I'm surprised this has not been mentioned. It took off with passengers...now will it land?
-
Airbus builds some fine quality ships, I'm sure it will do fine. The most comfortable ride I've had was in an Airbus, but to be fair< I had to PAY for the comfort! Smooth ride though....................... ...............:D
-
Yes, it landed in Sydney.
Crying towels for the "if it aint boeing i aint going" crowd were provided in the ladies' washroom at SIA airport. :lol

There was a nice 3 part show on the Discovery Channel just recently on the A380. Well worth watching.
-
It's not an airplane...it's a....SHIP!
WTG Airbus :aok
(BTW, my most comfortable AIRLINER ride was with an Airbus)
-
It wont be long till this boat takes a dive with all on board
Looks like a great big target..wonder hwo the Anti missle defenses are on it?
-
most airbus models are nothing more than european copies of older Boeing designs, albeit with the benifit of newer technologies. The A380 being unique from those. Good job for AB, those people are justifiably proud. They stepped out of the box (tripped more like it) and managed something truly grand.
But I doubt they will ever make money on it....some estimates are saying AB is already twenty billion euroes in the hole on the A380.
-
Competition is good, it forces other folks to get better. If Airbus, McDonnel-Douglas, Lockheed, Bombardier, Ilyushin, Tupolev, Yakoklev, SAAB, BAE, etc etc etc didn't exist or had never existed, we'd all be flying in in 707s at best.
If you're talking about the business of subsidy vs. capitalism in the Airbus vs. Boeing debate, that's fine. But spending all this time making silly statements about "that there airbus is gonna crash, hyuck hyuck" just looks... well, silly.

A lot of airplanes look like each other and it is not because they are copies.

-
ohhhh thats great line....
I could evade a missle with ease..You wanna go DA now? turdlinger
-
hmm do 747's come equiped with chaff/flares ...thats a big target also ...or did you forget that one ??????
Just co's it's a european aircraft dont mean it's any more likely to be targetted does it ??
-
the bigger the target..the more the 5th century dirty beard men want to kill it..
Liek the World Trade Center.....
If they have a choice...say 737 or a 380 airbus..whcih one is going to get more crosshairs on it.

the one they fighting a war against, or am i wrong here?

Well ... one DHL Airbus 300-something got hit by a missile over Baghdad some time ago. It survived. These huge planes are not easy to shoot down simply because of their size.
-
Oh yaa..never mind..euros are there good friends..I forgot that1
-
MANPADs are the biggest threat, as far as I know, because they're portable, relatively cheap, and available. The most common ones are SA-7s and Stingers, both IR seeking.
With the big planes, the engines would be what would be hit. The bigger the plane, the further apart they are, so less likely to damage other engines when they're hit. Most of these planes have good engine-out performance, even at gross.
To shoot one down would take a big coordinated strike on takeoff. It's been tried a few times in Iraq, no luck so far, even w/ twin engine jets.
So sure, it's possible, but there's nothing magical about the 380 that makes it a missile magnet.
-
The airliners that have got hit so far have survived only through luck. If their hydraylic system gets hit they're controllable only by throttle.
The DHL was real close to lawndarting before the crew learned to manouver through throttle.
-
You misinterpret skill for luck. Those DHL pilots performed a great feat of airmanship, and while luck was a factor it was not the biggest. The DHL Airbus was also on fire during the entire time, but the wing didn't fold. Modern airliners are completely flyable with only engine control; Airbus and Boeing software now even help the pilots in such situations. These planes are built tough (Boeings too).
