank to burn first in the FW190's and after having a chat with a squaddie,I can't seem to find the correct answer.
I thought the forward was to be burned first and my squaddie thought the aft tank.
Reading the forums I find that some say AFT first and others say Forward first.
Could someone please advise me on the correct tank burn??? THX:aok

Aft first.
Back in the day, iirc, the auto fuel tank selection burned the forward first then the aft but this was changed to Aft tanks first then forward tanks.

Auto fuel management has it right; Aft-Forward or Aux-Aft-Forward depending on model.

what i like to do is burn my aft tank before the drop tank if im going a long ways other than that i burn the dt until about its gone or drop as soon as i get to alt and speed, i like to cruise at 20k in the a8 hunting bombers, and i wont drop it if im just attackign bombers cause i dont think manuverability is such an issue.
the tal is real nice for this to burn the whole dt to get to alt go to cruise settigns and hang out forever.

Guess I didn't explain myself properly.
for best performance is it best to burn aft first or forward first.
I had heard that burning 1/2 to 3/4 of the forward tank helped with CoG and my squaddie said he was told to burn the aft tank first.
I've noticed on some planes burning wing tanks first seems to help.
So I was wondering if burning one or the other would make a difference.
Or maybe there isn't any advantage to be found and auto cycle of tanks is all thats needed???

Morfiend,
I've had lengthy discussions with 33vortex, one of my squaddies who only flies 190's. He prefers to burn the forward tank fist. NOT for handling but due to the fact that, on a 190D in particular, the forward tank is much more likely to be hit. He says there is a "slight" handling advantage to buring the aft tank first, but doesn't outweight the risk of damage.
In real life, on most planes, you'd burn aft first due to CG concerns. Outa CG aft can make most airplanes very dangerously unstable.

For the three camps leading up to this one I had 79 kills/18 deaths in the 190A-8; over 5/1 K/D.
Over the past three days I've turn/E fought 2 Spits, 2 F4U's, 1 Ki-84, 1 Hurri IIC and 1 P-51B never seperating farther than 1.5-2K. I'm 5 wins/2 losses in those fights but one of the losses was my own fault when I augered. I'm not saying everyone should try turnfighting in a 190 but I find it fun and challenging. I am saying...
What a POS that doesn't turn. <----- sarcasm

I think its a POS that can't turn too :).

I believe the best thing to do is to burn almost all the aft tank, but save a few minutes worth, then switch to the front tank.
Then you have fuel to get home when your forward tank is holed.
The plane is faster if the CG is forward & as a side effect it's more stable.
I think the A5 and A8 are not as bad as the Dora so I doubt you'll see the difference.
As for the anti-Fw comments I call "troll".
