RIP sir,
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071101/ap_on_re_us/obit_tibbets
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Paul Tibbets, who piloted the B-29 bomber Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, died Thursday. He was 92 and insisted almost to his dying day that he had no regrets about the mission and slept just fine at night.
Tibbets died at his Columbus home, said Gerry Newhouse, a longtime friend. He suffered from a variety of health problems and had been in decline for two months....
there's more to the story I just didn't quote it all here.

Sir!
JB, thanks for sharing this. It seems the "Old Crowd" keeps getting thinner with each passing month. :(
Our prayers to the Tibbets

The guy did his job. One hell of a job it was too.

Very sad news. The group that Paul Tibbets originally organized, the 509th Composite Group, is now the 509th Bomb Wing operating B2 bombers out of Whiteman AFB. In keeping with the family tradition of service, his grandson, Lt. Col. Paul Tibbets is currently a squadron commander in the wing.

hope they drop a big one on some bad folks for their pops!!

Thanks for posting, I was just looking to see if anyone had posted about this.

I had the pleasure of meeting him about 10 years ago in Columbus. He seemed like a good guy.
-
He was the most effective bomber pilot in the times.

Gen Tibbets, sir!
Fair skies and tail winds forever. There are many alive now that owe their lives to his mission and that of the second mission.

Can you imagine being that poor guy?
He's lived into an era where those who won the war are mostly forgotten in favor of weeping for the enemy. At the Smithsonian, of all places too.
Kudos to him to maintaining his courage and speaking proudly of the role he served.
