I played AH back in 2002 for the first time. Due to incompatibility issues with my crap gfx card, lack of funds hehe, etc.
Coming back I have noticed some drastic changes in AH2. And Im not just talking about game mechanics. That was expected. I'm more or less referring to the community.
Granted, I may have just come on during a bad time but, people seemed less friendly than I remember.
Everytime some group of guys took a base/town/etc, no "wtg ##" or anything. Just silence in country chat. No 's for landed kills, good fights, etc. This was in both LW arenas. It just felt, dead? No camaraderie at all. It kind of left me feeling disappointed.
Is this the norm or did I just happen upon a slow night? What I missed most about AH was the warm and support community. Is this no longer present?
-
Seems the same to me fella, everyone who shoots me down gets a salute, even if it was a pick, vulch etc..........(and there are many many many who shoot me down - I spend more time giving salutes than flying most nights..lol).
Could just have been a slow night fella, this is a warm place to be....oh, and welcome back!

While many things may have changed with an ever increasing and younger communtiy, this particular thing is defenitely not the norm.
-
Whew! Good thing :)
I have some of the fondest memories of this online community. More than any other I have been a part of.
Anyone by any chance remember the Blue Thunder squadron? I flew with them a number of years back by the callsign BTHayze :)
Thanks for the WB and hope to see you guys in the sky!
-
I haven't seemed to have that problem. I give and get
's almost every night from competitors. Likewise I seem to get and give WTG's almost every night from both countrymen and competitors.
I guess maybe you get what you give?

welcome back...i know BTflaps....same squad?
anyways...it has changed since i started playin. u can tell the peep's that have been playin long cuz of the way they fly. thats the biggest thing for me, too many ho'n ace pilots in the arena's anymore. i dont see the problem with the wtg's or <<>>'s, must be the country ur on.
-
Ohhh boy, if you think the community is bad now, just wait for summer vacation to come around again! :lol
I wasn't around in 2002 but here are some of the tings you will see in AH2 today - 20K BnZing temp's and TYPHs, massive gordes of la-7's, alt f4 joke everyday (mostly during the summer vacation), HO-Whiners, and a new kind of bombing LANCstuka.
These tgings aren't everyday things but are some of the more annoying things I find. :)
-
I don't see as many "WTG's" or "
" as I use to, nor do I give as many. In "the old days" there wasn't as much Hoin and ganging as there is now. I'm not going to one guy out of the 6 chasing me, or the HO tard blazing in with his cannons.
Friends and foes alike get and WTGs, and I see enough to give me hope that not ALL the honor is gone from the game :aok

I tend to not give as many "WTG's" as in the past, at times I think they are overdone. When you see the text buffer fill up for a 2 kill sortie, you know its more a popularity thing than a flying thing.
I'm more likely to shoot a or a "nice sortie" if I see someone land 5 or 6.
Also plane matters, la7's and spit 16's won't see many from me. But if you fly a Yak, a c.205, p47, you are more likely to get one.
Support diversity not mediocrity. Its really not that hard for most people to go out and land 2 with a spit 8/16, Nik, or La7. So I tend not to bother as much for those. Also partly depends on how busy I am.
What I do try to do is send a to anyone who was nice enough to die for my guns. Seriously, I really appreciate you doing that. A from me costs me nothing, and if it helps take some of the sting from your losing, well thats a bonus. If I miss you, or you don't see it, chances are I was too busy flying to get it out there.
Sorry get ya next time! Till then here's one from me
-
You must not be flying in the same arena as I am my friend... I give and get 's regularly and the WTG's are many for base captures. The time you fly could also be a factor. I usually fly aroung 4PM Pacific and get the bulk of North America guys flying.
I DO agree that alot of the younger players (yes I'm being polite and NOT calling them S......rs) and two week guys don't use the established etiquette... Give 'em time, they'll catch on.
Welcome back and watch your 6!:aok
-
I remember spanking the BT's around a bit as a JB back in the day :D
welcome back to the game. :aok
oh and on topic YES a ton has changed. I know the old community you speak of, I think it is dead and gone sadly.
You probably remember nights with 20+ MAW online, and other famous large squads, RJO missions, and things like that.
I haven't flown in a few months, but I haven't seen anything like those days in a few years it seems. It most definitely is a different world in the MA.
-
I fly nit, and I see wtg's and such all the time.
I will even wtg a 2 kill sortie if I don't know the name, but know he is a nit. My reasoning on that is, it may be a 2 weeker that needs the extra boost..
-
I have a good fight less than once a week these days. It's usually some old-timer who isn't scared to fight regardless of plane, alt, etc. They always get a <
> from me, and we might go back and forth on the highlights of the fight.
Part of the problem is also ch 200 related. Some vets don't tune Ch200 b/c of the BS that can inundate it. So unless you use the .salute playername command, they won't see your <> or GF!
The community has change IMHO and it's somewhat sad. There are fewer people I enjoy flying with, and fewer people I enjoy flying against.
-
The community is not the same as before. I noticed that too when i returned a year ago. When you do find many of those old sticks and learn to ignore the new elements its still very good though :) You just need more filters than you needed before. One gets used to it pretty fast, and I settled in pretty fast after my fairly long time away from the game.

