Title: Collisions
Post by: Rich46yo on November 05, 2007, 08:58:02 AM
Im trying to understand how collisions work in this game. The way I read AH rules if you collide from the rear then you are not judged as having "collided". A few days ago a P-51 ran into all 3 of my bombers from the rear and he was credited with 3 kills even tho he didn't even earn one. Yesterday a fighter ran right into the rear of one bomber and the fighter was also credited with a kill while I lost a bomber.

Its not like I can run into someone backwards while flying away from them at 290 mph. What gives here?

And personally? If I was in a fighter going 450 mph and ran into a bombers rear end?? I would comm an apology.

But...I was raised in an era where Politeness was the norm.

There are two realities in AH.  What you see on your front end, and what the other player sees on their front end.  Those realities are close, but not exactly the same.  Plane positions will vary slightly between two front ends.

If your front end detects a collusion with another plane, you get an orange message, and you take the appropriate damage.  If the other player detects a collusion with you on their front end, you get a white message, and they take the appropriate damage.

It does not matter how it happens, if somebodies front end detects another plane occupying the same virtual space as their plane, a collusion happens for them.

I don't think it matters at all where you collide.

If your computer sees yourself, or someone else hit you, you will take damage.  Same goes for the other guy.

It gets a bit weird, when one computer sees a collision and the other does not...causing one person to suffer damage and the other (because there computer did not see a collision) takes no damage.  This is the cause for most complaints, but when looking at other options, there is no way to make it better.  In one scenario, if both take damage whether or not both computers see a collision, you may be getting collision messages at d400.  On the other side, if no collisions allowed, then you could fly straight through the enemy, shooting him from the inside out, and then fly off as if nothing unusual happened.

It's all due to transfering information between yourself and AH.  In that situation, I would think your computer saw a collision, however, to the other guy was just close and shooting.  If he landed any pings, he gets the kill, If not, maybe proxies.

Hopefully this clears up any confusion  on why collisions happen<>;)(http://www.babble.com/CS/photos/jan2007/images/3470/275x286.aspx)

Section 14, paragraph 12, subsection b.  I think he misinterpreted the meaning of "front end".

What?  Didn't you get a copy with your subscription Donzo?

A misinterpretation of "front end"?

Now that is an interesting twist on the age old collision threads (refreshing actually).  :D

And no, I did not get a copy of the rules with my subscription.

Terminology.

Front End = Client = Your Computer
Back End = Server = Host Computer

Good catch on the front and back of airplanes.

HiTech

Yea, HiTech using that firefox 2 with a built in spell checker has been a real fun killer :furious , but it doesn't tell him when he uses the wrong homonym (eg. pier for peer, affect for effect), so there is still hope :)

Same basic angle external, tangle's view from my front end moment of impact.

How would you feel taking damage looking at your film and seeing tangles front end view, hmmmmmm?

I know I'd be pretty POed.

Bronk

Edit: This also works nicely for the "none should take damage" people.

Yea I should be able to put the nose of my ac through another.:furious :furious :furious

Hence why I close my eyes if my plane is compressing on a dive to kill bombers!

Well today i was on a rolling scissor with a enemy and we were jockying so hard for position that we ended up smacking right into each other.

I literally saw his fusulage smack my plane in PLAIN Sight of me. However he went poof, and i took absolutly no damage.

I know the damage model is a lil tricky, but in all realism both planes should end up out of commission. because if the enemy plane gets damage from your plane then in comparrison yours should take the apropriate damage.

No.

Getting it would mean they would have to give up some pre-conceived notions.

Worse, it would mean one less thing to whine about.

Can't have fun playing a game if you can't whine about it.

BigBOBCH, dude,

Look at Bronk's post.

Your reality is the top pic (your front end).

Mine is the bottom one (my front end).

Now, look at the pics.  If I flew into you at 400 mph as is depicted in the bottom picture (my front end), would it be fair that you should go boom too when in your reality (top pic) I did not hit you?

I think the word filter for these boards should be set to automatically replace the word "Collision" and any variant of it with the words "Butt Sex".

I think if two planes have "Butt Sex" then both should take damage

Sounds about right...
