Hey guys, I'm interested in joining in on the AvA and can't find any guidelines. I have read the unwritten rules and code of conduct and that is why I want to come in and get out of the MA stuff for a while.
I am assuming you don't just log in, look for a dar to jump in with and go.
Could someone set me straight on entering, joining a side, missions and such so I can share in on the fun.
Many thanks,
WWM

Hmmmmm
This is a tough one to answer because opinions vary.
My understanding of the AVA culture is the following
1) Don't HO on the initial merge
2) Don't gang (anything over 2 v 1 is overkill)
3) Don't vulch
4) Ask your countryman if he needs help vs a con before engaging
5) your adversary after an engagement
6) Be a gentleman and if you screw up and do any of the aforementioned admit it and try not to do it again.
7) If you encounter Dedalos, Storch, or Kong, just hit enter 3 times and save yourself the frustration :D
8) If you encounter me go get a beer, fly straight and level, and I'll eat a tree for ya :D

:D Already found out #7 with Dedalos...
I'll try a # 8 to go please
Thanks for the reply but I got that. That's why I want to come in.
What I was looking for is I guess , how is it run. Is it like an FSO, do you check in with the CO upon logging for orders etc.....
Sorry if it's a silly ? but I have looked around and not found anything and didn't want to just jump in and get a "what the *&^ are you doing over there"

To join the AvA community you have to give us each 14.95 :p
Dich pretty much hit the nail on the head. If you do all those you will have no problems flying in the AvA.

essentially the 'regulars' or the 'old guard' as I like to call them tend to gravitate towards what I've posted previously. I'm none of the above but I tend to be garrulous, loquacious, or chatty. Everybody is free to jump in, grab a ride, and take their chances.
I have to admit that getting clocked by Storch tonight got my blood pumping because he's a hot stick, somebody I hold in regard, and really wanted a second chance with. The phone interrupted that !@#$!$.
New people, score tards, etc, tend to fly the MA way until they either A) figure out they're ostracized, or B) don't find enough easy pickens to fly against.
I like the AVA because I know if I died it was MY fault 9 times out of 10 and not because 10 people saw me low and slow and did the minemineminemine routine.
But that's just me.

Oh yea I forgot about the texas tax Ill need 16.03 also.:aok
I like the AvA over MA because 90% of the time you know who your fighting without even asking just from how they move.

WWM, other than the historically-limited plane sets and the engagement restraints that most of us observe, the AvA is no different from the various MAs. Log in, check the roster, switch to the low side unless you have a strong preference otherwise, and find the fight. Usually you can ask, on Channel 200, where the fight is, and at what altitude, and people will give you accurate answers.
Glad to have you join us.

Thank you guys.
Don't care about my score, want a respectable fight to learn my mistakes without getitng ganged, don't like vulching or being vulched, don't HO (however there seems to be discrepencies on what a HO is) , if I'm 1v1 I don't want anyone to jump in. if I get killed I learn from it and get a new plane (they are free)
**Unless they are figured into the texas tax :p
Look forward to being in the community.:D

I have no personal animus towards anybody in this game. There are names I recognize and people I've talked to, with, on the board and privately. If I see them in an arena with me friend or foe I'm glad to see them. Even if its you ;)
