Why?
Why does EVERYTHING have to somehow come back to Bush and Iraq.
This one is a stretch if I've ever seen one:

GARAMENDI: Of course it’s public relations. The action’s taking place by the hard-working firefighters, the men and women and the police that are out there on the line and the community that’s pulling together to support each other, that’s where the action is taking place. I know—okay, President Bush comes out, we’ll be polite. But frankly, that’s not the solution. How about sending our National Guard back from Iraq? So that we have those people available here to help us?
Bush is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
This nutjob would have probably been the first to slam Bush for NOT coming out to see the damages had he decided not to.
And to imply that the fire fighting efforts are being hampered because of the fact that 1500 Calif. National Guard personnel are currently in Iraq is absurd!
This guy is a nutjob, plain and simple.

Would have helped the salamander's argument if there WERE many Guard troops in Iraq--(one might think the Lt. Governor would KNOW that) as it is, a whopping 2% of CA's guard troops are there. PErhaps had they not spent $6 BILLION of state tax money on embryonic stem cell research, they could have a couple (50...) more planes and more firefighters
