Skuzzy,
I've been getting rubber bullets and HCL's every 20 to 30 minutes these last few days. I did a traceroute and here's the results:

HOLY PACKET LOSS BATMAN
you have some major packet loss. thats one to many for me to track down
-
Start with your ISP as that is where the packet loss starts. All bets are off after that.
-
My ISP routes through att.net too, and I have been having some major issues myself in the last week. Cox.net has been on and off as well.
-
BH, I work for Cox Communications and I can try to help with hop 4. Beyond that, skuzzys advice stands. Pm me your MAC address and the city you live in.
-
Looks like hop #6 is a gateway from Cox to AT&T. Not sure though.
Wonder if a router flap is happening there. Cox recently buy another ISP or sell of part of its network? Appreciate you pitching in REP0MAN.

That could be Skuzzy but the plot is only 45 seconds worth. It's tough to make a case to the Engineers in Central US with little info. With his MAC, I can at least see what I get on the way to him from the CMTS and DNS servers in Oklahoma City. I need to see where hop 5 is as well. Also, we need to get BadHorse pinging the correct game server.
Scca, don't rely on the uptime of http://www.Cox.net to be your judge of the Cox Network. That web page is usually very slow. I normally ping the CMTS or Proxy/DNS in your local ring. That will usually give you a good look at the local ring. If you need the address, I can grab it for you whilw in the office. Once you know everything is cool inside your local ring, you can start to ping servers like HTC and pray that you don't see Level3 in your TR.
Skuzzy, no problem sir, glad to help. I do the same on DSLReports.com. If you ever need any Cox updates or info, don't hesitate to Email me.

cc...... I pinged some of the troublesome hops and didn't have any issues. Zero loss. I'll ping your modem when I get back in the office this afternoon.

What I really meant (I am not smart that way) is the name in the dns box ended with cox.net and that was where my issue was.

Thanks..
Most of the time I have zero issues. I have to say its a pretty stable ISP for the most part. There have been a few nights where I have had issues, and cox appeared to be the problem, but no sooner than I was about to say something, the issues went away.
Thanks again,
Bill

Cox does maintenance to the network between the hours or 12:00am and 3:00am. Often times, the maintenance technicians will do node sweeps until 8pm or so (possibly later in some systems). This could cause small sessions of packet loss and/or complete outage depending on their findings. They try their best to NOT take service legs (from the Node) down but it can happen.
If you ever do have a lasting problem, let me know.