JB73! I remember you :) You sent me into a frenzy of nostalgia.
Rook Joint Ops was awesome lol. Fun stuff.
Big squads I remember being were you guys, MAW, Arabian Knights, and a few others...
Kinda saddens me to see it gone :( But, change may not be a bad thing.
----
Yep Betty, same squad :) Frog, Diver, Hanzo/Page, Bear, few others I remember very well.
----
I have been changing countries around, trying to see where I like. But it just doesn't seem to be a cohesive unit. The occasional local channels are friendly, but.. people just seem to be out for the " Guy#58646543 has landed 4 kills in a Spit/LA/N1K".
I really miss organized missions, bomber escorts/intercepts, etc. Sure, I could participate in scenerios but... I enjoy it *every* night lol.
Maybe it is my time. I am home at 9:00PM EST Mon-Thurs due to work all day and college @ night. Perhaps the weekend will be different.
----
Thanks for all of the welcome back guys! :)
Hope to see yall from the cockpit of my 38 :)

Oh quick question....
What happened to night time? I used to love fighting in twilight hours.
Weather effects ever implemented? I remember wind but haven't noticed much of that, so hrm.

Wait until Saturday. Wind and clouds definately a factor in the scenario

Don,t forget the Tempest, f4-C, 262 and 163 dweebs!!
You know, the "other" planes alot of the high scoring guys fly.
Welcome back Boxcut!!
Its usually not so bad.
I see lots of and WTGs in Bishland and I,m sure its the same most of the time on the evil sides too!!
But for Gods sake, stay off of channel 200, it will sour your taste for the game.

Yeah, after reading/seeing some things on there heh, it was taken off of my chat list fast.
-
And Heaven forbid you get in a 1 on 1 with a vet and have a country men try and pick him and knock off one of his elevators. If you shoot him down you will be blessed with a PM that tells you why your not dead and eating your perked ride.

glad I could help you remember those times Hayze :aok
I have flown as "Mustaine" since oh 2+ years ago, but it's still me.
MAN have times changed lol. I'll admit I miss some of those huge missions too, the 50 stuka raid, RJO getting 2 resets in 45 minutes, and most of all the MINDANAO map :(
I'm going to try and fly again in the next few weeks maybe I'll see ya up.
-
This place is starting to remind me of the evening news...nothing but
the negative is emphasized. There is alot of positive stuff going on as
well..guess it's just not as noteworthy.

I'm just reminiscing on times that I remember very well. Those times were good. I'm not saying they aren't now, I can't judge that. I am just giving my insight as a returning player based on my initial impressions.
I'll definently keep an eye out for yah JB :) And everyone else as well!
-
The reason i "WTG" most all rooks i reconise........ maybe they'll feel like they belong,(rook) and become a faithful castle. Thats my hope anyway. ok, now hit me with "thats stupid".:D
-
the thing is though klink is that the game has changed so much that alot of us dont stay on one side, we change when we want...to where we want...my squad is one of them. we have been flyin bish for the last 8 months or longer because we fly with the TSM guys. but side loyalty doesnt matter anymore. IMHO i'm glad that its taken this shift because i always changed sides to go fly with friends on other sides and always got crap for it, everyone needs to understand...i have commitment issues....i belong to NO side. and I pay my AH bill so i'll fly where i want and when i want...hehe
-
Yes Latrobe, I probably would WTG that, simply because it is not THAT easy to land 6 & 7 kill sorties in any plane. To do so shows that you have done something right.
By the same token, I landed 4 in a seafire last tour, escaped out of a huge red horde to do so. And no one said a single word.

In the name of the Aces High II community, I want to apologize for that.

last night I went in alone against seven in the AvA, one being yourself toasth. after about three minutes of fighting your horde TK joined me, we landed six kills against woobiecanes and spitflits. not a single congratulatory response. the next sortie we went in right over your base TK had five in the bag when he ran out of fuel I landed nine. again not a single congratulatory response. not that I look for that in a fight I'm merely pointing out your hypocrasy.
carry on

its still the same.
Alot of good sticks, alot of good fights mixed in with a lot of dweebery, the inevitable shoot & scoot and or HO brigade and the occasional "zipcode".
So basically its about like its always been.
-
The Bishes seem like pretty cool peoples. I usually see quite a bit of 'congrats' goin around. When the Bishes take a base, you can pretty much expect a wall-of-'WTG!'-text from half the Bish Nation.

side switching...i do what i want. if you were not meant to change sides then they wouldn't give you the option.

Storch sir I had my hands quite full just trying to stay alive.
It has been a while since I've flown the AvA, I just did not have the time to spare.
Also in the future, if you want respect from me, try sharing some first.

I prefer inane disputes. respect in a game? = you need to get out more.

the Tempest's were more fun IMHO though.

i dont know....to me all the fights we had rocked! good times for sure:)

I'm not big on handing out WTGs for landing kills. Unless, that is, I know it wasn't vulching or cherry picking a furball.
I have seen guys getting a WTG for landing two kills in a Tempest.. Are you kidding? Stevie Wonder could accomplish that....
I also see far too much smack talk from guys who could not fight their way out of a nursing home ladies room with an M249.
Even guys in the same country seem not to know when it's time to shut their pie hole.
You gotta shake your head at the recent influx of self-appointed wunderkinds..

HEY! i take that offense to that remark about the temp! temp isnt an easy plane to fly, its easier than the tiff but its not easy .....alot of ppl give it a bad rep by BnZ'n in it, surprisingly its a great plane to furball in, and i can get it to turn pretty good.....
